One of the biggest things that stops entrepreneurs from seeing more success and profits in your business is the lack of time management. It’s not easy to figure out how to prioritize your to do’s, tasks and time in order to get what needs to be done, done and in a timely manner.
It’s also not easy to figure out always what to do in your marketing in order to see the best return on investment, right?
I get it, these are things I have to work on pretty early on with all my clients so they don’t waste more time and money.
It’s important to do things “in order of importance” for your goals and your business. That means, if your goal is to really generate income for yourself right now then you must focus on revenue generating activities pretty much 100% of the time. So, whatever will bring in more leads, build your list, drive people to phone calls with you, drive to your functional website to buy or bring in referrals.
Here are 4 steps to take to better prioritize your time:
Strategize – First you want to strategize on what ARE the most important tasks or activities for you to be doing. Ask a coach if you aren’t sure or you’ll waste more time and money I promise you.
Calendarize – Get a really good calendar system to plot out your to dos. I love Google Calendar, you can color coordinate all your to dos, easily move them around and even have your assistant or team see what you’re doing or schedule things for you for more efficiency.
Systematize – Learn what tasks can be turned into a system, or pulled out of your head and written down. I love to develop templates for various things such as follow up emails, new connection messages for social media, templates for reaching out for speaking gigs and so much more!
Realize – Now that you have more systems and templates, realize what tasks and things can be delegated to an assistant. I can almost promise you that if you delegate the right tasks (sooner than later), especially revenue producing tasks, that you will see bigger profits faster.
P.P.S. Ready to jumpstart your business in a BIG WAY? You probably need to be doing a LOT more marketing and sales – online and offline. I recommend you check out what I do at my 3 day live training twice a year. The next event is in November, we’re in pre-launch so rates are the lowest when you sign up now at: www.LiveBigEvents.com.
In my business, I am constantly redefining myself, my services and my products in order to stay ahead of or at least keep up with the industry of marketing. If I don’t bring fresh ideas and material to my clients regularly, then someone else will.
Most entrepreneurs are not taking the time to work “on” your business, therefore you tend to struggle and stress out “in” it. Often times saying “I’m too busy” yet what you may be doing isn’t being productive.
As a small business, you have to wear many hats but your sales and marketing hat is the single-most important hat you wear. How much time are you spending wearing that hat?
Here are 3 action steps you can take to work ON your business more so you can be more productive and make more money:
Schedule 1 day each month as a “Creative” Day – a day you will do nothing but sit and write down all the ideas that come to mind about how you can update or increase your business, who you know that you can work with, how you will promote the products and services you offer, what else you want to do or add to your website, what is the next big thing you want to create or launch?
Schedule another day each month as an “Implementation” Day – a day you will do nothing but put those ideas into action – updating the text on your websites, writing and distributing press releases or email promotions, planning a workshop, developing marketing materials, reaching out to joint venture partners, etc.
Schedule weekly time to work “ON” your business – typically I recommend a minimum of 2-10 hours each week to spend on marketing, sales, follow up calls, email marketing, strategizing and delegating. This time is in addition to your in-person networking and your customer appointments. If you’re not very busy now then spend more like 60% of your work-week on these revenue-generating tasks.
Here are a few Revenue Generating Tasks to Spend Time On:
