Why should you do more video in your business?

 Well… here’s a few reasons:

  1.  It’s basically a free marketing strategy. Yes, you could pay a videographer or video editor to produce or complete your videos but you sure don’t have to in most cases.
  2. YouTube is one of the largest search engines on the Internet now and you need to be there.
  3. It’s faster to explain something complicated or complex on your website or with customers.
  4. It’s easier and faster to get to the point of your message so you can keep the attention of your visitors, followers, subscribers or customers.
  5. Oh and…. 85% of the US internet audience watches videos online.

I find that more people will watch and respond to my videos on Facebook for example than read or respond to most of my business-oriented posts.

What kinds of videos can you do?

Here’s a list of what I do and/or am planning to do more of:

  • Tips regarding something in your business for social media posts, YouTube, your blog and emails
  • Sales pitches for landing pages, sales pages, emails and more
  • Tutorial videos to explain something more in depth on your website or wherever
  • Curriculum videos for a paid program
  • Facebook live videos – these would be different than the tips or other videos above that you might also post on Facebook or related sites. These will get the most views since they lie right on Facebook:
    • Now you have Live video available on YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram too
  • Speaker videos – record everything you do, virtual or in person
    • Videos of you speaking on stage at any event
    • Speaker Sizzle Reel
    • Speaker Introduction Video
    • Speaker Media Reel
  • Testimonial videos – of you giving kudos to someone else or a program, etc. or of your customers giving testimonials for you

Now, I know what you’re saying… That’s great and all, Katrina, but I just don’t know how to get started or what to do. I’m not that techy and I really don’t know what to say.

3 Steps to Using Video Marketing to Grow Your Business:

  1.  Just press record – you have to just start by trying it out. Open the webcam on your computer for starters and just press record and start messing around with your intro and a few key points you might want to make. Then you can graduate to recording something more specific and/or doing Facebook Live videos. The key is to just get started.
  2. Repurpose your videos everywhere – this means make sure you make the most of all the content you record. You can transcribe your videos for a written blog post, email, ebook or article. You can post your videos on YouTube, your website, your blog, link inside an email, post to your social sites and more.
  3. Monetize your videos – this is when you start getting serious about making sure that your videos drive traffic to your website, blog, landing pages, free gift opt in pages, sales pages, calls with you and even click to buy links directly from the video itself. There is a whole lot to know on how to maximize your videos including using keyword research, positioning, script writing, SEO and more.

I hope you still aren’t planning on waiting to do more video if you’re already recording them now or waiting to just get started. I’d hate to see you get left in the Internet Dust by your competitors!

Is your Email Marketing getting you the level of response you expected?   Alright… so I’m gonna get a little REAL with you here AGAIN… have you ever felt like “no one is listening” and wonder “why am I doing this?”

I’m talking about sending emails that is…and I suppose it could be other marketing strategies you’re doing too that may not be working too??

You see, when I started my business back in 2002 (yes, it’s been a long time), email marketing was pretty much the second best way to get a hold of someone. (phone or in person was always the best) It was so new and people loved it, they loved getting emails, we looked forward to it.

Now though, man you never even know if your emails are getting through the barriers! (I don’t want to use the names just in case it blocks me for saying the words!)  Too many bad people ruined it for the rest of us.

It’s upsetting because email sure is an easy way to get your message out to a LOT of people, right?

So… I get it when my clients tell me that they don’t see response when they send an email, therefore, why bother?

I know many of you have to be feeling the same disappointment when it comes to your emailing too?

So, what do we do about it?

Not send emails?

That isn’t the answer.

The thing that keeps me going is the group of you who ARE OPENING and reading them, those who do respond every now and again to let me know you’re there. THANK YOU!

If no one else cares to stop and read what I send then that’s too bad for them, I send great content!

One thing I know is true is that we can never get too busy in our lives or businesses that we stop learning new stuff.

I’m a constant learner. In fact, I’m learning a brand new program all about monetizing your YouTube Channel and videos right now!  Yep, and I plan to share all about what I’ve learned from others who are very successful at it, at my next event in November.

I also plan to share some new trends with social media marketing, especially Facebook and a few new secrets about online giveaways, contests, and summits as well as how the event market is shifting too.

You never know what you’ll get at my events, honestly, it’s where I share my best tips and strategies. That and with my VIP clients or Live Big Mastermind, that’s where I go deep on training some of the best marketing and business strategies that are working for myself and my peers and mentors “right now”.

Because things change all the time. You constantly have to be on top of the newest thing. Not that we want you to go after “bright shiny objects”, that’s not what I’m saying…. but I’m saying that if you don’t take some time out to learn a few new things about how to effectively grow and monetize your business then you’re going to get left behind.

And… that also doesn’t mean you have to put in more hours working every week. No! I say no to overtime too!

There is a way to work less and make more…believe me though, I’m STILL working on this myself as I write this to you. I don’t have it all figured out either because it keeps changing and I keep changing…. there’s always more to learn, do, and implement. I can tell you that I’m having the time of my life doing it all. I Love what I do and you should too but I really have to work on what I consciously add to my plate each year.

For the majority of us entrepreneurs, it’s “slow and steady wins the race”. I get that a few entrepreneurs out there are really good at marketing and like to make it all “look easy” but that literally infuriates me to no end. It’s NOT easy growing your own business. It can be easy to learn what to do and do it but there’s a LOT to do.
16 years into my business and I am still focused on Revenue Generating Activities you guys…. every single week. I avoid making phone calls too, just like probably most of you. But you know what? It works. Why am I sharing this with you? To hold myself accountable!!

The difference is that I’ve since been able to build a really good base of revenue coming in each month so I’m not so stressed about money or making the next sale. It’s never easy though, I invest a lot more now. This month alone I invested $3500 in one opportunity that has turned into added expenses of up to close to another $3000 just to “see if this will pay off”. I’m relatively sure it will though, I just have to “TRUST”.

Last month I ran my book launch and spent some money there and on buying books. i also designed a new marketing brochure for speaking gigs, both to the tune of almost another $1000.

Money just flies out the door now (on really productive and important things) and I’m thankful that I have it to invest so I can get to my NEXT LEVEL. But you have to keep investing.. that’s the point here. Whether it’s your time, your money or your faith, it’s all investing in the betterment of YOU.

I really didn’t mean for this to turn into a big long rant or article; I honestly just got frustrated with my email open rates and wanted to express my thoughts and relate to what YOU might be thinking as well. 😉

So where do we go from here for consistent Revenue Generating Activities?

Well, I’d love to share everything I know with you about it all plus what all I’ve learned this year and last! The only efficient way for me to do that though is to get you all into a conference room and talk about it over 3 days.

Why do you think I keep adding more events to my calendar every year? It’s because I have more to share and I want to help you. I hate to see you struggle like you are. I want to see you be able to take YOUR business to the NEXT LEVEL and FAST.

Whether you can actually attend my November Jumpstart Your Biz in a Weekend event or not or if you can come in March to the Love & Money LIVE! event…. maybe you can, maybe you can’t. Maybe you can’t see yourself flying across the country or even to the next state and staying in a hotel? Maybe you just don’t get what you could possibly learn and retain in 3 days with me that would make it worth your while? Maybe your circumstances are such that you have to take care of a loved one and you just can’t escape for your own “pleasure” right now?

One of my clients who came a little over a year ago to one of my events wanted to come so bad. (She wasn’t a client yet) In fact we messaged back and forth many times on Facebook about it and how she didn’t have the money to come. I forget if it was finally a phone conversation or just the fact that I was spending so much time trying to support her in her decision that she decided she could ask a family member for a loan to come out (she lived on the East Coast).

She was scared to death I remember. AND she was a HUGE INTROVERT to boot. Boy I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her at the event (and I did…. of course in a very loving way). Because she was so motivated to make that money back that she borrowed, when I asked attendees to share their “Easy Yes Offers(TM)” and taught them how, she stood right up and made an offer! She literally walked away with well over $1,000 in her pocket at that event; enough to pay back her loan. But what she got out of it more than just money was CONFIDENCE. And that is HUGE.

Now she’s taking on clients left and right and she’s even leaping out into uncomfortable waters once again by writing a very intimate story about her past in a book.. just so she can help other mom entrepreneurs like her. I’m so excited for her!

So, when people ask me “what am I going to get by coming to your event, Katrina?”. I just have to shake my head because it’s so hard to say. Although I’m a brilliant marketer, I’m not as good as some other experts out there who pull in 400 attendees into their events.

My events average around 50 people. But you know what? That’s the new trend these days! It’s about smaller, more intimate groups, retreats and places where people can really get the attention, the coaching, the insight, the breakthroughs and the connection that they’re longing for.

I mean are you really longing for sitting in a room with 300-1000 people? Do you really believe that you’ll walk away with tangible strategies and systems that will work for YOU personally? Sure it’s possible, it happens. But if you have to choose only ONE or maybe TWO events to travel to every year, which would you prefer? What do you think will really catapult you to YOUR NEXT LEVEL QUICKEST?

Whether you’ve already started recording video and using videos in the marketing of your business or not, there are a few key things you may want to make sure you’re doing in order to maximize your exposure and time.

Video is highly searchable by the search engines online and it’s becoming one of the hottest ways for someone to experience you. It’s not going away so you want to start embracing it!

The top 4 reasons you want to start doing more video if you aren’t yet are:

  1. People get to experience you on a more personal basis without you having to be there with them.
  2. You can share more of your content that attracts prospects anytime you want and it can literally be seen by anyone anywhere in the world!
  3. Having videos gives you more of an edge over your competition and establishes you more of an expert in your industry.
  4. You can develop paid trainings people can buy online while you sleep!

How to shoot videos:

  1. Buy a webcam or flip camera or use the one on your desktop or laptop to get started.
  2. Get in a room with good lighting and an aesthetically pleasing background
  3. Put on extra makeup for the camera
  4. Have someone hold the camera or set it up with stand if using a portable one
  5. Turn on record and talk – its that simple!
  6. Download to your computer or save
  7. Open an account on YouTube.com
  8. Upload your videos, weekly if possible to YouTube – adding keywords and a written description of what you’re talking about with link to a web page on your website to find out more
  9. Make sure your YouTube account is set up to automatically feed into your social networks using an RSS feed so it gets repurposed in multiple places

What NOT to worry about when doing videos:

  • When you’re just starting out, don’t pay a lot of money to get videos done, get your groove first for free then pay for a professional video on your website when “you’re ready” to really shine and you have a good call to action and script.
  • What you look like or sound like – no one is as critical as you will be.
  • Buying expensive audio or video equipment. Do what I suggest above for creating your videos for free first. Then when you get your groove or have more of a concrete strategy you can buy upgraded equipment.

Quick outline of what to say in promotional videos:

  • Quick introduction – your name, title, business and website url plus what you’re going to share (i.e. quick biz tip or similar)
  • Content or tip – share something useful, helpful or interesting in a minute or two if you can
  • Close with a call to action – what do you want them to do? Go sign up on your website for information, call you, register for an event or teleclass?

Don’t worry about what you look like. Be personal, memorable and vulnerable. Encourage interaction with your audience and you will build followers. You can do this!

Why do you want to use more freebies and gifts in your marketing?

Because typically it will…

  • Attract new prospects to your list or your website
  • Get prospects interacting with your content, your website, yourself so they can trust and connect with you faster
  • Allow them to experience you on a deeper level to decide if they want to buy from you or take the next step

Here are a few examples of WHAT you could create:

  1. Free Report – talk about or teach the top 3 tips on something, 3 keys, 5 biggest mistakes, anything how-to oriented, all of them are good.
  2. Free Audio – like the one on this page, notice that I am giving you access to a free audio training I did a few years ago and you can do this too. RECORD EVERYTHING YOU DO! You never know when you can use it again, gift it or bonus it in a package. Same types of topics as above.
  3. Free Video or Video Series – Same as above but do it via video. Get yourself on camera to really connect deeper with the audience and your followers, video will make the biggest impact because they can see you. You can use a combination of powerpoint slides, photos, flip charts, music if you want, testimonials and of course yourself; I do recommend putting YOU on the video though for sure at some point.
  4. Free Drawing – for some of my clients such as photographers, salons and spas, network marketers and a few other types of businesses you could run a drawing each month only for new subscribers to your newsletter. They can have the chance to win a gift certificate, free product, special package of some sort or cash even. But make sure it’s NOT just the chance to get a discount on whatever it is that you’re selling, that’s not a “freebie”.
  5. Free Service – for my salon and spa clients often times we offer a free facial or free massage. If you’re in charge of booking the business and providing the service this works, if not and you have your stations rented of course this won’t work unless each therapist or stylist agrees. You just pick one winner each month from new subscribers.

I recorded this call a few years ago and it was part of a training I did to paying clients in one of my previous membership programs. So it’s in depth training content, not just a fluffy teleclass audio where I go into much more detail about all of these ideas and so much more!

I hope you’ve caught the last couple articles in this series, even if you haven’t started doing video yet in your business – for marketing, your website, tips, engaging clients and more. This seriously is something you don’t want to ignore anymore. And if you’re already doing videos in your business, you may catch a few tips here that can enhance your videos, capture you more viewers and convert more paying customers!

In my business and marketing coaching business, I hear a lot of excuses as to why someone isn’t or doesn’t want to do video yet in their business. I do. I hear it all!

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a way to get around those obstacles or fears that you may have and learn how to maximize what you’re doing on video to get the biggest bang for your buck so-to-speak.

The 3 biggest obstacles or excuses that I hear entrepreneurs make about recording or promoting videos:

  1. Mindset – you don’t think you look or sound good on video (article 1 of 3)
  2. Strategy – you aren’t sure what to say, share or promote on video (article 2 of 3)
  3. Systems – you aren’t that tech savvy or aren’t sure what software or technology to use to record your video and get it out there

In this article, the two preceding it, I share a bunch of tips for combating each one of these so hopefully this helps you get started using video now!

Tips for getting comfortable using the technology is always a big deterrent to getting started doing videos in business. If you want to learn how to get the right stuff without spending a mint and what else to do with your videos once they are created and uploaded, try these suggestions:

  • Look on your computer or chosen electronic device first for:
      1. Quicktime Player, iMovie or some other recording software – I love and use Quicktime Player on my Mac desktop all the time, it’s very easy to use. Download it for free for Mac or PC.
      2. YouTube easy upload buttons, apps or plug-ins – I actually just upload my videos directly from my desktop to YouTube first, then I can easily grab the embed code from there to add it to my website or some other webpage if necessary. You can also record directly on YouTube, no download required.
      3. iMovie also allows you to edit your videos – but frankly it’s a bit techy even for me so I just don’t edit my videos, I do them until they’re “good enough”.
      4. Photoshop will allow you to add graphics or words and links to the top of your video or create an image to go with your video with clickable links but this software is a bit expensive and more designer friendly.
  • Don’t buy anything too expensive right out of the gate for device, camera, webcam, software, program or microphone. Learn what you’re doing, saying and sending first; get comfortable doing videos, come up with a regular strategy and schedule and THEN if you want, invest more in your technology in my opinion. You may just need a nice, reasonably priced microphone, that’s it other than the program to record it, which should be free or included on your computer.
  • Practice with what you have on hand first – your webcam, your smartphone, tablet or laptop, just get comfortable doing video. No one even has to see the first few if you don’t want to but don’t wait for perfect, just get info, tips and yourself out there!
  • Good lighting and sound quality are the most important things say most video viewers. They typically don’t stick around to watch if they can’t hear you, your sound is too low or too garbled. Then a secret to lighting is to bring in a little end table light, take off the lampshade and stick in front of you but behind the camera, or have a window in front of you or some other light source but not behind you. And tilting the camera a bit so it’s looking down at you is better than looking up at you.
  • Try recording with the speaker on your phone or computer first to see if it’s good enough and clear. If not, you can pick up inexpensive microphones that plug into your desktop or laptop for better sound quality, I like the Logitech brand myself.
  • Save all your videos to your computer as well as putting them on YouTube if appropriate.
  • YouTube is for sharing with the world obviously but even sharing tips and content from your articles, ezines, products, events, books and more is good because it will just be snippets of that content that then you can share how to buy or invest in from there.
  • Write a good video title and description on your YouTube page and include a URL at the top of the description so it’s the first thing people see when viewing your videos.
  • Add as many tags as YouTube will let you upon uploading, include your main keywords, your name, business name and topic. Use close to the same tags on each video you upload so more of your videos pull up on the sidebar of each page.
  • Share your videos on social sites too, put it everywhere, no one watches everywhere.
  • Repurpose your video in your email newsletter, post on your blog or video page of your website then write an article about it or transcribe your video and use the written version of it as content too for emails, tweets, posts and more!

Remember, your promotional videos only have to be 2-3 minutes unless they are training videos or videos for regular clients. Longer videos are ok for some people who really are interested in the content but not typically for new people just being introduced to you.

The key is to just get started. Record one and send it out to a few clients or friends that you trust to review it and give you feedback.Perfection is NOT the best strategy here or you may never get anything done and out.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a way to get around those obstacles or fears that you may have and learn how to maximize what you’re doing on video to get the biggest bang for your buck so-to-speak.

The 3 biggest obstacles or excuses that I hear entrepreneurs make about recording or promoting videos:

  1. Mindset – you don’t think you look or sound good on video
  2. Strategy – you aren’t sure what to say, share or promote on video
  3. Systems – you aren’t that tech savvy or aren’t sure what software or technology to use to record your video and get it out there

In this article and the following 2 articles, I will share a bunch of tips for combatting each one of these so hopefully this helps you get started using video now!

Tips to Combat the Mindset Resistance – you don’t think you look or sound good on video. If you want to make yourself look or feel better when recording video, try these suggestions:

  • Your Appearance – Do your hair like you would for a night out on the town. Double up on or darken your makeup application so it’s pretty heavy, light makeup hardly shows up at all on video, trust me, it won’t look like you’re Tammy Fay Baker. Use Visine for your eyes if they tend to be red or tired. Focus on under eye makeup too if you tend to have dark circles, use white or light under eye makeup.
  • Your Outfit – Make sure it’s not too busy of a pattern you’re wearing or it will detract from your face. If you’re newer to shooting video, try just shooting from the chest up but if you do choose to stand, watch for slimming outfits or black bottoms and a colored shirt. Black and white shirts tend not to be the best option. Try to accent yourself with fun jewelry that pops if you want to make more of a statement. And scarves hide wrinkled necks if you are concerned about that.
  • Your Surroundings – Your background is important, make sure the props, pictures, walls, artwork, furniture in the frame or in the background are suitable for public viewing. People could judge you on your surroundings for example if you have laundry on the floor or a messy desk, etc. It’s also very strategic to place something that brands your business, yourself or one of your products, books or programs in the back or side of you too.

It’s time to evolve your marketing plan and strategy, especially if you haven’t updated it in a while or if you have no real strategy at all.

Being an entrepreneur in this day and age there is NO getting around being online, being visible, credible, knowledgable and informative. Let’s face it, if you’re not already embracing most social media platforms for whatever reason, it’s time to start paying attention and get interactive online. But it’s more than just “being” on social media, there is a lot more to pay attention to and this can help.

I recently returned from a pretty big social media and digital marketing conference and there were a few key things that I gleaned from this event that I’m going to implement more or pay attention to when updating my marketing strategy (right now, not later, but now) and I thought you may want to know what these updated trends are as well. And the reason I’ve dated them here is because this stuff changes fast so make sure YOU are getting updates like this from your own team or mentors regularly (or connect with me and get mine).

7 Updated Online Marketing Trends – July 2014

  1. Facebook business pages no longer have good reach, they are now set up for more of a pay-to-reach type of opportunity. It used to be, as recent as October 2013, that your posts would get a reach of 10-12% of your total fans. Now, in April of 2014, only 6 months later, Facebook has changed our pages and we’re only seeing an average of 1-2% reach. Why is that? Facebook obviously wanted us to enjoy having this opportunity to reach our fans and followers but now they want to get paid for that. You can’t blame them but WE, the entrepreneur, have to evolve where we’re focusing our efforts in order to continue reaching enough prospects, new leads and customers online. Remember, you want to use Facebook as just a marketing tool, posting and commenting isn’t always what works on these platforms, it’s the actual one-to-one connecting that works, make sure you have a strategy for doing that effectively on social sites to enough people each month.
  2. Almost 5 billion pieces of content are shared daily on Facebook and 500 million tweets are shared each day on Twitter. How interactive are YOU on these sites and others?
  3. 84% of people you’re marketing to trust recommendations from people they know which means you want to build a loyal following with people who will share and refer you. You may also consider that any paid advertising you do could work less due to this fact as well. What are YOU doing to educate and keep in touch with your database each month?
  4. 100 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute. How much of that is video you produced and are sharing? This is probably one of THE most CRITICAL marketing strategies you want to figure out how to add effectively to your plan this year.
  5. Podcasts are becoming so popular that some of the new car makers are installing podcast players and stations into car radios along side the AM/FM stations. 39 million Americans have listened to a podcast in the last month.

    Mobile viewers make up more than 40% of all YouTube global watch-time, more than 1 billion videos are uploaded per day. Is YOUR site mobile friendly where someone doesn’t actually have to move the site around to see what’s on it, really mobile friendly not just visible via mobile? There’s a difference. And are you on YouTube with videos and podcasts where your prospects can listen and watch you on the go?

  7. Buyers are 70% of the way to a buying decision BEFORE they agree to talk with you which means you must have a very impressive, credible, functional and action-oriented website and overall online presence. Do you?

Most of all however, for all types of marketing, the goal should be to get them into your mailing and email database so that you can continue to market to them. You’ve got to build relationships with them over time; that’s the most effective way to market to anyone. People will do business with people they like, trust and connect with so make it easy for them to do business with you and refer their friends to you too!
