The biggest lesson I’ve learned during covid

The biggest lesson I learned during this covid shut down “era”, is now what I feel it’s like since it’s lasting so long… besides just trusting that “it will all work out” which has been my motto my whole journey as an entrepreneur… The biggest lesson I’ve learned thus far is that as an entrepreneur, you can LITERALLY make money doing anything, anytime, from anywhere.

I’m seeing people make shifts in their businesses big time, some have just had to, but when you fully BELIEVE that anything is possible, and you BRAINSTORM with others who have BIG IDEAS and probably think BIGGER than you, it can result in some HUGE OPPORTUNITIES that you may not have thought out on your own.

I’m seeing it with ALL TYPES of businesses also.

You can’t say “well that virtual stuff doesn’t work with my type of business”. I will bet you $1000 I can find a way HOW YOU can make money and/or do things differently – you just may not WANT to do them or FEEL COMFORTABLE doing them!

That’s your choice but you could be holding yourself back with your negative thoughts and doubts. During times like this you have to LET GO of what you think has to be and EMBRACE the evolution of you and your business. It’s Simple. Yet YOU may not see what to do on your own, you most likely will need someone to SHOW YOU the WHAT and the HOW.

Don’t get me wrong, I KNOW that we all don’t do our businesses JUST to make money… of course. We want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and we want to HELP PEOPLE. But we’re not going to be able to help many people if we don’t FOCUS ON OURSELVES FIRST. Make sure you are doing whatever it takes to take care of YOU and your family first, then everyone else please. And in order to help a LOT more people, we need to make a LOT more money so we can do BIGGER THINGS and aren’t “MONEY STRESSED” in the process.

First Steps to Setting Up Your Business’ Foundation for a Smooth-Running Consistent $$Making Machine  

  1. Determine your ideal target audience – whether you have one, two or three different target markets, figure out who they most logical ones are who would be interested in your products, services, programs and more and why they should care 
  1. Figure out your overall marketing message – the transformation you provide and the problems you solve and what type of “wording” will attract the target audience plus what’s in it for them (this wording and messaging will go on all your marketing materials and website) 
  1. Design a website – one that represents what you’re doing, selling, offering and who it’s for and why they should care.   1. Free gifts and downloads – you want to have one, two or even multiple freebies on your website and in general to make your target market want to learn more and get more info. What can you develop that hits their “hot buttons” and gives them a glimpse or a “taste” of what they’re seeking as far as advice, content, training, resources and more.
  1. Videos – you’ll use videos for all sorts of things, what you want to do in the beginning stages of your business is create videos that have people “experience you”, get to know you, learn from you, and for interaction on your website and social sites.
  1. Team and Tools – there will be many things you’ll start to implement or need to do that you can delegate or outsource, the key is figuring out WHICH things to start delegating first and how to make it so you can afford to delegate them. There are also many techy tools and resources that will help you be more efficient, productive and profitable, don’t be afraid to embrace tools to support you, be open to learning new things and new ways.

Zoom best practices, tips, etiquette & other meetings you can attend!

I’ve been madly creating resources and lists of other opportunities for you all to attend for virtual networking on Zoom and other ways… since that’s basically the only way to network these days.

When is it time to raise your rates (OMG)?

Do you feel valued for what you get paid right now in your business?

I hope so!

Unfortunately, too often, I see entrepreneurs who don’t feel valued, or they feel a bit resentful even sometimes. OR I see entrepreneurs who don’t REALIZE what they’re worth – THAT happens most often actually. You just don’t know what people really will pay you for your time, expertise or a product or offering.

AND… if you leave it up to YOUR mindset about what to charge, sometimes we say things to ourselves like “Well, no one will pay THAT of course” or “people don’t have that kind of money” as you prejudge others as to what THEY will invest!! WTF? Seriously?

Stop it. Stop prejudging your potential customers and clients on what you “think” they can afford. Instead you need to STAND IN YOUR OWN TRUE VALUE & KNOW YOU DESERVE TO BE PAID THE AMOUNT YOU CHOOSE.

Many of us can charge whatever we want, that’s just how it goes with being an entrepreneur.

Others of you could have jobs or businesses that are regulated like Financial Planners or Insurance Agents perhaps or even Realtors (Don’t get me started on Realtors – they work WAY too hard before even getting paid a dime. I would never be a Realtor just because of that.)

So for those of you who CAN set your own rates, how do you know when it’s time to raise them or change up your business model perhaps and do something different?

I think, as soon as you even remotely start feeling undervalued or resentful for sure, but every year or couple years at least in most cases.

What about those of you who have the regulated type of business? Well, YOU can create other income streams perhaps. You can always write a book, or get paid to speak or do a training that can be outside your normal working services. You can host an event perhaps too or deep dive retreat if that’s more your thing. You just have to think “outside the box” and/or talk with someone like me who can help you strategize ideas and possibilities!

For those of you who maybe are unaware of what you could truly get paid for what you’re already doing, you need to start talking to people like me and others in other industries or in entrepreneur groups to get bigger ideas, see proof of others making more – they’re out there, you just may not come in contact with them!

For those of you who are NEWer in business, often times you think just because you’re new you have to start lower and that’s TOTALLY FALSE! You don’t. Many of the people I talk to who think this have so much darn expertise or experience in the area they’re now building a business around that they could charge 4 times as much as they’re initially thinking but they don’t see how that experience plays into their new business (yet). It does and you can come out of the gate at a much higher rate.

Either way you slice it, most of you who are reading this are probably NOT charging enough OR there are other ways you can easily sell your knowledge or experience but you just don’t know how to get that going.

It could be to launch a course or group program? A live event or start speaking. There are so many ways to make more money in your business but if you aren’t having conversations around this, then you’re not seeing those ways or seeing that it could be YOUR REALITY too.

I always say, “You’ve got to stay in the conversation” to continue learning, growing and expanding around your worth, your value, your skillset and more.

And another fun saying I say to people at my events and when I work with them is this: “You want to charge as much as you can possibly say without stuttering!” (Because when you stutter then you don’t look as confident of course.)

So… WHAT IS THE MOST YOU CAN SAY YOU’RE WORTH RIGHT NOW, TODAY, WITHOUT STUTTERING?

Do it, raise your rates! What have you got to lose? Besides, you can always negotiate when talking with a potential client if you want? “Start high and go low” is another thing I say. Don’t start with the one time call when you’re making an offer – start with the annual program and go down from there, then everything else seems like a much more doable option.

Getting really good at the “SALES CONVERSATION” is a critical skill that all entrepreneurs must learn, I don’t care what business or industry you are in. There is NO way around learning this and becoming better at sales. So no matter what you’re charging, you have to be able to show the value of what you offer in that conversation. The other person has to feel your worth and confidence, plain and simple.

Talking About Money

When I’m talking about money, a catchy song from the 70s immediately comes to mind.
OMG do you remember that song….For the Love of Money? I had to ask Google… who sings the song with money, money, money, money…. MONEY in it… It was the OJays by the way! I didn’t even know the actual name of the song much less who sung it, fascinating… yet we can all sing along to that part, right!?

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what message you all could use today, what would serve you, what is top of mind with my clients right now and people I’ve met out networking, and they’re all talking about money in one way or another.

Hear me out…

You’ve heard the phrase: “Money is energy”, right? 

I also like:

I was just thinking that a lot of people I meet are fearful a bit about talking about money, about asking for money, about mentioning their pricing, about charging more.

Let’s face it, as an entrepreneur – you can’t be this way at all. You have to find a way to get beyond your fears and potentially get outside your comfort zone so you can talk about money and actually MAKE more money!!

This week alone, money has come up in many ways:

  • I spoke with two money coaches this week who serve women
  • I spoke with 3 new clients about their money goals
  • I spoke with about 8 clients or members of my Int’l Entrepreneur Network and my Int’l Speaker Network who need to make more money and get clients pretty darn quickly and we gave them tips
  • I’ve had discussions with financial planners myself and a real estate investor about how they want to help others build wealth
  • I’ve heard from a couple clients who had great money-making weeks!

So much of what I do and speak about is about money.

You might not have this much talk about money in your day-to-day lives and it occurred to me that this is why I’m sooooo comfortable talking about my pricing, programs, asking for people to attend my events and buy my stuff… is that I’m always in the conversation.

How can you get more in the conversation around money on a more consistent basis too?

I swear on my life that this will be so helpful for you to do, I promise over time, you too will get so much more comfortable with the money conversation that you won’t feel sleezy or salesy anymore.

You have to sell though. You have to market. You have to make offers. You have to have sales conversations. You can’t hide from this or you aren’t going to be successful.

One of the things I’m SUPER GREAT AT is talking through the sales conversation with someone, one-on-one or in a group and giving you THE WORDS to use in YOUR conversations so you feel empowered, confident and assertive enough to enroll more clients into YOUR AMAZING PROGRAMS!

Let me give you an example from one of my live events:

One time I had a pet psychic attend my event and she was an extreme introvert (maybe some of you can relate). I love getting my hands on introverts, it’s so fun! So part of what we do at my events is CREATE & SELL what I call, Easy Yes Offers. We do this in the room and I help you do this so that everyone literally has something to sell (to the room). Then people stand up and give us their pitches, right on the spot and then I say, “ok who wants that offer?” and people raise their hands, the one who made the offer goes around and either collects the CASH or a credit card, they make the transaction ON THE SPOT mind you, and the person is usually FLOORED with the fact that they just made $300 or sometimes even $1,000!!

Yes so the pet psychic gal, wasn’t really participating, she was just listening and watching, and I was watching her. Then once a bunch of people had shared their offers and money was flying around, I asked her to stand up and share hers. She said a polite “no thanks, I don’t have one”. And I said “oh yes you do… I’ll bet over half the room has pets here and you can work virtually as well as in person right?”. She said “yes”. I said “Okay, stand up and let’s see, what could you offer…”, we brainstormed it out right there on the spot, she was happy with it and spit out the offer (reluctantly) and boy if like 5 or 6 people didn’t raise their hands immediately to buy it!! I bought it too!! From stage I handed her my credit card!!

Did she get outside her comfort zone? YES

Was it worth it? I’d say so, it paid for her ticket and travel to the event!

What was the REAL lesson here?

  • That you have to SHOW UP IN PERSON sometimes, you can’t always just sit behind your computer.
  • You don’t know what you don’t know… well, until someone shoves you outside your comfort zone or teaches you.
  • You have to just ACT. If she had said an absolute no to me and not stood up, she wouldn’t have learned that she had a great offer for ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at any event she ever goes to. She can make money daily after this experience. She wouldn’t have made a dime. She may have regretted it later too, kicking herself wondering why she just couldn’t take the leap in faith and let herself experience this.

What are YOU doing when it comes to experiences like this?

Do you sit and wait it out?

Do you say, well maybe later, not now?

Do you think, oh I can’t do that?

STOP IT! You’re slowing down and even sabotaging your own success. You deserve more and you deserve it now, not someday.

How does Freedom, Play and Fun look to you as a business owner?

I recently joined a Livestream with Maria Appleqvist and Rhoda Liebig and this was the topic we focused on.

It’s very difficult, if not impossible, for business owners to focus on Freedom, Play and Fun, if they are stressing to make money. Many business owners have so much money stress;  they are always worried about paying their bills. I address this with many of my clients too.

Can you relate to this?

The problem is that many business owners have a roller-coaster cash flow – they have peaks and valleys in the cash flow. My goal is to get my clients to the level where they have a consistent revenue generating business. Once their income levels out, we work on increasing the revenue to the next level.

The key is to have consistent income. It becomes much easier to focus on Freedom, Play and Fun when you’re no longer worried if you have enough money coming in to pay your bills.

The keys to a consistent money-making machine of a business are:

  • Automating
  • Systems
  • Team – or Delegating
  • And Marketing – you have to do a lot more marketing to reach more people.

You have to learn how to be more efficient and effective with your marketing and your operations to grow your business and to manage it.  These are areas that I help my clients with.

I’ve been in business for almost 16 years and I’ve learned a lot from the mentors and masterminds I’ve had or been involved in.  And I learned by making my own mistakes.  I’ve been fortunate to see behind the scenes of several millionaire’s operations.

Once you get everything set up to flow smoothly and generate income consistently, you’ll have the freedom to leave your office to go out and connect with more people. You’ll need to make those valuable connections to help you grow your business.

Are you trying to figure out how to build a CONSISTENT 6-FIGURE BUSINESS doing what you love? Consistency being the KEY here.

Well, over the last 15 years in my coaching business, I’ve seen thousands of entrepreneurs in all different industries and levels in business all trying to reach this same goal… most without a lot of luck however.

During this time, I’ve learned that most entrepreneurs DO NOT HAVE consistent cash flow. If you are currently making 6- figures each year, let’s keep you there!  If creating a 6 or 7-figure business is what you are aiming for, you are in the right place.

Either way, you need to set realistic goals. If you expect to make 7-figures during your first year of business, you will likely be disappointed when you don’t reach that mark.  Set your goals to realize incremental growth in your income and sales.  You need to work at it consistently and your growth needs to be sustainable. Otherwise, your cash flow will have peaks and valleys.

All of the tips I’m sharing here are important but I’m not ranking them by order of importance. They include:

Systems & Strategies:

Your systems and strategies must be organized with the processes you have in place.  For example, how do you generate leads from your website?  Everything on your website should be clear and should run smoothly.

Think about your Marketing, Follow-up & Sales Systems, from social media, live events, speaking gigs, or even Facebook Live.  How do you get people or leads into your system or process?  Do you have to follow up with every lead manually? Or, do you have a process, system, or the technology in place that enters your lead into your process. This is the #1 obstacle that I see holding many entrepreneurs back from making more money.  They try to take care of too many things manually.

Get the Right Team in Place:

I have several years’ experience hiring assistants to handle a variety of tasks to help me in my business. And I’ve made a lot of mistakes. But I’ve learned a lot from those mistakes. I’ve also learned tips from the VA community which has increased my insights about hiring and managing teams. I have a free training that includes a checklist of all of the types of tasks you can and should be outsourcing. You can access it here at jumpstartyourteam.com.  Just remember, it’s very difficult to expand your reach, grow your business and make more money if you are the only person working in your business. You just can’t do it all and expect to create a 6-figure business.

Do you know how many times each month I talk to people who are settling? If you are, then my advice to you is STOP IT! There are those who are in a job and it pays the bills, but they hate it! There are those who are in unhappy marriages and they do nothing but complain about it constantly. There are others who are single and who want to be in a relationship, but they are doing nothing to find the man or woman of their dreams.

Then there are people who are settling with the results of their business! Why?  You can change things in your business to get better results! Stop Settling!   Your business is YOUR baby.  It can evolve because you have the control to change it.

You don’t have control over the dating environment. You don’t have control over your boss at the job you hate, unless you are ready to get rid of it.  If you are unhappy in your job and if you can start and grow YOUR business with consistent cash flow – then yes, you can quit your job.  I help people like you regularly – people who are ready to leave their jobs but need someone to pull out their unique talents in a conversation and who can guide you to create a consistently profitable business.

If you are thinking that you have to WAIT for something to change in your life, your love life, your career or your business, STOP IT!  How long are you going to put things off?  Life is just too darn short!  Wake Up!

How many people do you know that have a serious, life-threatening disease?   It seems I hear about someone I know coming down with a serious health problem or disease frequently these days.  If you want your life to change, don’t wait!   Change things now so you can be happy and live your life with purpose.

If your job or  your career isn’t serving you; if your relationship with your significant is not making you happy, you should talk to someone who has experienced many of this situations you are experiencing.  You need someone who has a better understanding of how to match opportunities with talents.  Let’s face it; many people don’t know what they don’t know.  I’m here to make you aware of opportunities and how to maximize them to your benefit.

I want you to stop settling!  I want you to have a happier life, to be successful and make MONEY!  I’ve done it and I want to be your resource to guide you so you can experience this too.
