Talking About Money

When I’m talking about money, a catchy song from the 70s immediately comes to mind.
OMG do you remember that song….For the Love of Money? I had to ask Google… who sings the song with money, money, money, money…. MONEY in it… It was the OJays by the way! I didn’t even know the actual name of the song much less who sung it, fascinating… yet we can all sing along to that part, right!?

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what message you all could use today, what would serve you, what is top of mind with my clients right now and people I’ve met out networking, and they’re all talking about money in one way or another.

Hear me out…

You’ve heard the phrase: “Money is energy”, right? 

I also like:

I was just thinking that a lot of people I meet are fearful a bit about talking about money, about asking for money, about mentioning their pricing, about charging more.

Let’s face it, as an entrepreneur – you can’t be this way at all. You have to find a way to get beyond your fears and potentially get outside your comfort zone so you can talk about money and actually MAKE more money!!

This week alone, money has come up in many ways:

  • I spoke with two money coaches this week who serve women
  • I spoke with 3 new clients about their money goals
  • I spoke with about 8 clients or members of my Int’l Entrepreneur Network and my Int’l Speaker Network who need to make more money and get clients pretty darn quickly and we gave them tips
  • I’ve had discussions with financial planners myself and a real estate investor about how they want to help others build wealth
  • I’ve heard from a couple clients who had great money-making weeks!

So much of what I do and speak about is about money.

You might not have this much talk about money in your day-to-day lives and it occurred to me that this is why I’m sooooo comfortable talking about my pricing, programs, asking for people to attend my events and buy my stuff… is that I’m always in the conversation.

How can you get more in the conversation around money on a more consistent basis too?

I swear on my life that this will be so helpful for you to do, I promise over time, you too will get so much more comfortable with the money conversation that you won’t feel sleezy or salesy anymore.

You have to sell though. You have to market. You have to make offers. You have to have sales conversations. You can’t hide from this or you aren’t going to be successful.

One of the things I’m SUPER GREAT AT is talking through the sales conversation with someone, one-on-one or in a group and giving you THE WORDS to use in YOUR conversations so you feel empowered, confident and assertive enough to enroll more clients into YOUR AMAZING PROGRAMS!

I want to help you make more sales easily and authentically so you can impact so many more with your gifts…

Let me give you an example from one of my live events:

One time I had a pet psychic attend my event and she was an extreme introvert (maybe some of you can relate). I love getting my hands on introverts, it’s so fun! So part of what we do at my events is CREATE & SELL what I call, Easy Yes Offers. We do this in the room and I help you do this so that everyone literally has something to sell (to the room). Then people stand up and give us their pitches, right on the spot and then I say, “ok who wants that offer?” and people raise their hands, the one who made the offer goes around and either collects the CASH or a credit card, they make the transaction ON THE SPOT mind you, and the person is usually FLOORED with the fact that they just made $300 or sometimes even $1,000!!

Yes so the pet psychic gal, wasn’t really participating, she was just listening and watching, and I was watching her. Then once a bunch of people had shared their offers and money was flying around, I asked her to stand up and share hers. She said a polite “no thanks, I don’t have one”. And I said “oh yes you do… I’ll bet over half the room has pets here and you can work virtually as well as in person right?”. She said “yes”. I said “Okay, stand up and let’s see, what could you offer…”, we brainstormed it out right there on the spot, she was happy with it and spit out the offer (reluctantly) and boy if like 5 or 6 people didn’t raise their hands immediately to buy it!! I bought it too!! From stage I handed her my credit card!!

Did she get outside her comfort zone? YES

Was it worth it? I’d say so, it paid for her ticket and travel to the event!

What was the REAL lesson here?

  • That you have to SHOW UP IN PERSON sometimes, you can’t always just sit behind your computer.
  • You don’t know what you don’t know… well, until someone shoves you outside your comfort zone or teaches you.
  • You have to just ACT. If she had said an absolute no to me and not stood up, she wouldn’t have learned that she had a great offer for ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at any event she ever goes to. She can make money daily after this experience. She wouldn’t have made a dime. She may have regretted it later too, kicking herself wondering why she just couldn’t take the leap in faith and let herself experience this.

What are YOU doing when it comes to experiences like this?

Do you sit and wait it out?

Do you say, well maybe later, not now?

Do you think, oh I can’t do that?

STOP IT! You’re slowing down and even sabotaging your own success. You deserve more and you deserve it now, not someday.

Technology – How it Affects Business Efficiency Increasing Cash Flow

As business owners we all know that marketing and sales are what we need to do to create or increase cash flow, right? It’s pretty common sense stuff when you think about it, but actually DOING it is a whole other story.  We’re all pressed for time, doing a million things and everything seems to come at us at a fast pace. Technology was supposed to HELP us get more done, and in most cases it does. But, it also complicates things, too.

I just did a presentation the other day about marketing… but it was more than just marketing, I started out talking about WHY we need to do a lot more marketing first and it all came down to……… TECHNOLOGY!

Technology is part of business and business efficiency increases cash flow.

Follow with me here for a minute….

With more forms of technology being used (email, SMS texting, video marketing, social media, robo-calling, etc…) information is hitting us from all directions at lightning speed. It turns into a vicious cycle. This huge increase in amount and speed of information is making it harder to get people to pay attention which means we (you and me) just have to do MORE marketing.

The days of just sending one email out to our list or doing one post or even a Facebook Live to generate leads is GONE. Plain gone. These activities are no where near enough to get anyone to pay attention to you or your message, much less take action to purchase our products or sign up for our course and events.

That means we have to do more.  If we don’t DO MORE…our sales will fall off and that cuts our cash flow.

But to do more it takes more time right?

Well, it definitely could… IF you’re not being efficient.

Systems Increase Efficiency and Efficiency Increases Cash Flow

This is one reason I focus so much on teaching you systems. Systems for lead generation, marketing, follow up, sales and even systems to manage clients, your business, your team and so much more.

It takes a little bit of effort and time to LEARN what systems you need, what software perhaps, or technology and then learn HOW to implement those systems so that your business efficiency increases cash flow.

FOR EXAMPLE:

For a great lead generation system online, you want to have:

  • A well written landing page with a good call to action, what will you give away for free? Something that your ideal client really wants (not just what you think they need).
  • An opt in box, some way to collect their email and name on that page is critical. Ideally, a form NOT generated from a plugin on your WordPress either because that isn’t hooked up to a system that can send auto replies. You want an email marketing software that makes you compliant and will send an auto email reply (we call that an autoresponder).
  • The autoresponder set up, maybe more than just one email in that series too, it can be multiple emails set to send by day – day 0, the day they opt in, possibly day 2 to make sure they went and listened or downloaded your freebie, day 5 to ask them to come to a call with you perhaps or take a next step, day 10 with a good piece of other content for education along with call to action, etc.
  • This system would also hopefully include a prompt for YOU to call them to follow up, a prompt for you to MAIL THEM something in the mail if you can get their phone number and email address either at the time of opt in OR in subsequent emails when you get them to sign up for a call or other fun thing… ask for MORE contact info at that time.
  • All of this almost can be automated. And there could be more to it… but we’d have to look at your whole business model and your goals to determine what else.

I help clients with this stuff all the time you know… I’m not just about helping you with jumpstarting your business, marketing, website, sales, etc. I’m about helping you REDESIGNING YOUR BUSINESS TO FIT THE TYPE OF LIFESTYLE THAT YOU REALLY WANT.

This involves your life, your business, your relationships, your self-confidence, your technology and systems, your pricing and LITERALLY EVERYTHING that it takes to get you where you want to go.

Keep in mind that I’ve been helping entrepreneurs do all of this for 17 years now. I know a lot about a lot and I keep learning more myself too, we all have to or we’ll get stagnant.

It’s Official!! My hubby, Jason quit his job this week. He gave his JOB notice and his last day is in September! Granted, it’s about 4 months sooner than I was thinking he would and probably a year sooner than HE thought he would but living with an entrepreneur, the entrepreneur mindset kinda rubs off I guess! LOL (Isn’t he cute? What a ham, huh?)

He sees me working from home when he’s been out in this 105-degree weather for weeks now… that’s just ONE reason it’s sooner than later I’m sure… it’s really HOT. And working inside the air-conditioned house is very appealing.

Frustration Leads to an Entrepreneur Mindset

Over the last month, Jason has been getting more and more frustrated with his job – have you ever felt this way too? That frustration is key to shifting from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset. I know I have with a couple of my past JOBs. The lack of systems, support and leadership as well as the physical taxing work to his body. SOOOOOO, with my 1000% support of course, he gave his notice the other day.

“Yay!” I said, knowing that will greatly reduce some of his stress and anxiety and be a much better life choice for him. He deserves to be happy doing what he wants.

“I’m scared and excited” he said (something that everyone I know leaving their job or that jumps into a new business says). These feelings are so normal when shifting from having an employee mindset to and entrepreneur’s mindset.

It Always Works Out

Financial reasons are one of the main reasons people don’t leave their jobs sooner. For us, (and my main motto) is: it will all work out in the end. I also say, “no one is going to die if you quit, we’re not going to be homeless, there’s always a way to make it work”.

PLUS… There’s always a way to make more money!

That’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur. Problem is… some of you DON’T BELIEVE IT. You could create a new a program, product, event or service and sell it to make money right now. Yes, you could!!

There’s always a way for me and for YOU to make more money you know. You are NOT stuck with what is currently coming in for you if you’re running your own business.

Shift Your Mindset

You want to STOP THAT LIMITED THINKING and get creative and GET BUSY PROMOTING IT and talking to more people! You just may have to step up with MORE marketing, networking, follow up and sales is all but it’s totally possible no matter WHAT business you have.

After all, those are the foundational activities that keep your business a smooth-running, moneymaking machine!

Jason too, will hit the ground running once he finishes his last day mid-September. He’s locked and loaded and knows exactly what to do to start getting paid as a Voice Over Artist because he’s been doing a coaching program to teach him over the last 6 months. (Of course, he’s got me too which is very helpful.)

Crisis or Opportunity

Life Transitions however, can put a strain on any family or person if they are unexpected. (Even if they are somewhat expected too!)

So, what do you do to stay afloat and sane through it all?

What do you do to stay focused, clear-headed and motivated to see results quickly?

Whether it’s to find another job quickly, ramp up a business, get support for your health if it’s a health crisis, borrow money if it’s a financial crisis… you can choose to look at these things as a crisis OR opportunities. An entrepreneur mindset focuses on the OPPORTUNITY!

What do you do when life hits you? You know the type of hit I’m talking about…

  • An illness with you or a loved one
  • A defeat or failure in your career or business
  • A huge relationship break-up
  • Job loss for yourself or spouse
  • Death or loss of a person or pet
  • Big, unplanned move or home catastrophe

Of course we never expect or want these things to happen but most of them will happen, it’s just a matter of when and with who.

Do you just simply get back up and keep moving forward?

Does it shake you for a few days, a week, longer?

Do you get scared and go “hide”? (metaphorically or literally speaking)

Don’t get me wrong. Even with an entrepreneur mindset, you may still do those things from time to time, just not consistently.

Entrepreneur Mindset = Shift, Pivot and Grow

There’s a saying “how you do anything is how you do everything” in case you haven’t heard.

What’s going to help you shift your mindset from “EEEEK and OMG” to “It’s all going to work out in the end, let’s just see what we need to do.”?

I want to share some book publishing tips with you, regardless of how you think you want to publish, or when, check this out.  Hey friends, have you wanted to become a published author but haven’t taken the plunge yet in writing your own book?  When I got started writing books, I participated in a compilation book. It was much easier to just write one chapter and have someone else coordinate the publication of the entire book and whoala! I was a published author! Now I am in 6 compilation books and have two full books of my own – 4 of which are now International Best Sellers. I say this because becoming an author has “changed me” dramatically with my confidence, belief in myself and my abilities and it’s gotten me numerous opportunities for publicity and exposure as well over the last 13 years now that it’s been since I did the first one. Watch this video to learn time and money saving tips on how to do this before you enter into any contract or book writing endeavor.

Trust me! There are so many things to know about writing a book, especially if you plan to sell it and want to make any money with your book. Because the money will not come from the sales of the book most likely, it will come from other things you have in place in your business! One big tip when you’re writing a full book of your own is to WRITE THE BACK COVER COPY FIRST. My friend and book coach/mentor, Christine Kloser said this to me years ago and it stuck. It also makes great sense because your back cover is what gets people to want to BUY your book so you have to know what that “transformation” is that they will experience when reading your book. Start there and the rest will be easier. Do you want to have all the clients you can handle running to your door every month? Then become a published author, write multiple books and/or become an author in a compilation book where you just write one chapter for now if that’s all you can muster but get started now. Being an author has changed my life, up-leveled my confidence and opened a lot of doors for me. In 2018 I gathered 26 others to participate in a compilation book that I published, called Jumpstart Your _____, it went to International Best-Seller in 3 countries! I’m hosting one again this year and I’d LOVE to have some of you participate!!

Let me tell you about my WORST year in business 

Writing about my worst year in business is hard, because I’m better at talking about it. That’s why I made a video. It’s a story that I tell a lot at my live events. It was such a transformational year for me. I hope the lessons that I learned and share in this video will be helpful for you, too.

Do it anyway! Don’t be too busy to overlook something that can support you whether you’re struggling, thriving, overwhelmed or in a funk. Afterall, we all go through good times, so/so times and bad times while building our businesses. Sometimes learning how other people navigate the ups and downs can really help us learn what to do and not do when it’s our turn!

Hey everyone, here are some quick tips on how to successfully network INSIDE FACEBOOK GROUPS run by other people First of all, let me say that posting in other people’s groups and other pages and things on Facebook here is one of the main ways I engage with people. HOWEVER… I do it very strategically and NOT salesy. So many people (a few of you too have done this and I’ve private messaged you about it) will think that by joining groups like this one, it gives you the right to just post whatever you want whenever you want and that’s mot a good plan.

What to do when networking in Facebook groups

You first want to read the groups “rules” or description which is usually located on the right column and/or it’s often pinned to the top of the group as an announcement. That will give you some basic guidelines as to when certain posts might be allowed for example; promotions on Wednesdays, inspiration on Tuesdays, Tips on Fridays, etc. I would also recommend trying to ENGAGE in the COMMENTS of a post whenever you have something of value to add. It will make you look good in the light of the leader of that group because Facebook loves it when posts get comments, not just likes and hearts. I would refrain from posting salesy mentions about your products and services except maybe once in a while, and best to do this INSIDE THE COMMENTS if you’re able to help someone with your expertise when they ask for support or have a question about something.

Blatently posting ads and salesy posts can get you removed and you’re not making friends then, just enemies. Instead, offer to give free advice, answer questions, give examples and share stories on posts that your comments are encouraged. If people like what you have to say then “ideally” they will click on your profile name to find out more about you and/or private message you. As for private messaging people inside other people’s groups… there’s nothing wrong with doing that if you have a reason OR if you’re very careful about the wording that you use. Again, do not send a message to promote yourself, it’s like asking someone to go to third base with someone on a first date. NOT COOL.

Build relationships by networking in Facebook groups

Social media is all about connecting, building relationships, sharing other people’s info, standing out, getting visibility but in a good way so people perceive you as an expert and THEN that makes them want to know more. Social media marketing and connecting takes time sometimes, it’s not a wham bam thank you mam kind of place. Try offering to have a phone conversation with people to find out more about THEM… NOT to talk about you. Business will come if you do the right things in your marketing plain and simple. If you aren’t sure what to do exactly or what to say then ask for and seek help – you must or you may end up burning bridges and being that person no one wants to get to know.

Your thoughts on virtual trainings and courses

Recently I was prepping my materials and PowerPoint for my Speaker Success Bootcamp and it reminded me to ask you about virtual trainings and courses. Virtual trainings and courses can be the course YOU TAKE to help you learn how to run your business OR they can be the courses you OFFER for sale yourself.

  • Do you use virtual trainings and courses in your business? Host them?
  • Want to hold some?
  • Think you could make a lot more residual income if you offered virtual trainings and courses?
  • Do you attend virtual trainings and courses or buy them yourself?
  • All good questions right?

I think we all want to find some residual income streams, am I right? There’s some easy business models that fit the bill for this such as:

  • Affiliate Marketing (making money referring programs, products, systems and technology) – I make a few hundred dollars a month right now using affiliate marketing. Some of my friends make thousands each month; it’s a much bigger strategy for them.
  • Membership Programs (having people pay you a monthly fee to get recurring training or knowledge of some sort from you) – I’m inching up with my Int’l Entrepreneur Network now for this, at $7/month, you can make a nice bit of cash each month if you can get a few hundred people (or even a few thousand!). It’s not as easy as it sounds however.
  • Then there’s creating and running virtual trainings and courses, perhaps doing them over and over again live OR boxing them up into Home Study Programs or Courses after you do them live. I have a few of those and I’m actually thinking of bringing some LIVE trainings back this year and next year. Here’s a quick tip about creating virtual trainings and courses:

FIRST: Figure out which type of program will fit YOU, Your Lifestyle, Your Personality and Your Clients. That means, brainstorm about and determine if you should host an ongoing program, or what I call a “start/stop program” that has a specific start date and end date (could be more difficult to fill on time if you’re new to this). Do you want a short term (3-6 week) or longer term program (90 days)? Do you like the 30 day challenge model with daily interaction? The decision is yours however you want to decide carefully based on many factors:

  • How you like to deliver
  • How your clients like to attend or consume info
  • How likely it is that you have hot prospects
  • Price you want to charge
    • Will this be a lower priced offering to get people to “try you out” or a deeper, more comprehensive training farther down your “funnel” and more expensive?

Streamlining, systematizing and delegating more in your business can allow you more free time, vacation time and self-care or family time you know. It is possible, but you have to make time to implement these kinds of offers in your business.
