What do you do when a prospect says no?

What do you do when a prospect says no?

  • Do you give up the first time and say okay, bye?
  • Or do you ask why?
  • Do you try to get to the heart of the real reason they’re saying no?

If you give up too easily, or too soon, then you’re missing out on thousands and thousands of dollars in sales in your business.

For most prospects, their first no is just to see if you can overcome their objections. It’s not that they do this consciously, but unconsciously. Many people innately want to protect themselves from buying, so their subconscious triggers the standard responses that may not even be the real reason or real response they truly want to give.

When you’re in a sales conversation one-on-one with somebody there’s a lot more to do than just present the features and benefits of your program product or service and ask them if they want to buy.

The sales conversation is a dance that you have to learn, it’s not a skill we’re all born with. Some are better than others at this dance but we all have to learn how to do this better and more authentically to us. You can’t avoid learning more about sales and honing your sales skills just because you don’t want to be considered “salesy”. You just need to learn how to do it in a way that makes you feel good about it and that ALSO gets you the RESULTS that you want.

There are many phrases, words, and strategies to use within a sales conversation and it varies depending on your industry, type of business, level of confidence, skill, and opportunity in which you are engaging with a prospect.

If you don’t know what those are, and when to interject which, then you could lose the sale more often than not and you definitely are probably a little ill prepared on what to do when the prospect says no.

The words that you use and the things that you say in the sales conversation are critical to your success, and frankly critical to you serving your new customer or client. I’m assuming here that you have an amazing program product or service that is going to benefit your prospect tremendously here, I’m not just talking about selling people at random or because we are just out to “sell” someone. Selling is serving though and you do have to embrace that if you’re a business owner or you will most likely never get ahead.

Without sales your business cannot survive. Without clients, you cannot serve or help others so I urge you to do whatever it takes to hone your sales skills… sooner rather than later.

11 Types of Videos You Can Create to Jumpstart Your Business

I know that for some of you you’re forced into doing more videos right now and others you love doing them or do them already and will continue to once the country gets “back to work”.

Videos are one of the single most paid attention to marketing strategy right now and YouTube is one of the world’s largest search engines.

You literally have to be doing videos to keep up with your competition and make sure you are NOT the “best kept secret” for what you do.

For many of you, you’re having to learn how to do videos more effectively, learn the technology as well as perhaps the strategy behind WHY you want to do more videos AND what the heck to do them about, right?

  1. Video tips about topics you are an expert in or that involve your business
  2. Product reviews if you have a book or product solely for the purpose to introduce and share features of a particular product
  3. Promotional video that talks about something you’re selling or offering for free
  4. Interview with you being interviewed or you interviewing someone or just a joint video with another complimentary business professional on a topic you both have expertise in
  5. Testimonial video for someone else or request them from your clients
  6. Training video for one of your paid courses or programs
  7. Free webinar or preview call designed to teach a little, list build, get people introduced to you and then make offers to work with you, enroll in a program or come to a free discovery/strategy session with you
  8. Facebook live or other social media live video with the purpose of building relationships (you can do others for the other above reasons too) and having your followers get to know you more
  9. Rant videos… if you must, go ahead and share some controversial thoughts!
  10. Webpage videos – these are videos that would enhance the wording on a specific page on your site. These could be good for the following types of pages (literally every page could have an explainer video): Home, About, Services, Free Gift, Contact, Free Consult, thank you pages, Speaker page and more!
  11. Tutorial video – either doing this for free or paid, I’ve done both. Some I feel have more value, I charge for, others that could be a very good draw to get more people on my list, I may give away. Some tutorials are good to show your assistants what you want done or they may give to you for things you need to learn in your business perhaps.

The New “Networking” – Treating Online Events Like Offline Ones

Let’s face it Zoom is the place for Business Networking right now…. and for a few years now it has been for me regardless. I love video conference calling and online meetings – they are SO efficient and effective PLUS they can be SUPER PROFITABLE TOO!

You just have to know how to “work the zoom room”! You also have to know how to work Facebook and other social media sites like you would a live, in person networking event.

Business Basics for Consistent Cash Flow

Taking your business to the next level could mean… going back to and implementing the Business Basics that work and have worked for hundreds of years but you’ve forgotten about them because you get so distracted with the Bright Shiny New Thing. Listen into this video for some reminders about things you have probably gotten away from in your business… it’s all about Relationships in this day and age, and also talking with MORE people.

 

If you’re not making the kind of money you want to make it’s probably because you’re not talking to ENOUGH people! Get back to Business Basics, it’s time. Stop avoiding these basic marketing and business practices please. Reach out for help if you need it too, don’t just sit there not knowing what to do or how to do it.

20 Simple Business Basics: 

  1. Get a name badge so people know who you are wherever you go –  mixers, events, the store, etc. (it also adds credibility and professionalism)
  2. Get past the gatekeeper (receptionist/secty) to the business owner and get to know them, see if there is anything you can do on trade maybe so they can get a feel for your expertise
  3. Build Rapport & Relationships, don’t try to sell right off the bat, people get turned off, however don’t forget to slip in a trial close now and then
  4. Come up with original idea to get in the door with your product–maybe a food gift of some kind or creative promotional item
  5. Make 10 cold calls each day, no matter what (in person or on the phone) to people you want to associate with, do business with or who you want to refer business to you
  6. Gift those larger businesses you want to target or write a letter to those businesses you want to recommend your services
  7. Offer to donate raffle prizes to events – use gift baskets or purchase something from a business that you’re trying to get to refer business to you & always slip your card and brochure into the gift.  (Don’t offer as a prize a certain dollar amount off your product, it’s not a gift then, it’s only a discount.)
  8. Offer to give a referral discount or gift to those current customers who refer their friends or to anyone who refers friends (need to brainstorm ideas on incentives and “what’s in it for them” – maybe $100 referral fee?)
  9. Do anything and everything you can to get noticed!
  10. Every person you network with, follow up by sending them a quick note card asking if they would like to schedule a follow up call to get to know one another better and see if or how you can refer business to one another.
  11. Mail other marketing materials, brochure or letters about how you can help them in subsequent mailings to follow up.
  12. Send people a thank you card right away after a meeting, interview, etc.
  13. Follow up on every lead within 48 hours by phone, text, social media message or email, whichever works best for them.
  14. Try to help everyone you meet by referring people to their business, they will remember you & do the same for you
  15. Follow up with all customers within 72 hours of their purchase by phone, text, social media message or email (or more than one of these).
  16. Send your web address with every follow up to continually take them back to your site for more ‘shopping’ or searching.
  17. Follow up with customers at least quarterly to ask for feedback and referrals
  18. Follow up with potential customers weekly to make appointments & ask for feedback and referrals
  19. Make sure your customers have plenty of brochures on hand & some kind of marketing object with your website on it for easy access (pens, pad of paper, magnet, stress ball, other? etc.)
  20. Send out personal cards to clients for Christmas, Birthdays or some other holiday at least twice a year (there are companies who will do that for you)

Talking About Money

Talking About Money

When I’m talking about money, a catchy song from the 70s immediately comes to mind.
OMG do you remember that song….For the Love of Money? I had to ask Google… who sings the song with money, money, money, money…. MONEY in it… It was the OJays by the way! I didn’t even know the actual name of the song much less who sung it, fascinating… yet we can all sing along to that part, right!?

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what message you all could use today, what would serve you, what is top of mind with my clients right now and people I’ve met out networking, and they’re all talking about money in one way or another.

Hear me out…

You’ve heard the phrase: “Money is energy”, right? 

I also like:

'Money Follows Speed!' -- More money will come to you when you make faster decisions and take faster action.Click To Tweet (I use this a lot at my events to showcase examples of such which I’m going to get into below.)

I was just thinking that a lot of people I meet are fearful a bit about talking about money, about asking for money, about mentioning their pricing, about charging more.

Let’s face it, as an entrepreneur – you can’t be this way at all. You have to find a way to get beyond your fears and potentially get outside your comfort zone so you can talk about money and actually MAKE more money!!

This week alone, money has come up in many ways:

  • I spoke with two money coaches this week who serve women
  • I spoke with 3 new clients about their money goals
  • I spoke with about 8 clients or members of my Int’l Entrepreneur Network and my Int’l Speaker Network who need to make more money and get clients pretty darn quickly and we gave them tips
  • I’ve had discussions with financial planners myself and a real estate investor about how they want to help others build wealth
  • I’ve heard from a couple clients who had great money-making weeks!

So much of what I do and speak about is about money.

You might not have this much talk about money in your day-to-day lives and it occurred to me that this is why I’m sooooo comfortable talking about my pricing, programs, asking for people to attend my events and buy my stuff… is that I’m always in the conversation.

How can you get more in the conversation around money on a more consistent basis too?

I swear on my life that this will be so helpful for you to do, I promise over time, you too will get so much more comfortable with the money conversation that you won’t feel sleezy or salesy anymore.

You have to sell though. You have to market. You have to make offers. You have to have sales conversations. You can’t hide from this or you aren’t going to be successful.

One of the things I’m SUPER GREAT AT is talking through the sales conversation with someone, one-on-one or in a group and giving you THE WORDS to use in YOUR conversations so you feel empowered, confident and assertive enough to enroll more clients into YOUR AMAZING PROGRAMS!

I want to help you make more sales easily and authentically so you can impact so many more with your gifts…

Let me give you an example from one of my live events:

One time I had a pet psychic attend my event and she was an extreme introvert (maybe some of you can relate). I love getting my hands on introverts, it’s so fun! So part of what we do at my events is CREATE & SELL what I call, Easy Yes Offers. We do this in the room and I help you do this so that everyone literally has something to sell (to the room). Then people stand up and give us their pitches, right on the spot and then I say, “ok who wants that offer?” and people raise their hands, the one who made the offer goes around and either collects the CASH or a credit card, they make the transaction ON THE SPOT mind you, and the person is usually FLOORED with the fact that they just made $300 or sometimes even $1,000!!

Yes so the pet psychic gal, wasn’t really participating, she was just listening and watching, and I was watching her. Then once a bunch of people had shared their offers and money was flying around, I asked her to stand up and share hers. She said a polite “no thanks, I don’t have one”. And I said “oh yes you do… I’ll bet over half the room has pets here and you can work virtually as well as in person right?”. She said “yes”. I said “Okay, stand up and let’s see, what could you offer…”, we brainstormed it out right there on the spot, she was happy with it and spit out the offer (reluctantly) and boy if like 5 or 6 people didn’t raise their hands immediately to buy it!! I bought it too!! From stage I handed her my credit card!!

Did she get outside her comfort zone? YES

Was it worth it? I’d say so, it paid for her ticket and travel to the event!

What was the REAL lesson here?

  • That you have to SHOW UP IN PERSON sometimes, you can’t always just sit behind your computer.
  • You don’t know what you don’t know… well, until someone shoves you outside your comfort zone or teaches you.
  • You have to just ACT. If she had said an absolute no to me and not stood up, she wouldn’t have learned that she had a great offer for ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at any event she ever goes to. She can make money daily after this experience. She wouldn’t have made a dime. She may have regretted it later too, kicking herself wondering why she just couldn’t take the leap in faith and let herself experience this.

What are YOU doing when it comes to experiences like this?

Do you sit and wait it out?

Do you say, well maybe later, not now?

Do you think, oh I can’t do that?

STOP IT! You’re slowing down and even sabotaging your own success. You deserve more and you deserve it now, not someday.

Technology – How it Affects Business Efficiency Increasing Cash Flow

As business owners we all know that marketing and sales are what we need to do to create or increase cash flow, right? It’s pretty common sense stuff when you think about it, but actually DOING it is a whole other story.  We’re all pressed for time, doing a million things and everything seems to come at us at a fast pace. Technology was supposed to HELP us get more done, and in most cases it does. But, it also complicates things, too.

I just did a presentation the other day about marketing… but it was more than just marketing, I started out talking about WHY we need to do a lot more marketing first and it all came down to……… TECHNOLOGY!

Technology is part of business and business efficiency increases cash flow.

Follow with me here for a minute….

With more forms of technology being used (email, SMS texting, video marketing, social media, robo-calling, etc…) information is hitting us from all directions at lightning speed. It turns into a vicious cycle. This huge increase in amount and speed of information is making it harder to get people to pay attention which means we (you and me) just have to do MORE marketing.

The days of just sending one email out to our list or doing one post or even a Facebook Live to generate leads is GONE. Plain gone. These activities are no where near enough to get anyone to pay attention to you or your message, much less take action to purchase our products or sign up for our course and events.

That means we have to do more.  If we don’t DO MORE…our sales will fall off and that cuts our cash flow.

But to do more it takes more time right?

Well, it definitely could… IF you’re not being efficient.

Systems Increase Efficiency and Efficiency Increases Cash Flow

This is one reason I focus so much on teaching you systems. Systems for lead generation, marketing, follow up, sales and even systems to manage clients, your business, your team and so much more.

It takes a little bit of effort and time to LEARN what systems you need, what software perhaps, or technology and then learn HOW to implement those systems so that your business efficiency increases cash flow.

FOR EXAMPLE:

For a great lead generation system online, you want to have:

  • A well written landing page with a good call to action, what will you give away for free? Something that your ideal client really wants (not just what you think they need).
  • An opt in box, some way to collect their email and name on that page is critical. Ideally, a form NOT generated from a plugin on your WordPress either because that isn’t hooked up to a system that can send auto replies. You want an email marketing software that makes you compliant and will send an auto email reply (we call that an autoresponder).
  • The autoresponder set up, maybe more than just one email in that series too, it can be multiple emails set to send by day – day 0, the day they opt in, possibly day 2 to make sure they went and listened or downloaded your freebie, day 5 to ask them to come to a call with you perhaps or take a next step, day 10 with a good piece of other content for education along with call to action, etc.
  • This system would also hopefully include a prompt for YOU to call them to follow up, a prompt for you to MAIL THEM something in the mail if you can get their phone number and email address either at the time of opt in OR in subsequent emails when you get them to sign up for a call or other fun thing… ask for MORE contact info at that time.
  • All of this almost can be automated. And there could be more to it… but we’d have to look at your whole business model and your goals to determine what else.

Last week I gave you FAST CASH tips on networking more effectively.  Today, my video tip is about making FAST CASH in your business by making more phone calls!

fast cash - make more phone callsI know, I know – you’re thinking “I don’t like to make cold calls!”.  I’m not talking about that.  I’m talking about WARM calling – Calling through your database.  These are people you’ve already met – those who are in your contact database.

Just pick up the phone to say hello!  Start an interactive conversation!  You have to have a reason to call them, of course and I’m giving you several examples in the video below.

This method WORKS!!  I know it does because I do it myself.  I don’t outsource these types of calls!  And yes, I know there are people out there who made these types of calls for a living.  I’ve found that people are more receptive when they get a call from me personally. Remember, the person you are calling may not have time to talk to you at the time they answer so always give them an out.  Listen to the video for additional tips about this too.

I have a client who was 73 years when she started working with me.  It took a year before she started calling through her database.  But when she finally started, she made a $2,500 sale on the 4th call!
