The biggest lesson I’ve learned during covid

The biggest lesson I learned during this covid shut down “era”, is now what I feel it’s like since it’s lasting so long… besides just trusting that “it will all work out” which has been my motto my whole journey as an entrepreneur… The biggest lesson I’ve learned thus far is that as an entrepreneur, you can LITERALLY make money doing anything, anytime, from anywhere.

I’m seeing people make shifts in their businesses big time, some have just had to, but when you fully BELIEVE that anything is possible, and you BRAINSTORM with others who have BIG IDEAS and probably think BIGGER than you, it can result in some HUGE OPPORTUNITIES that you may not have thought out on your own.

I’m seeing it with ALL TYPES of businesses also.

You can’t say “well that virtual stuff doesn’t work with my type of business”. I will bet you $1000 I can find a way HOW YOU can make money and/or do things differently – you just may not WANT to do them or FEEL COMFORTABLE doing them!

That’s your choice but you could be holding yourself back with your negative thoughts and doubts. During times like this you have to LET GO of what you think has to be and EMBRACE the evolution of you and your business. It’s Simple. Yet YOU may not see what to do on your own, you most likely will need someone to SHOW YOU the WHAT and the HOW.

Don’t get me wrong, I KNOW that we all don’t do our businesses JUST to make money… of course. We want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and we want to HELP PEOPLE. But we’re not going to be able to help many people if we don’t FOCUS ON OURSELVES FIRST. Make sure you are doing whatever it takes to take care of YOU and your family first, then everyone else please. And in order to help a LOT more people, we need to make a LOT more money so we can do BIGGER THINGS and aren’t “MONEY STRESSED” in the process.

First Steps to Setting Up Your Business’ Foundation for a Smooth-Running Consistent $$Making Machine  

  1. Determine your ideal target audience – whether you have one, two or three different target markets, figure out who they most logical ones are who would be interested in your products, services, programs and more and why they should care 
  1. Figure out your overall marketing message – the transformation you provide and the problems you solve and what type of “wording” will attract the target audience plus what’s in it for them (this wording and messaging will go on all your marketing materials and website)

  1. Free gifts and downloads – you want to have one, two or even multiple freebies on your website and in general to make your target market want to learn more and get more info. What can you develop that hits their “hot buttons” and gives them a glimpse or a “taste” of what they’re seeking as far as advice, content, training, resources and more.
  1. Videos – you’ll use videos for all sorts of things, what you want to do in the beginning stages of your business is create videos that have people “experience you”, get to know you, learn from you, and for interaction on your website and social sites.
  1. Team and Tools – there will be many things you’ll start to implement or need to do that you can delegate or outsource, the key is figuring out WHICH things to start delegating first and how to make it so you can afford to delegate them. There are also many techy tools and resources that will help you be more efficient, productive and profitable, don’t be afraid to embrace tools to support you, be open to learning new things and new ways.

5 steps to success in your life

 

I am a huge proponent of using formulas to do things I’ve never done before. Let me give you an example, I don’t consider myself to be a great cook; just a competent one. I really enjoy good food and I view dining and the presentation of food as an art. But here’s the deal, I don’t have to be an artist to make a good meal. I can simply follow a recipe. If I don’t deviate from the recipe, chances are that I’ll make something that is pretty tasty. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe I’m a gourmet chef. But I can make a pretty wicked lobster bisque!

The recipe example I just gave can work with other things as well. There are plenty of examples for success in life that are solid. Some of you may have read my book, The Ten Commandments of Peak Performance. In that book, I focus on ten key areas that can significantly increase your levels of performance in life. In a sense, it is also a recipe for increasing your levels of performance so that you are operating at peak efficiency.

I think success works the same way. You can increase your chances for success substantially if you follow a recipe that others have used and that is proven to work. I’ve studied and researched the success factors of people in many different walks of life.

Here are five steps that you can take that I think are very powerful.

Step 1: Follow Your Passions
We live in one of the greatest of times. I truly believe that. Now more than ever, people have a greater chance of living a life fulfilled…whatever that means to you.

I’m a big believer in formulas. It used to be that you had to figure out what the formula for success and happiness was. If you didn’t have good role models or of you grew up in an environment that was not positive, encouraging, or growth oriented, this made things even more difficult.

Fortunately, the internet brings you information, knowledge, encouragement, and stories of success from all over the world. If you have a passion or a direction you want to pursue, chances are great that there is someone else out there that has the same thoughts. That someone has made it and they can help you make it as well!

So…not knowing what to do is a poor choice for not following your passion. Even if you can’t find examples of exactly what you want in life, you are sure to find things that are similar. From that you can extrapolate. Sure, it’s going to take some work. But everything is possible in life if you have the desire and passion.

The conventional wisdom of finding a job, slugging away for 20, 30, or 40 years, and hanging onto that job at all costs just doesn’t serve people very well. In fact, in most cases it never did. Research shows that 52.3% of people are dissatisfied with their careers or vocation.
Do what you love, and you’ll find that your life will work out. You will be fulfilled. You will make enough to pay the bills. You will make a difference to yourself, to your family, and to many others.

Step 2: Immerse Your Mind in Good Stuff
Napoleon Hill said “you become what you think about.” The book of proverbs says something similar; “For as he thinks in is heart, so is he.”

A study recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology confirms that you are deeply shaped by the books you read. In fact, just as watching television can chip away at your contentment, the books you read can be negative influences in your life. What you read can reflect the negative aspects of your personality, or it can serve to elevate your thoughts and turn you towards that which is positive.

Watch videos, read blogs, read books, listen to podcasts. Immerse yourself with positive things. Be very conscious and intentional about what you focus your attention on and who and what you spend your time with. What goes into your eyes and ears goes into your brain and into your heart – and it becomes who you are.

Step 3: Associate with Positive People.
Remember when you were growing up and Mom and Dad wanted to know who you were hanging around with? The reason was simple yet very powerful. If you associate with negative people or people that are engaged in activities that are immoral or illegal, you’ll tend to adopt the same thinking and behavior that they have.

It doesn’t matter if you think you are a good person. Just associating with the wrong type of individual can have a negatively profound effect on your thinking…and possibly your behavior. It is important to take stock on who is around you. If you take an honest assessment, you’ll find that not everyone is going to be the model of what you want to achieve in life. This is where some tough decision making must occur.

You may need to disassociate yourself from people that don’t serve you well or are dragging you down in life. This may be painful. You might get judged. You might suffer repercussions. This may be difficult because these people may be close friends or even family. In the case of the latter, you might wish to start by simply limiting your exposure to those people as much as you can.

When you associate with people that are like minded, that strive for the same type of betterment that you do, you’ll find that you will have very powerful allies. They will affect your success and happiness in life on both a conscious and a subconscious level. I call this very powerful action “The Power of Association.” Try it…it can be very effective.

Step 4: Have Gratitude
Successful people have gratitude. They are thankful for all that they have including all experiences; good and bad. They realize one of the keys to success is to “happily succeed rather than try to succeed to be happy.”

Dealing with challenging situations is just a matter of framing them the right way. Challenges are not meant to be seen as hurdles in the road, rather part of the road. It is the challenges in life that shape who we become because that is where the growth occurs.

Focusing on the things you don’t have in life serve no good purpose. There is a reason why one of the Ten Commandments in the bible says “You must not be envious of your neighbor’s goods.” Because it will do nothing but make you unhappy. You’ll be focusing on what you don’t have instead of what you do have.

Living in a state of lack is a huge disservice to yourself. You only see the negative that comes from not having the things you want in life. A better focus is one of abundance. Being grateful for what you have, even when you have to go through pain and failure, allows you to live in an abundant state.

A great exercise to institute the habit of gratitude is to write three things you are grateful for in the morning and in the evening. You should write these things down as opposed to just thinking about them. Writing things out takes them from the abstract into reality. It sets off a chain of commands in the neurons in the brain that lend itself to experiencing something in an entirely different way than just thinking about it.

Step 5: Get a Mentor or Coach
Too many people, the idea of getting a coach to help take them where they have never gone before is not a consideration. Not because they are against it. But because they just don’t understand the power and the value that coaching can bring. Many people think of athletics when it comes to coaches. And, that’s probably a good example of what a coach can do. An athlete who has a coach is more likely to:

  • Recovers more quickly and effectively from a bad performance
  • Learns more from a bad, and in fact every, performance
  • Develops more effectively during practices
  • Learns their talents and strengths more quickly and effectively
  • Creates a strategy to leverage their strengths to their advantage
  • Achieves more during that season

Putting athletic performance aside…wouldn’t it be great if you could do all of those things as well in your life? Of course it would! Hiring a coach to help take you places you have never been before is a very good investment.

If you are reticent to spend money on a coach you should ask yourself two questions: 1) What is the cost of failure? and 2) What is the cost of wasted time because you don’t know the best way to get what you want to achieve?

A good coach can listen to what it is you say and provide sold advice. They can be a confidential sounding board; a trusted advisor who can ask you provocative questions that help you uncover what your gifts, strengths, values, principles, true dreams, goals, and aspirations. A good coach can take all that information and help put you on the path to making those dreams become reality. Now…what’s that worth?

Like any recipe, formula, or set of instructions, these five steps are a guide. You have room for interpretation of how to execute them, but none should be discounted. They are all just as important as flour or wheat is to baking bread. If you leave those ingredients out the end result will be less than desirable.

Follow these five guidelines and you’ll begin to see a real differences as to the level of success in your life!

Today’s Tip is about Accountability. Do you find it Hard To Keep Yourself Accountable?

Today I want to share a couple of tips about Accountability and Getting Stuff Done. That seems to be a challenge for several of my clients. I’m finding they need to be able to reach me via text, email or a call once or a week or every other week to make sure they are on track with what they should to be doing during the week or month. Sometimes they need reassurance of what their daily tasks should be to reach their goals.

Video Tip Accountabilityx 800It’s easy to get knocked off of your game. You get demotivated or something happens to distract you from your regular routine. Once your energy shifts, it’s hard to get back on track to be productive.

Here are a couple of tips I recommend:

  1. Use a Google Calendar to stay on track and to stay productive. I think it’s better than an ICal because ICAL is only accessible on a Mac. If you are someplace other than your home or office (for example, in a hotel and you have access only to a p.c.), you can’t check your calendar if it’s on ICAL using a p.c. And if you have an Android phone, you can always check your calendar on your phone. If you have a gmail account, you also have an account with other Google products and the Google Calendar is one of them. Google Calendar is so good because you can time block appointments, tasks, and other items on your calendar with color codes. I use it exclusively for business and personal appointments, tasks, events. My assistants can see it and my husband can see it. It’s easy to drag and drop items on the calendar and change things around.
  2. Get a Buddy – someone in your life or your work who is a motivated entrepreneur. Find someone with a task manager mentality. You can have a coach do this for you but you can also have a Buddy. Make sure you meet at least once a week for a quick check in call or email to help each other stay on track with everything you have on your plate. You can share each other’s successes and acknowledge each other. But if a buddy is in the same position as you are in your business, they may not be able to give you sound advice. That’s where a mentor like me comes in. I like being that accountability person for my clients and I’m very accessible in most of my programs including 1 on 1’s. I know that’s type of support is what many business owners need; especially you are just starting out or in the first 3-5 years of your business. You need to know EXACTLY what to do in your business. It’s difficult to listen to an audio that’s targeted to a large audience and convert that advice to what YOU need to do.

Today’s Tip is about Time Management – Entrepreneurs MUST be good at it to Grow Their Business

I recently gave everyone a tip about accountability where I talked a little about Google Calendar and time blocking, but I’m finding there are many entrepreneurs who could do a better job at keeping track of their time. Here’s what I mean by that.

I’ve made several appointments with business owners; a few were my clients but most of them were not my clients, where the other person missed our appointment! Why? Because they hadn’t noted it correctly in whatever system they are using or they simply failed to make a note of the appointment.

This is a problem that can lead to a huge problem for you, the entrepreneur. If you are continuing to miss appointments, not getting things done, or not keeping track of your time, these issues can keep you from moving forward in growing your business.

I want to encourage you to do whatever you need to so you can be sure to get the appointments you make noted correctly on your calendar–so you can keep them. Slow down long enough to note your appointments as you make them into your calendar. And, a great way to better manage what you are doing is to review your calendar each evening so you will know what your priorities are when you wake up. Being able to get going on what’s most important each morning is critical to your success.

Today’s Tip is to help you GET OUT of your FUNK!

Many entrepreneurs have a tendency to “get into our own heads” a little too much or sometimes we let things negatively affect us. This is something I call “getting into a funk”. We sometimes get discouraged or frustrated or unhappy, hurt, or sad. Maybe it was something someone said, did, or didn’t do that put you in a funk for a while, a day, or even longer.

screenshot - get out of your funkIf you had your entire day planned and you let something get to you, it could affect your productivity. Getting into a funk could result in your not getting the things done that you needed to do. One thing I recommend is to have someone to talk to. And if you are in a funk and you can’t shake it, contact them. If you don’t have a coach like me yet, try a buddy. Your buddy should be an entrepreneur as well and be someone who understands your pain and frustration. I don’t recommend calling someone who is working in a job because they won’t understand the challenge you are dealing with. Talk to someone who gets you; someone who can be your cheerleader.

So here’s what you should do. If you are in a funk for 5 minutes and haven’t pulled yourself out of it, I want you to call your buddy – someone you can trust, someone who loves and supports you and let them help you pull out of that funk.

Your mindset – your beliefs, ideas and attitude — has a huge impact on the level of success you can achieve. Think of your mindset like your lens of possibility. If your lens is cloudy and distorted, you can’t see all the possibilities easily.

a cash giftIf you are a leader, visionary or entrepreneur type, having a healthy money mindset is essential to carrying out your mission in the most effective, and profitable way. When you can see possibilities clearly you make better decisions, which obviously will lead to greater profits and impact.

But here’s the crazy part. Most people really don’t know that their mindset has become a bottleneck to their next level of success. Because that way of thinking is their NORM it’s accepted – and even worse – you just work harder to be successful in spite of your lack mindset.

If you want to be able to elevate your success you’ll need to upgrade your money mindset pronto!

Here’s seven signs your money mindset needs an upgrade:

  1. You hold back from investing in your business growth because you can’t afford it.
  2. You alternate between a big payday and scrambling for sales.
  3. You routinely make “just enough” to cover all your bills.
  4. On some level you see wealthy people as “bad” or you are worried you will be “like them.”
  5. The fear of what you will have to give up or change to be successful a recurring concern.
  6. You are still doing it all yourself because you can’t financially justify paying others to help you.
  7. You are busy – a lot – but your effort doesn’t translate to more money in the bank.

Suspect you might have at least ONE indicator? Don’t worry, you and 95% of the human population! But the more indicators on this list you have the more likely you are to be secretly pushing away the very thing you deeply desire — more financial freedom.

Here’s what to do next.

  1. Decide that you will thrive in your life and business.

Before you do anything you must decide that you want to thrive. Make a commitment to do the inner work that will allow you to be more effective in your actions, choices and results.

  1. Determine if there is a success barrier derailing you from doing what would really work.

Now it’s time to determine what’s causing you to short circuit your success. Typically one of three success barriers are at play – Fear, Internal Conflict or Sabotaging Stories. These barriers have been in place for a really long time (they are almost always operating at the subconscious level) so you might want to get help from a professional.

  1. Learn how to rewire your money mindset.

By rewiring your money mindset you eliminate the erroneous thought patterns that cloud your choices. Rewiring can be as simple as training your mind to think more constructive thoughts. For some, you’ll need to go deeper and recode a really old belief system that has become a negative anchor.
