Talking About Money

When I’m talking about money, a catchy song from the 70s immediately comes to mind.
OMG do you remember that song….For the Love of Money? I had to ask Google… who sings the song with money, money, money, money…. MONEY in it… It was the OJays by the way! I didn’t even know the actual name of the song much less who sung it, fascinating… yet we can all sing along to that part, right!?

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what message you all could use today, what would serve you, what is top of mind with my clients right now and people I’ve met out networking, and they’re all talking about money in one way or another.

Hear me out…

You’ve heard the phrase: “Money is energy”, right? 

I also like:

'Money Follows Speed!' -- More money will come to you when you make faster decisions and take faster action.Click To Tweet (I use this a lot at my events to showcase examples of such which I’m going to get into below.)

I was just thinking that a lot of people I meet are fearful a bit about talking about money, about asking for money, about mentioning their pricing, about charging more.

Let’s face it, as an entrepreneur – you can’t be this way at all. You have to find a way to get beyond your fears and potentially get outside your comfort zone so you can talk about money and actually MAKE more money!!

This week alone, money has come up in many ways:

  • I spoke with two money coaches this week who serve women
  • I spoke with 3 new clients about their money goals
  • I spoke with about 8 clients or members of my Int’l Entrepreneur Network and my Int’l Speaker Network who need to make more money and get clients pretty darn quickly and we gave them tips
  • I’ve had discussions with financial planners myself and a real estate investor about how they want to help others build wealth
  • I’ve heard from a couple clients who had great money-making weeks!

So much of what I do and speak about is about money.

You might not have this much talk about money in your day-to-day lives and it occurred to me that this is why I’m sooooo comfortable talking about my pricing, programs, asking for people to attend my events and buy my stuff… is that I’m always in the conversation.

How can you get more in the conversation around money on a more consistent basis too?

I swear on my life that this will be so helpful for you to do, I promise over time, you too will get so much more comfortable with the money conversation that you won’t feel sleezy or salesy anymore.

You have to sell though. You have to market. You have to make offers. You have to have sales conversations. You can’t hide from this or you aren’t going to be successful.

One of the things I’m SUPER GREAT AT is talking through the sales conversation with someone, one-on-one or in a group and giving you THE WORDS to use in YOUR conversations so you feel empowered, confident and assertive enough to enroll more clients into YOUR AMAZING PROGRAMS!

I want to help you make more sales easily and authentically so you can impact so many more with your gifts…

Let me give you an example from one of my live events:

One time I had a pet psychic attend my event and she was an extreme introvert (maybe some of you can relate). I love getting my hands on introverts, it’s so fun! So part of what we do at my events is CREATE & SELL what I call, Easy Yes Offers. We do this in the room and I help you do this so that everyone literally has something to sell (to the room). Then people stand up and give us their pitches, right on the spot and then I say, “ok who wants that offer?” and people raise their hands, the one who made the offer goes around and either collects the CASH or a credit card, they make the transaction ON THE SPOT mind you, and the person is usually FLOORED with the fact that they just made $300 or sometimes even $1,000!!

Yes so the pet psychic gal, wasn’t really participating, she was just listening and watching, and I was watching her. Then once a bunch of people had shared their offers and money was flying around, I asked her to stand up and share hers. She said a polite “no thanks, I don’t have one”. And I said “oh yes you do… I’ll bet over half the room has pets here and you can work virtually as well as in person right?”. She said “yes”. I said “Okay, stand up and let’s see, what could you offer…”, we brainstormed it out right there on the spot, she was happy with it and spit out the offer (reluctantly) and boy if like 5 or 6 people didn’t raise their hands immediately to buy it!! I bought it too!! From stage I handed her my credit card!!

Did she get outside her comfort zone? YES

Was it worth it? I’d say so, it paid for her ticket and travel to the event!

What was the REAL lesson here?

  • That you have to SHOW UP IN PERSON sometimes, you can’t always just sit behind your computer.
  • You don’t know what you don’t know… well, until someone shoves you outside your comfort zone or teaches you.
  • You have to just ACT. If she had said an absolute no to me and not stood up, she wouldn’t have learned that she had a great offer for ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at any event she ever goes to. She can make money daily after this experience. She wouldn’t have made a dime. She may have regretted it later too, kicking herself wondering why she just couldn’t take the leap in faith and let herself experience this.

What are YOU doing when it comes to experiences like this?

Do you sit and wait it out?

Do you say, well maybe later, not now?

Do you think, oh I can’t do that?

STOP IT! You’re slowing down and even sabotaging your own success. You deserve more and you deserve it now, not someday.

Technology – How it Affects Business Efficiency Increasing Cash Flow

As business owners we all know that marketing and sales are what we need to do to create or increase cash flow, right? It’s pretty common sense stuff when you think about it, but actually DOING it is a whole other story.  We’re all pressed for time, doing a million things and everything seems to come at us at a fast pace. Technology was supposed to HELP us get more done, and in most cases it does. But, it also complicates things, too.

I just did a presentation the other day about marketing… but it was more than just marketing, I started out talking about WHY we need to do a lot more marketing first and it all came down to……… TECHNOLOGY!

Technology is part of business and business efficiency increases cash flow.

Follow with me here for a minute….

With more forms of technology being used (email, SMS texting, video marketing, social media, robo-calling, etc…) information is hitting us from all directions at lightning speed. It turns into a vicious cycle. This huge increase in amount and speed of information is making it harder to get people to pay attention which means we (you and me) just have to do MORE marketing.

The days of just sending one email out to our list or doing one post or even a Facebook Live to generate leads is GONE. Plain gone. These activities are no where near enough to get anyone to pay attention to you or your message, much less take action to purchase our products or sign up for our course and events.

That means we have to do more.  If we don’t DO MORE…our sales will fall off and that cuts our cash flow.

But to do more it takes more time right?

Well, it definitely could… IF you’re not being efficient.

Systems Increase Efficiency and Efficiency Increases Cash Flow

This is one reason I focus so much on teaching you systems. Systems for lead generation, marketing, follow up, sales and even systems to manage clients, your business, your team and so much more.

It takes a little bit of effort and time to LEARN what systems you need, what software perhaps, or technology and then learn HOW to implement those systems so that your business efficiency increases cash flow.

FOR EXAMPLE:

For a great lead generation system online, you want to have:

  • A well written landing page with a good call to action, what will you give away for free? Something that your ideal client really wants (not just what you think they need).
  • An opt in box, some way to collect their email and name on that page is critical. Ideally, a form NOT generated from a plugin on your WordPress either because that isn’t hooked up to a system that can send auto replies. You want an email marketing software that makes you compliant and will send an auto email reply (we call that an autoresponder).
  • The autoresponder set up, maybe more than just one email in that series too, it can be multiple emails set to send by day – day 0, the day they opt in, possibly day 2 to make sure they went and listened or downloaded your freebie, day 5 to ask them to come to a call with you perhaps or take a next step, day 10 with a good piece of other content for education along with call to action, etc.
  • This system would also hopefully include a prompt for YOU to call them to follow up, a prompt for you to MAIL THEM something in the mail if you can get their phone number and email address either at the time of opt in OR in subsequent emails when you get them to sign up for a call or other fun thing… ask for MORE contact info at that time.
  • All of this almost can be automated. And there could be more to it… but we’d have to look at your whole business model and your goals to determine what else.

Most people don’t do enough follow up and those people are missing out on Thousands and Thousands of Dollars! You need to start learning a system to improve your Follow up and to attract more people from the networking events you attend.

4 Ways to follow up Events & Speaking GigsIf you are going to spend time at a networking event, if you speak at a networking event, or if you are an exhibitor or a sponsor at a networking event and you have a display table, you have to make the effort to maximize your return of your investment of time and money to be at that event. You want to capture as many leads as possible.

I’m listing these types of LEADS into 3 categories as follows:

  • Hot Leads – you want to capture as many HOT leads as possible. You want to talk with the 3 or 4 people who want to book you for a speaking event or hire you. Follow up with them FIRST!
  • Warm Leads – these are the people who will likely buy from you or book you as a speaker within the next 6 months to a year.
  • Cold Leads – are the ones who might start watching for your emails and learning from you. Something in their life may shift and they will want to hire you. This can take from 1 to 5 years or more to convert these prospects into buyers.

When following up, you CANNOT rely solely on your email marketing these days. Some people think they only have to put these prospects on an email list. They are WRONG and you have to be careful not to spam people – get more information on this in the video. You need to start putting your mailing address on your business card as well as your phone number, your email list and website information. This is why…

There are 4 Methods of Follow Up:

  • Email – your digital newsletter and other email communication that relates specifically to them.
  • Phone – remind them you sent an email with a freebie they were looking for.
  • Direct Mail – send them a note that says, “It was great to meet you, let’s have a phone conversation so I can learn more about you.”
  • Social Media – send a message to them to check their email for what you sent to them.

You have to approach your follow up marketing in different ways. Why? Because people are busy, they are as busy as you are! So make sure you are following up in those 4 different ways after every event. Get your system organized NOW!

I’m sharing with you today some quick business tips about Tradeshows and doing Table Displays at Expos and Events.

tradeshows - make money - get leadsThese are tips that will help you at tradeshows, expos, and events, whether you have 20 people attending and you have a table in the room or whether you are doing a full conference expo and there are rows of vendors.

I’ve been talking to a few of my clients on this specific topic and I’ve found that they are unprepared for the events they have coming up.  Because I’ve been working on this with them, I wanted to share tips with you!

There are SO many things to think about doing – BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER an Event.

 BEFORE THE EVENT:

  • See if there is a Facebook, LinkedIn or Google + Page for the event. Start networking before the event.  Start building relationships in advance.

DURING THE EVENT:

  • Make sure you have a strategy to get in front of as many people as possible.  HINT: Some of the Vendors might need you too!

AFTER THE EVENT:

  • There is SO MUCH follow up to do after the event! I have a strategy for you for that!

Today I want to give you some great tips about growing your business while you have all of the distractions that come in the Summer.

Yes, it’s time for Summer Fun but you can still have fun while working on some Summer organization and you can begin some Summer Creativity Sessions. You still need to be focusing on all the things you would normally be doing even though you have less time to work for whatever reason.  Maybe your time is limited because the kids are home or you want to get out and play more because it’s nice outside.

Grow You BizWhatever the reason, don’t disregard your business!  You still need to do your marketing to have leads coming in, right?  This is what will bring income in to your business. You need to stay productive.

Here are some tips to help you stay on track even though you have all the distractions that come with Summer.

  • Clean up your office or space so you can be more productive
  • Hire a Professional Organizer or organize your space better
  • Purge your files
  • Condense your To Do List
  • Get Creative, develop something new!
  • Schedule time to work on specific projects
  • Have some Summer Fun!

Do you get tripped up when trying to share what you do?

Many entrepreneurs get confused about how to best answer that question.

how to share what you DoFirst of all, you should make sure you are using the words; the language that makes a difference with your referrals sources and prospective clients.  It’s more than just giving someone your title such as “I’m a business coach”.   I introduced myself in this video as “the JumpStart Your Biz Coach”.  That’s pretty descriptive, right?  People understand that I help entrepreneurs JumpStart their businesses.  I will follow that up with “I help entrepreneurs make more money in their businesses doing what they love so they don’t have to work so hard!”   That’s takes only seconds to say.  I’m using the language that my clients use – my clients want to make more money!

I don’t agree with being too vague when talking to people – it won’t make enough of an impact to help them remember you.  But don’t get on a roll giving people too much of a description of what you do either. You’ll likely lose them while they are trying to follow your description.

Do you realize that if you go too long without making time for a vacation then you could burn out, get resentful or worse…get divorced!?

So many business owners and entrepreneurs are working way too hard and not taking enough time off or taking vacations even.

Kat and family on vacationWe just got back from week long vacation in San Diego and no one died and nothing bad happened in my business or with any of my clients. You can do this…I was even totally UNPLUGGED!
This picture is of us at the Hotel Del Coronado; my mom was able to join us on this trip too. We didn’t take a whole lot of pictures though as most of the time it was bathing suit attire LOL.
I highly recommend taking a week off at least once or twice a year though; it does a lot for your motivation and your soul both.
  • Maybe you think you can’t afford to take a vacation?
  • Maybe you think a vacation has to look a certain way and haven’t considered other ways of taking time off and getting UNPLUGGED?

Either way, it’s true, you could do yourself and your relationships some real damage if you don’t figure out a way to stop working all the time (I know many of you are) and take time out for yourself and your family.

Did you take a vacation yet this year? If not….WHY???

  • Are you too busy?
  • Are you not making enough money and feel like you just have to keep on working and working to make more first?

Well STOP IT! Take a vacation will ya?!

It will do you good, it will do your loved ones good and it will do your soul good….it’s worth it.

And you can do an inexpensive vacation, the price doesn’t matter, it’s the time off UNPLUGGED THAT DOES!

Watch my video today for a couple quick tips….on the day after my most recent vacation. 😉

Here are a few inexpensive types of vacations you could take (for those where money is an obstacle):

  1. Camping – I can’t say that I love camping but I do enjoy it. I need some basic necessities however, I can’t just go with a tent and a duffle bag or hiking and stuff….but camp sites aren’t that much depending on the time of year. All you need is really food to go with it which you’d be eating anyway right?
  2. Visiting family – I realize some of you would love this but others of you don’t consider this a “vacation”; however it is time away and you’d have a place to stay to save money! Plus you’ll win points with your family too and may not have to attempt another visit in a long while or now it would be their turn!
  3. A Staycation – Yes that means staying home but then you could do fun trips to the neighborhood pool, parks, lake, have a picnic, go to the ocean if it’s nearby or the mountains, go hiking, biking and more. Just remember to truly UNPLUG and not work if you’re taking this time off.
