Do you want to get out of Overwhelm?  Who doesn’t?

Yes, sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed too, but currently it’s in a good way. I have several fun projects on the horizon. So now I’m just trying to prioritize since I can’t do them all at once.

I recently attended a beach retreat with 34 other entrepreneurs and I got really sick… from exhaustion. Why? I had been traveling too much and I have huge plans for 2018 already that I’ve been focusing on. What I realized at that beach retreat was that I needed to STOP, breathe and figure out how to do less.

Soon after the beach retreat, I hired a new in office, local personal assistant to take a LOT of things off my plate. Whew! I cancelled two events – one this month and one in December that I originally thought I REALLY “needed” to attend but realized that I really don’t.

I also changed my plans on what I would launch starting this November. It’s so hard to keep up the pace I have been and still be here for my clients, my family and myself.
By stepping back and looking at my BIG PICTURE, I realized that what I need to double my business is already inside me!

I needed to take my own advice! PRIORITIZE – that’s what is necessary to getting me where I need to be “IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE” and I just need to stay focused.

Having an assistant and regular team meetings will keep me focused. You may not have that kind of a team just yet and that’s ok but who’s going to help YOU stay focused much less help you DETERMINE YOUR “ORDER OF IMPORTANCE”.

My experience is that you may not know what you don’t know and therefore may not see it exactly clear as to what and how YOU should prioritize to do this for yourself. Am I right?
Many of my mastermind clients and 1on1 clients are feeling overwhelmed right now too. One thing I think that I’m really good at is helping them FOCUS and PRIORITIZE on their immediate next steps so it helps take away the OVERWHELM! (for now, don’t get me wrong, it comes back which is why they hire me on an ongoing basis).

There are a few suggestions that I give to my clients that I want to share with you today. I hope you find these helpful.

    • Remember your BIG PICTURE VISION – is what’s on your plate now and what you’re spending time on now going to help get you to what you truly want your business to look like?
    • If you need to generate money and cash flow right now then – is what you are doing every single day lead generating, moneymaking activities that lead possible people to buying your products, programs and services?
    • Are you talking with people 1on1? This leads to more sales, referrals, speaking gigs and more opportunities. Don’t be shy, reach out and just call people.
    • Say NO to things that won’t serve you, even if you already committed, you can back out of some things and no one will die or think you’re a horrible person.
    • Take care of your personal needs! Get enough sleep, I know that for me, if I don’t get my 7-8 hours a night I drag through the day and am less productive no matter how much caffeine I have. Eat well too, no junk food and don’t drown your sorrow or overwhelm in alcohol (I’ve been there, done that too!).
    • Don’t worry about things that don’t affect the cash flow right now like updating your website, designing a flyer or logo, creating curriculum (without paying clients you don’t have a program!), writing blogs, attending big conferences possibly where you aren’t there solely to network for business. They will get done in due time. Push off deadlines you set for yourself for writing that book or whatever if it’s not going to produce the result you want now (unless that type of thing is your big vision).

This is the thought I had in the shower on Monday morning after I heard about what just happened in Las Vegas. “What is going on in the world?”

I shared a post about this and other horrific events that have occurred in our recent history on Facebook earlier this week that resonated with several people. Click here to review or post a comment.

Anyway, I’m 47 years old and can’t remember any year in my life when so many horrible things happened in the US and abroad.

I’m not going to talk politics here, but I am going to talk about what we can do about all of this senseless nonsense.  It seems there’s not a lot that we can do about Mother Nature, which can be scary enough, especially if something in the earth’s hemisphere or whatever has changed that’s causing all of the earthquakes, landslides, floods, hurricanes, etc.

We can’t change the fact that there are evil people in the world. However, we can fulfill our missions, goals and life purposes to the best of our abilities and AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!

Because when all of us good people of the world “DO GOOD” things in the world, we positively impact others in a BIG WAY. We need to focus on doing more kind things, philanthropic acts and to impact many more individuals on this planet.

But to do that though, we need funding. We can do so much more good with a lot more money behind us backing us, right?

  • If you are an entrepreneur who has been a bit stagnant in your business, yet you do good work…. STOP IT!
  • If you are in a job you hate and you KNOW you have a much bigger mission in this world then STOP “waiting until the time is right” and get out there and live your purpose now!
  • If you are struggling in your business, not knowing what to do next or how to do it so that YOU can LIVE YOUR TRUE CALLING…. but you aren’t reaching out for help on what to do or how to do it… STOP IT!

The world needs YOU to stand up, be stronger, be more courageous, be more confident, be more motivated and be more productive with what you’re doing so that you can make a lot more money FASTER while sharing your gifts.

Networking is probably the single most critical thing that I’ve ever learned to do well that has impacted my business the most with more clients, more opportunities, more exposure and more fun.

The more people you know, the more referrals and repeat business you will get. The number of people you have in your database is the number of people you have access to market to on a regular basis so your #1 goal in your business should be to build your database and set up a consistent, frequent system for marketing and following up with them.

networkingIf this isn’t your #1 goal, you’re missing out on a ton of sales. If you’re not networking (online and in person in some way), you’re missing out on a ton of sales.
What are you doing to network and meet new people every single month?

Where is your target market ‘hanging out’? Are they stay-at-home moms, who spend a large majority of their time doing things with their children’s school events or sports? Do those places have meetings? Are they homeowners who might attend home shows or community meetings? Are they all realtors? Are you attending their monthly association meetings?

I go where my target market is and I do it often, both locally and nationally. I apply to be a speaker at events and conferences too for more added credibility and opportunity during the event. You can find out about any group and what is available online.

Now, when I’m networking, I remember to ask important questions; asking questions is a HUGE, but important step! Whenever you are nervous or not sure what to say to break the ice, ask a question. When they answer the question, follow it up with another question, and so on and so on ….until you know their whole life story.

This builds trust with the person you are speaking to, when they walk away they think you are the greatest, they like you, they want to do business with you, and they want other people to know you too (e.g., a good referral source). It really does work.

Whatever you do, you don’t want to monopolize the conversation about you, what you do or how great your products or services are; you want to make it about them. In fact the only time I talk about myself is when they ask me questions, which doesn’t always happen by the way.

I want to do business with people that genuinely want to know how I am doing, how my business is doing, or how my dog or kids are doing. I network to build long lasting relationships with people like me who I respect and admire.

Let us try to be better networkers, listeners and truehearted professionals. If we do, the world just might be a better place and we will all gain more business in the end.

Today’s Tip – Key Things You Should be Doing When you are Networking!

Last week I explained why you should be networking more, what you need to be doing when you network and why it’s important to go to several events.  Today I’m going to talk about some key things you should be doing.  These are things I teach to my clients and with those who are in my Live Big Mastermind Group.

For those of you who have a hard time remembering all of the things you should be talking about when you meet someone at a networking event, here are some great tips.

screenshot video tip 03.24.16Create a Cheat Sheet. Write a list of all of the key things you need to remember to talk about while you are networking.  Read it before you go into the event.  Or if everyone is going around the room or table making introductions, just hold your cheat sheet while giving yours.  There’s nothing wrong with that.  I always have a list of the top three things I want to talk about when I go to a networking event because my topics are always changing.  For example, I might want to talk about a live event or a teleconference I’m participating in.  I might be promoting a free coaching call with me or I want to get speaking gigs and referrals.  Your cheat sheet or list will keep you on track.  Don’t just talk about what you DO, remember to ASK for what you NEED!  

Get the Follow UP Call or Meeting Scheduled.  If you never get to the follow up call, you are probably not going to be doing business with the people you’ve just met at networking events.  So try to schedule those “get to know you” calls while you are at the networking event.  This is how you’re going to learn more about how you can help each other.  Some of these calls will turn into prospects but you want to look at people as a referral source first.  Don’t come across as desperate and too salesy!

Work the Room.  You have to work the room.  Don’t talk to any one person too long. Try to learn as much as you can about them and get their contact information and move on.  You have to do more than just handing out your information.  Why?  Because it’s likely that nothing will be done with that information.  You can’t rely solely on your marketing materials to incite someone to follow up with you.  You have to get the other person’s contact information and take the initiative to follow up with them!

If you’re a small business owner looking to grow your business fast, then you want to get networking! Networking in person can be your fastest path to quick cash flow if you have special offers and easy YES offers.

This is the third post in the series on Networking – make sure you go read the last two posts and watch their corresponding video tips to know how to best prepare before a networking event and what to do to maximize your time during a networking event.

Networking continues to be one of my BEST sources of lead generation even now, 12 years into my business. I highly recommend it to ALL of my clients as well as their #1 marketing strategy.

But I’ve ONLY been as successful with networking as I have because I developed an EXTENSIVE and consistent follow up system! At first I had no idea that what I was doing was really a “system” or process that I did over and over again. when I realized that I put it all into a format so I didn’t have to continue recreating the wheel so to speak every time I went to an event.

And keep in mind that I follow up via email but also by mail (yes, U.S. mail), phone and now on social media sites too for some people. Email follow up these days, although free to do, is so NOT ENOUGH! Email is just not as effective as it used to be. Sorry to tell you this but you have to do MORE. Which is why you want templates, scripts and a clear system so it gets done.

Kat’s Top 20 Networking Tips (the second 10)

  1. Don’t Feature Dump when talking to people (don’t list all your services or benefits while talking), find out what the customer/person wants or needs by asking questions first and getting them talking – LISTEN!
  2. Never “lead” with a card when you enter a room, “leave” the card or wait until someone asks you for your card.  Don’t presume everyone wants your card.  If they don’t want it, they won’t do anything with it anyways so why waste it on them?
  3. Go by to follow up with those people in person who you think could be good referral sources or customers for you and/or mail them your brochure and card too.
  4. Offer to donate raffle prizes to events – use gift baskets or purchase something from a business that you’re trying to get to refer business to you and always slip your card and brochure into the gift.  (Don’t offer as a prize a certain dollar amount or discount off your product or service, it’s not a gift then, it’s only a discount.)
  5. Offer to give a referral discount or gift to those current customers or networking contacts that refer their friends (need to brainstorm ideas on incentives and “what’s in it for them” – maybe $100 referral fee depending on your price point or a $5 Starbucks gift card?)
  6. Make arrangements with other businesses to offer their products or services to your clients/contacts for free exposure for them while allowing you to give gifts to your clients.
  7. Do anything and everything you can to get noticed
  8. Every person you network with, follow up by sending them a note, flyer or letter about how you would like to work with them and how you can help each other.  Every person you meet with about your service, send them a thank you card right away.  You want to make every relationship a WIN-WIN.
  9. Follow up on every lead no matter what within 48 hours by phone, fax or email, whichever works best for THEM.
  10. Try to help everyone you meet by referring people to their business, they will remember you and do the same for you.

The key is to just get started. Find a few events and get out there!
