Hey everyone, here’s a quick tip on how to be more successful INSIDE OTHER PEOPLE’S FACEBOOK GROUPS.

First of all, let me say that posting in other people’s groups and other pages and things on Facebook here is one of the main ways I engage with people.

HOWEVER… I do it very strategically and NOT salesy.

So many people (a few of you too have done this and I’ve private messaged you about it) will think that by joining groups like this one, it gives you the rights to just post whatever you want whenever you want.

Not a good plan.

You first want to read the groups “rules” or description which is usually located on the right column and/or it’s often pinned to the top of the group as an announcement.

That will give you some basic guidelines as to when certain posts might be allowed for example; promotions on Wednesdays, inspiration on Tuesdays, Tips on Fridays, etc.

I would also recommend trying to ENGAGE in the COMMENTS of a post whenever you have something of value to add. It will make you look good in the light of the leader of that group because Facebook loves it when posts get comments, not just likes and hearts.

I would refrain from posting salesy mentions about your products and services except maybe once in a while, and best to do this INSIDE THE COMMENTS if you’re able to help someone with your expertise when they ask for support or have a question about something. Blatently posting ads and salesy posts can get you removed and you’re not making friends then, just enemies.

Instead, offer to give free advice, answer questions, give examples and share stories on posts that your comments are encouraged. If people like what you have to say then “ideally” they will click on your profile name to find out more about you and/or private message you.

As for private messaging people inside other people’s groups… there’s nothing wrong with doing that if you have a reason OR if you’re very careful about the wording that you use. Again, do not send a message to promote yourself, it’s like asking someone to go to third base with someone on a first date. NOT COOL.

Social media is all about connecting, building relationships, sharing other people’s info, standing out, getting visibility but in a good way so people perceive you as an expert and THEN that makes them want to know more. Social media marketing and connecting takes time sometimes, it’s not a wham bam thank you mam kind of place.

Try offering to have a phone conversation with people to find out more about THEM… NOT to talk about you.

Business will come if you do the right things in your marketing plain and simple. If you aren’t sure what to do exactly or what to say then ask for and seek help – you must or you may end up burning bridges and being that person no one wants to get to know.

Oh and PS – start your own group and build your own community, then you can do whatever you want inside that group. (although I still recommend giving a lot of value first before trying to sell or no one will come back)

Recently I was prepping my materials and PowerPoint for my Speaker Success Bootcamp and it reminded me to bring this to your attention and ask you about Virtual Trainings and Courses…

  • Do you have them? Host them?
  • Want to hold some?
  • Think you could make a lot more residual income if you did host them?
  • Do you attend them or buy them yourself?
  • All good questions right?

I think we all want to find some residual income streams, am I right?

There’s some easy business models that fit the bill for this such as:

  • Affiliate Marketing (making money referring programs, products, systems and technology) – I make a few hundred dollars a month right now using affiliate marketing. Some of my friends make thousands each month; it’s a much bigger strategy for them.
  • Membership Programs (having people pay you a monthly fee to get recurring training or knowledge of some sort from you) – I’m inching up with my Int’l Entrepreneur Network now for this, at $7/month, you can make a nice bit of cash each month if you can get a few hundred people (or even a few thousand!). It’s not as easy as it sounds however.
  • Then there’s creating and running virtual or online training programs, perhaps doing them over and over again live OR boxing them up into Home Study Programs or Courses after you do them live. I have a few of those and I’m actually thinking of bringing some LIVE trainings back this year and next year.

Here’s a quick tip about creating Virtual Programs:

FIRST: Figure out which type of program will fit YOU, Your Lifestyle, Your Personality and Your Clients.

That means, brainstorm about and determine if you should host an ongoing program, or what I call a “start/stop program” that has a specific start date and end date (could be more difficult to fill on time if you’re new to this). Do you want a short term (3-6 week) or longer term program (90 days)? Do you like the 30 day challenge model with daily interaction? The decision is yours however you want to decide carefully based on many factors:

  • How you like to deliver
  • How your clients like to attend or consume info
  • How likely it is that you have hot prospects
  • Price you want to charge
    • Will this be a lower priced offering to get people to “try you out” or a deeper, more comprehensive training farther down your “funnel” and more expensive?

Streamlining, systematizing and delegating more in your business can allow you more free time, vacation time and self-care or family time you know. It is possible but you have to make time to implement this stuff.

Have you been trying to get yourself some speaking opportunities (I call them gigs) but you’re not having the best of luck getting booked?

Are you wondering how becoming a speaker will generate more business for you or why it’s such an important marketing strategy?

Well, I’ll tell you; I get most of my coaching clients and even most of my paying customers for other products and programs from speaking gigs. Sometimes they hear me speak in person at a conference or business event. Sometimes they hear me speak over the phone on a teleclass or webinar. Either way, being a speaker allows me to be the expert in my industry or on my topic. It brings credibility to what I do, who I am and it allows people to experience me quicker than if there were to just read a page or two on my website.

When people get to hear you or watch you for a longer period of time than just a quick hello or introduction it gives them more of a sense of what you do, how you can help them and they can make a more informed decision on if or how they want to work with you. I highly recommend adding speaking to your overall marketing strategies if you’re a small business owner.

In fact, I just developed a new speaker training course on this topic because all my coaching clients were needing to learn what to do to become a speaker. I developed the following 6 Step Process.

Step 1: Determine WHO you’ll talk to and what do they want to hear. Ask yourself “What are you an expert in? or Who is your target market and where will we find groups of them? What do they care about exactly that relates somewhat to what you do?“

Step 2: Develop your speaking topics and speaker sheet. It’s important to BE PREPARED for speaking opportunities at all times if you expect to get any. You want to have a professional speaker sheet ready to email someone who wants to book you that includes your topics, descriptions, bullets of what they’ll learn, your bio, picture and contact information at the very least.

Step 3: Strategize on where to get gigs. You’ll need to build a list of potential events, organizations or meetings that you can speak for locally, nationally and virtually. There are easy ways to find places but you need to do your due diligence if you want to get booked.

Step 4: Craft your presentations. It’s important to create your speaking presentations so that they are educational, informative, memorable and they make the audience take the action you want them to take at the end. Whether you’re making a sales pitch at the end or not, how you design your talk is crucial to your success.

Step 5: Design your accompanying marketing materials. Often times you’ll want handouts, flyers, order forms or table display materials for when you attend a live speaking event (as well as virtual – what to do online). Again, if you’re not prepared with these things then you’ll most likely waste your time doing the speaking in the first place.

Step 6: Following up after a speaking gig. Most speakers don’t do this well at all and it could be more important than what you do AT the event itself. Developing a kick-butt follow up plan for after an event will provide ongoing lead generation and sales.

Hopefully this gives you some idea on what to get started doing to jumpstart yourself as a speaker.

Remember though, speaking is just ONE type of marketing strategy that you may want to do in your small business. Generally you need to do 5-15 marketing strategies every month in order to maximize your potential.
