Do you need to jumpstart your business in a hurry to finish off strong or reach your goals for this year? How about a plan for next year or plan for what you’re going to do to get your business up and running if you’re just starting?

Regardless if you’re just starting out in business or a seasoned professional…there are a few things you could do to Jumpstart where you are in your business right now and get a big CASH FLOW PUSH.

Don’t forget however, you always want to plan at the very minimum once a year.   Most business owners choose December or January to start planning but it really can be done anytime throughout the year and you can be checking in and tweaking your plan all year long as well.

For immediate cash flow, I recommend trying any or all of the following:

  • Send an email to your current clients, previous clients and everyone in your database (that you have permission to email)
      • Offer for a complimentary check up call or session. This can be a shortened version of what you normally get paid to do or it can be in the format of an audit of sorts – for their business, their health or some other part of whatever you help them with.
      • Offer a paid special package, deal or offer. This should be something that you don’t normally sell or at a price that’s much lower to get them to “try you out” or you can keep the regular price possibly and throw in a lot of valuable bonuses.
      • Offer a paid group webinar or teleseminar (or a series) that starts soon. I’m sure you can teach something or offer something or do open coaching or Q&A about some topic that you have expertise in, that they want to hear about. Keep this at a very low price so you can pack the calls or lines. Then from there, make sure you have a sell up to a higher priced offering since you will most likely have people who want to take it further.
      • Offer a live workshop if you have a lot of local contacts. This can be a couple hours or half or full day. I don’t recommend adding a longer event quickly and without a lot more marketing time but a shorter, less expensive workshop could be a good option. Then make sure you have a more expensive sell up offering to offer those people that day.
  • Call through your database to everyone you have a phone number for (this is why it’s so important to collect phone numbers too because email is definitely NOT the most reliable way to connect with your customers.) and offer the same sorts of things as listed above.
  • Get Networking! A week or two ago I wrote an article on the 6 Steps to Effective Networking, you can read it here if you missed it but networking and meeting and talking with people face to face is the fastest path to cash. BUT you do have to listen for what people need and then make an offer to help them with one of your programs, products or services. Don’t rely on follow up, try to make the sale or close an appointment that day. Follow up for sure, but definitely ask in person.
  • Follow up with the dozens or hundreds of people you already made a new connection with from a recent event or with your friends and followers on social media. There’s nothing like getting a phone call to strengthen that relationship whether it started online or off. Leave detailed messages so people call you back and then take it to a phone call to see if or how you can help each other.

These are some of the best tips I teach my business coaching clients. We all need to do these things for cash flow, myself included. You are no different I’m sure so if you need that jumpstart….you’ve got to take a little initiative.

This is a question I get asked a lot, “how do you decide what format to do for your group program, event or other paid leveraged training?”

In my last article I shared the first four of 10 options and things you may want to consider when deciding which types of business models to develop. There are a lot that do not sell well and others that sell easily but many people aren’t that familiar with. So what do you do if you’re trying to add another revenue stream to your business or attempting to stop working so hard just working one-on-one?

Make sure you read Part 1 of this article located on this site first, then read this one is my suggestion or you’ll miss certain things to consider.

Here are the other six of 10 options and things to consider when structuring your next leveraged program, product, service or event in case you haven’t thought them all through:

    • One-on-One or All Group?
      • If you’re new to doing group programs and offerings then you might feel like it’s going to be hard to deliver enough value to a group since you’ve only worked previously in one-on-one situations. Consider for the first time out, giving one or two one-on-one sessions with you then as a bonus. You’ll feel more comfortable, you’ll drive up the actual value of the program too in the process.
    • Pay in Full or Payment Plans?
      • Always offer a payment plan but don’t make it seem like it’s a monthly fee for a set program or they may think they can cancel in the middle. Also it’s a good idea to offer extra incentives for people to pay in full so that you can collect the entire fees up front and you don’t have to act as the bank. But I see more payment plan payments than pay in full clients so I do highly recommend offering them.
    • Memberships
      • Typically you see membership options in place for associations or organizations you may belong to professionally or personally. There are also entrepreneurs who offer a membership as a way to get residual income. It’s a never-ending recurring payment plan for a service that is ongoing. Usually you’ll see this in a range of pricing from $9.99/mo to $99/mo. Every once in a while you’ll see a membership that is a few hundreds of dollars each month but that will usually include a coaching option or event, retreat, etc. The problem with most memberships is that it’s not that easy to fill one or keep people in it for very long so you will always be marketing to fill this type of program. I still like this as a business model but I don’t recommend clients focus on this as their main source of income if it’s at a lower fee.
    • Masterminds
      • A true mastermind from the Napolean Hill days means a group and collaboration of minds. I’ve been a part of a few different mastermind programs in my journey as an entrepreneur, some high priced, low access, some high access, low price and some no cost and flakey. In my mind, a good format for a mastermind is a well-priced annual program with some training and high access. The reason people join a mastermind is to brainstorm with others, get good advice about a subject, topic or from a specific person and to be a part of a community in the process so they have people to hold them accountable. It’s hard to do all that for free or low cost. I believe entrepreneurs who charge very little for their time and call their program a mastermind or don’t charge at all, are undervaluing themselves.
    • Live Events or VIP Days?
      • I could write a book about live events and how to do them, plan for them, market them and price them. I’ve learned a lot and in the beginning I learned a $100,000 lesson that I don’t want you to have to learn as well. All I can say is that when you want to do more than a 1-4 hour seminar, and stretch yourself to a 2, 3 or 4 day event or retreat that you recruit a mentor who’s done it before and can tell you what to do and not to do. VIP days however are easy peasy. Pick a price, what you want to charge for a day with you either in person or virtually is fine, and post it on your website and start talking about it. You’ll never sell a VIP day if you don’t have one to offer right?
    • Licensing or Certification?
      • There is a fine line between licensing and certification programs. I am definitely not the expert on these types of leveraged offerings however what I do know is this…if you have a specific process or system that you teach now to your clients that could be taught by others and those others could start their own business teaching your system or process or teach it under you, then you may want to look into these. There is a bit of legwork to do to prepare to sell your content in this way but it could pay off tremendously with the right plan.

Now that you have structured and developed your new leveraged program, product or service what’s the best way to sell it you may ask?

Great question and the answer is any and every way that you can.

You may think that if you write a stellar sales page for the program and post it on your website that it will sell like hotcakes but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. You have to market that page, your program and if it costs more than $500 to invest in the program or offering then you most likely will have to have a phone conversation with each prospect before they’ll be willing to invest in it.

You can sell it from speaking gigs, the stage, teleclasses, webinars, one-on-one consultations, phone call follow up, video and more! Know that it could take a lot more people than you think to talk with in order to sell them, especially if what you’re offering costs more than $2000.

This is a question I get asked a lot, “how do you decide what format to do for your group program, event or other paid leveraged training?”

After all, there are so many options right? You may have seen some or even been a part of others. Some you may like as an attendee, others you may not have appreciated the format or structure of however.

What I’d first like to remind you of is NOT to make decisions for what you’ll provide or offer your prospects and clients based on what YOU like or don’t like. We don’t want to do that in our marketing decisions or the development of our offerings.

Instead, we want to design programs, leveraged offerings and events in a way that our ideal client would want to experience them. Your ideal client may have a different learning style than you.

Here are the first 4 of 10 options and things to consider when structuring your next leveraged program, product, service or event in case you haven’t thought them all through:

  • Online or In Person?
    • If you want to hold an event and you’ve never had one before, I urge you to get some help doing one in person because there are a lot of things you can do wrong the first time out and a lot of money you could spend on it that isn’t necessary if you’re not careful or you don’t know what you don’t know. I won’t discourage you from doing a live training, workshop or retreat however I’d recommend doing a virtual or over the phone/online group training FIRST to get the hang of it, the marketing and see how it sells.
  • Interactive or Training?
    • Depending on your ideal clients and prospects, some may need or want to have at least some sort of access to you during the process. You may want to consider at least offering some type of open Q&A time or online question/answer opportunity. I know my clients need to be able to talk with me about the things they’re doing in their business, it’s just faster than trying to figure it out on their own or just taking general direction and training so I offer both on typically all of my group trainings.
  • Stop/Start, Specific Dates or Ongoing?
    • This is a huge thing to decide before you launch a new program, will it be a month-to-month type membership fee and program where someone can jump into it anytime or will it have a set start and stop date where they’ll miss out on content if they miss a call or meeting? It’s important to decide this early on in your promotion period so you know how far out to start selling. If you can sell it anytime, then you have nothing to worry about but if you want it to start on a particular date then you need to give yourself enough time to market it effectively to get the number of people you want.
  • Resources, Forum, Q&A?
    • What other things do you include in your program? As I mentioned before, the learning style is important to consider here, if someone is a more introverted person, they may be ok going through content on their own but if not, you may want to include a place online where they can communicate with you and other participants like in a community forum. Keep in mind that you don’t have control over anything you do or post on Facebook, so it’s not the best option to use for your paid program communities but for now, it’s still a good option.

Can you believe that on the day Jason and I were so excited for him to finally be done with his radiation and chemo appointments (yesterday)….that immediately following his last treatment, he was in so much pain they rushed him to the ER and found he had blood clots in his lungs! Excuse my language here but What The Frig! 

We are so disappointed mind you that this stupid cancer journey is not yet behind us. I know it will never be behind us with all the regular appointments you have to do following and for the rest of your life but geez already, give him a break.

So, yes, that’s what I’m dealing with this week. So cancel the networking events, cancel my trip to LA next week, it’s more important that I’m here with him. It’s just so disappointing and frustrating. I’m hoping I don’t have to postpone my free webinar I’m giving tomorrow bright and early too as I feel like I’m coming down with a cold. I’m going to see what I feel like when I wake up but if you’ve registered for that, make sure you check your email before 9 am PST! Here’s the page to register however if you haven’t yet done so, it’s going to be good whether I do ittomorrow OR next week, trust me.

Don’t get sucked in to someone telling you that you should do it this way or that way and having that be the ONLY way you make money or grow your business. ONE way doesn’t work for the majority trust me.

 

I wanted to share a few of my “working remotely” resources and tips – this is a picture of me working at one of Jason’s treatments in the cancer center this week. It’s freezing in there, sweats are in order even though its 100 degrees out!

Working Remotely Resources:

  1. Logmein.com – I love this resource because it allows me to access my desktop from anywhere and any computer. I realize many of you work from your laptop and hence when you travel you take your laptop and your whole business and files with you, that’s great. But for those of you who have a desktop computer at your home/office (I have a big giant Mac), you can’t take that with you when you travel OR in case you have to go back and forth to the hospital or somewhere else and work on a daily basis, it’s nice to be able to access your files from anywhere. I bring my laptop along but then I don’t have to double up all my files or move too much over to my laptop and it stays pretty secure without my entire business on it. It’s like $79/year I believe so not that expensive. 
    • Also as a division of Logmein. they offer a screen share software called join.me. I use this now for my webinars, like the one I’m doing tomorrow. It’s not a “perfect” system for doing webinars but I don’t do that many at this time so it’s good enough. Plus I can use it with clients to show them how to do stuff on social media or their websites, etc. It’s $19/mo.
  2. Carbonite.com – This is the remote data backup system that I use on my desktop to protect my files. I highly recommend you get an online backup system because let’s face it, you won’t manually back up your files as much as you hope to so it’s better to be protected. And for like $59/year it’s a super good deal. It runs while I’m sleeping too so no down time. Here’s the site to go check it out.
  3. Filezilla.com – This is an FTP free software that I use to upload files to my website so that I can just use a link for someone to be able to access them. If you want to have someone be able to download or view a PDF or listen to an MP3 file for example as a freebie you may have offered or as part of a paid product or program, you will most likely want to upload that file to your website so it can be linked. The days of attaching files to an email are long gone, especially if that file is many Megabites large which MP3 files are.
  4. WordPress.org – The .org is different than the .com apparently, I learned this from my website techy team. The .org templates allow you a lot more flexibility, functionality and user friendly layouts with opt in capabilities and so much more. Don’t get sucked in to the free templates, invest in your website, it’s actually YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MARKETING TOOL besides yourself! What I love about my wordpress websites is that I can login from anywhere and update a page or add a post, it’s amazing. 
    • Did you know that I have an entire Website and Techy Services Department in my Company that you can utilize? It’s for that jumpstart you need with your own site or the new site you need but aren’t sure who to have build it for you. Need to make a few business shifts possibly?

One thing I see that is pretty common with the women business owners that I work with is that they don’t always feed their own needs and desires first. I believe this is hurting your business if this is you.

I’ve been guilty of this too at times, no one is perfect. But these days I’m relatively aware of watching out for this on a weekly basis and I urge you to be as well. Because what I know is that if you’re not completely happy in your personal life right now or sometimes, it will affect the success and running of your business.

In addition to feeding your own soul, you also need to be prepared – mentally and physically, for starting, growing and running an efficient, consistent, moneymaking business.

Other things that affect your success and even your profits are:

  • Having people in your life that don’t fully support you – they could discourage you, drain your valuable entrepreneurial energy or worse, bad mouth you and what you’re striving to accomplish.
  • Doubting yourself, your abilities, how much you’re worth, and thinking you’re not good enough – these limiting beliefs most likely stem from a childhood experience but you can shift them now, wherever you are in your life if you decide to.
  • Lack of clarity around what you’re doing from the big picture all the way down to the nitty gritty details of what you need to be doing every single day in your business.
  • Not having a clear plan for your business start up, its growth, generating consistent revenue, expansion ideas, team development and/or management and even time management so you don’t end up doing it all yourself.
  • Lack of accountability – entrepreneurs are typically the creative types and most of us need someone other than ourselves to stay on top of us, our weekly activities, project management and even completion of projects so we stay on task.
  • The know-how – just because you decided to become an entrepreneur or start selling products and services of some kind doesn’t mean you know HOW to do that and HOW to be successful and most importantly profitable. Get the training and insight you need before it’s too late and you have to go back and get a JOB!

So, where do you need to make some shifts? In your personal life, the business or with your own headtrash? Try to evaluate yourself, really sit with these ideas and points and see if something could improve. See if you need to have a conversation with a loved one. See if you need to get together a better plan.

Maybe it’s time to shift!

After all, as entrepreneurs, we always need to be open to evolution, especially evolution of ourselves.

Which types of business shifts do you need?

  • A better support system
  • Increased confidence to charge what you’re worth and get it
  • Clarity around what you’re selling and to whom
  • Focused action plan or marketing plann to bring in the money
  • Accountability plan to stay on track of tasks and the marketing
  • More training around being a more productive and profitable entrepreneur
  • Other?

Don’t undervalue what you really need, list out what’s missing and see where you can make a shift.

Why do you want to use more freebies and gifts in your marketing?

Because typically it will…

  • Attract new prospects to your list or your website
  • Get prospects interacting with your content, your website, yourself so they can trust and connect with you faster
  • Allow them to experience you on a deeper level to decide if they want to buy from you or take the next step

Here are a few examples of WHAT you could create:

  1. Free Report – talk about or teach the top 3 tips on something, 3 keys, 5 biggest mistakes, anything how-to oriented, all of them are good.
  2. Free Audio – like the one on this page, notice that I am giving you access to a free audio training I did a few years ago and you can do this too. RECORD EVERYTHING YOU DO! You never know when you can use it again, gift it or bonus it in a package. Same types of topics as above.
  3. Free Video or Video Series – Same as above but do it via video. Get yourself on camera to really connect deeper with the audience and your followers, video will make the biggest impact because they can see you. You can use a combination of powerpoint slides, photos, flip charts, music if you want, testimonials and of course yourself; I do recommend putting YOU on the video though for sure at some point.
  4. Free Drawing – for some of my clients such as photographers, salons and spas, network marketers and a few other types of businesses you could run a drawing each month only for new subscribers to your newsletter. They can have the chance to win a gift certificate, free product, special package of some sort or cash even. But make sure it’s NOT just the chance to get a discount on whatever it is that you’re selling, that’s not a “freebie”.
  5. Free Service – for my salon and spa clients often times we offer a free facial or free massage. If you’re in charge of booking the business and providing the service this works, if not and you have your stations rented of course this won’t work unless each therapist or stylist agrees. You just pick one winner each month from new subscribers.
