You see, sometimes we can just get to doing too much and it wears on us, ya feel me? We need to find ways to run and market our businesses that are a little easier, interested?

People think that I’m always working and doing too much…they wonder how I do all that I do!

I get it, it certainly looks like I work 24/7! Frankly, sometimes I do work too much and my body pays the price for that. Last weekend on the last day of my week-long trip (on my birthday), my legs sort of gave out. I had to get a healing treatment by a friend who was with me at the event to help me make it through. It seems the older I get, the less my body wants to take.

Do you ever feel like this?

Well, I have been taking steps to change things up a bit in my business and you can too if you want.

You know that “networking in person” is a very close second to being a speaker in regards to getting business quickly, right? They both make it easier for people to get to know you, feel your energy and like/trust/connect with you much FASTER. That means the people you meet in these situations move closer to being a customer or referral source FASTER than in other marketing and lead generation strategies, even social media. Networking in one way or another is what I’d recommend you spend your time doing the majority of the week if you’re really looking to gain more clients right now.

HOWEVER… I’ve found another way to “NETWORK” in this way and you don’t even have to leave your house! I travel a lot and I’m finding that if I can substitute this type of networking for some of my in person networking that I have to travel for, it takes less of a toll on my body, family, time and budget frankly. All around a win-win-win.

Yep, it’s on those Zoom Video Calls that I’ve been inviting you to for months now (even a couple years really if you include my Masterclasses I did in 2017 and 2018).

Please STOP AVOIDING THESE or thinking you don’t need to attend them.

First of all, what I’m talking about are NOT a typical webinar. A typical webinar is someone getting on and teaching you something, giving a presentation or a signature talk. Usually webinars also end with an offer of some sort. These are fine BUT you normally can’t “NETWORK” on a webinar.

I’m talking about a call that is held on Zoom, the video platform. Why Zoom? Because it’s the closest thing to an in person networking event that you can get – you can “see and feel” everyone’s energy. You can also “talk to each person” in the “chat room”, exchanging contact info, and even taking that relationship pretty quickly to a phone conversation with each other or at least an email exchange to begin the relationship building process.

These Zoom calls are especially good when everyone also gets a chance to introduce themselves first, sharing what you do! Then you can even be very specific why you want to connect with the others on the call.

I’m telling you, I’m attending or hosting about 6-8 of these calls per month right now – and getting paying clients from them pretty quickly! YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!!

You just have to know WHICH calls to get on so you’re maximizing your time – they are NOT all created equal. Plus some other “coaches” host them but do so for their own gain primarily and you don’t end up being able to communicate with others on the calls – watch for those types of calls, they are only there to sell you usually.

You have to be selective and I can share with you which will serve you best.

Are you wondering how to get WAY more PRODUCTIVE?

Are you tired or even exhausted trying to run your business and earn the money you deserve or find enough clients who will buy from you? 

Running a business can definitely be exhausting… especially if you’re trying to do a lot of the tasks that need to get done by yourself. Right?

I LOVE EFFICIENCY &

I HATE WASTING TIME.

How about you?

Wasting time to me is not the necessary downtime we all need like getting a massage or doing our own morning ritual and self-care… it’s instances such as:

  • Doing things over and over again that could instead be systematized or delegated.
  • Time spent looking for something that is lost because it wasn’t “organized” properly in the first place.
  • Missed appointments perhaps by me or the other party because someone wasn’t paying attention or didn’t schedule it in properly and in time and then moved on.
  • Getting caught up watching videos and reading things on social media when I’m supposed to be there for business purposes.
  • Not planning trips and travel or even local events strategically enough to maximize my time.

EFFICIENCY to me is:

  • Getting things done in the least amount of time with the least amount of effort.
  • Recognizing what needs “my brain” and what could be done by someone else (once they know how to do it or what’s needed to accomplish the task).
  • Knowing when to “let go” of doing something myself just because I can and instead hand it off to someone that I can train to do it over and over again freeing my time up for “the next thing”.
  • Utilizing certain technologies to do certain tasks to free up my time or to reduce the amount of time I spend on a task or project.
  • Being really organized with all things business or personal – such as:
    • Things are in their place in my home 99% of the time. (Granted, it’s not always super clean every day but things are put away so there is less chaos I have to work in since I work from home.)
    • My office and desk have things well organized and put away, maybe with ONE or two piles of to dos or paper but always striving to complete and toss or file, and I usually always leave my desk at night in order with my immediate to do list for the next day right on top.
    • On my computer, having file folders within folders and keeping track of everything from client documents and audio recordings in their own place as well as folders for things by topic like: Legal, Publicity, Vendors, Events, Artwork and more all easy to find at my fingertips. One of the things so many of my clients take forever to find is their graphics and artwork; I rarely see people organize this well (or even get their original artwork in the first place) and you must do this.
  • Being “ready in a pinch” to speak or exhibit and/or sell at a live event or networking meeting if the opportunity arises quickly. (This happens often and you have to be prepared and ready or you’ll miss out on potential clients, sales and huge opportunities.)

If this seems a bit OCD, I assure you it is not. I am not OCD, I am a VEOBO… Very Efficient, Organized Business Owner.

But how else do you think I get so much done every month?

There is no way I could do all the things I do, from hosting my live events, to traveling to conferences and speaking gigs, to managing calls with clients, networking events and launching new programs and services if I wasn’t so organized and efficient. And of course without my team… they are a big help.

I can show you HOW to get more organized and efficient in YOUR business also! Why? Because I know that by doing this you will be more PROFITABLE and probably very quickly in fact.

I urge you to figure out where the HOLES are in YOUR business or life and FIX THEM FAST. Your profitability is directly related to how efficient and organized you are in your business and life.

Otherwise 2019 could be yet another year you don’t achieve all your goals, don’t reach the income you want to reach, don’t allow yourself the time off you desire and deserve to take or even don’t see your family as much as you promised you would.

Why do you think I’m writing an email about how to get your emails opened? I’ll let you know if this worked.

I’m really not trying to trick you, I’m trying to see if you open or respond to this, knowing it must be a concern for you also.

So, what are we going to do about it?

I know what I’m NOT going to do.

I’m not going to STOP emailing you. I’m not going to stop sharing my thoughts, business advice, tips, and personal stories with you.

I’m not going to email you less in hopes that you open my emails then or more just to bug you. I’m going to email when I think there’s something of interest to share with you, something that can benefit you in your quest to growing your business, making a lot of money doing what you love!

I recommend you do not stop sending emails either.

  • Send them based on your life though – when you want to send them.
  • Send stuff that’s relevant to your ideal clients and community.
  • Tell stories and get personal with them, that’s what they want to hear anyway and what differentiates you from others who do what you do.
  • Stop worrying about how long the email has to be or what days or times to send them though. As you can probably tell there is no magic answer.
  • Just communicate, share, inspire, educate and relate. Period.
  • You don’t need fancy software, templates, designs or logos.

But you do need to be compliant these days or your email address, the actual address, could get blackballed and caught in people’s S**M filters. I don’t even want to write the word in here for fear of more walls going up.

So, what DO you do to get people to pay attention?

  • You get REALLY creative.
  • Give awesome value.
  • Be accessible. Did you know I read every single email that comes my way? Some people actually think I have an assistant who reads them – or writes these even! Nope, it’s all me. Good or bad I guess, it’s what’s on my mind and the minds of my clients. That’s what I try to bring to you.

Finally, have fun with it!

Pretend like you’re writing to your favorite client, yes, just them. See what happens!

Just please also make sure you’re doing various other things in your marketing and follow up to keep in touch with your clients and those you meet – like phone calls, connecting on social media sites AND sending stuff in the US mail (yes, I said the mail – it’s a must these days)! Give me your address on one of my forms and you’ll see what I send! 😉

The Big Question to Ask Yourself

This is a question I ask my clients, event attendees and even the audience from stage or a podcast interview.

What if… something happened in your life that forced you to be unable to work in your business for a couple weeks, how about a couple months?

What if… you could only work part time instead of all the time?

What would happen to your income, your clients, your business?

Would your business be able to sustain itself? Would the marketing and sales continue? Would things get done that need to get done so that you could pay your bills?

If you have a good team of people, it’s possible that you might be ok. Luckily I’ve built in at least a good enough team of assistants to make sure the marketing is still running, the communication can still go out to clients and my community and someone can step in and get a lot of things done if need be.

But it wasn’t always that way. I’ve been alone in my business before too, luckily not a lot of “life stuff” happened during those years.

All the unfortunate things that have happened to me that have caused me to lose time working and/or could have affected my earning potential, have happened when I already had the team and the systems in place.

But this is one of the biggest mistakes I see entrepreneurs making… they don’t prepare for the “WHAT IF” soon enough.

You never know when:

  • Someone in your life will get ill, hurt or die and YOU have to step in to help them or the situation.
  • YOU might have something go wrong and need help or be “out for the count” so to speak.
  • Unexpected career changes happen
  • Life happens – birth, fall, death

Just today in fact, I’m shocked by two pretty young souls who were taken from us (or left). One pretty prominent guy here in the city I live in just committed suicide this past weekend, not sure what day, but Jason saw it on Facebook and he knew the guy. I feel so bad for his family. Then today I found out a friend of mine in LA died from cancer late yesterday, she was so young. I just posted a pic of us on my Facebook… Isn’t it crazy?

You just never know. Life happens. Death happens. Crazy crap happens too.

You have to be prepared in your business with the right funnels, marketing, systems and team, you just have to be.

I LOVE helping people with these things and getting you all organized, set up and systematized, more automated and super clear on what you’re doing so you don’t have to stress in case something (anything) happens around you.

Do you struggle with sales or selling?

I’m not perfect at it but I think I’ve been pretty successful at it over the last 33 years and all the different jobs I’ve held as well as with my own business.

How did I learn initially about sales and selling?

I think, being an only child craving attention, helped to form my strategic negotiating skills.

Then in my first handful of jobs, Ice Cream Scooper at Thrifty’s, Sales Associate in a clothing store in the mall and as a waitress in various restaurants, it was about the sell up or add on sale as well as building relationships.

I learned early on the power of the “like, trust, connect factor”.

College helped more with shaping my “consistent, stick-to-it habits”, having to stay consistent with my classes and studies in order to pass, which is a must in sales.

Then after college came a few paid sales trainings, either in the corporate hiring process or just on my own with Zig Ziglar and Brian Tracy cassettes leading the pack.

I learned to get really good at the consultative sales approach and talking though objections as they called it then. (Some people now call that “Dancing with Concerns”.) Basically, you learn as much as you can about your customer, find out what their biggest challenges or struggles are, and then figure out how you can solve them.

This approach still works today. Many of you are probably doing this to a certain extent now, however the marketplace has shifted over just the last 5 years or so and even just since January of this year.

Do you feel the shift?

It’s not just about:

  • Prospecting
  • Following up
  • Consulting and
  • Closing anymore

It’s more about:

  • Attracting community
  • Giving, Giving, Giving
  • Sharing, Sharing, Sharing
  • Nurturing and relating
  • Inviting to join/buy/become a part of/experience
  • Striving for referrals back to the community

You still need the basic sales skills however:

  • Negotiating
  • Dancing with concerns
  • Offering or Introducing upsells, addons
  • Showing massive value that you bring/offer
  • Consultative conversations, videos, tutorials
  • Ability and courage to ask for the sale/make offers and invitations when appropriate
  • Problem solving
  • Listening
  • Confidence to charge your worth
  • Persistent and consistent follow through and follow up – this last one is soooo important!
  • You just may want to present some of these skills in a different manner is all.

It’s possible that some of your ideal clients have been “sold to” before in good or not-so-good or friendly ways and they could be gun-shy.

Maybe that’s been true for a few of you regarding me? It’s ok, I get it. Just like I hope though that your ideal clients let go of that when it comes to hiring YOU so they can get the support they need from you. I hope you can let go of that and TRUST ME to help and support you. Because I get where you are, what you’re going through, where you want to be and most importantly, why you’re not there yet.

By the way, it’s not being salesy if you continue asking someone if they would be interested or if you don’t immediately stop a sales conversation once someone gives their first ‘no’. You could be stopping too soon and enabling them to stay “in their story”.

If you are truly here to help those you serve with your gifts and talents then you have to be persistent and confident in your approach. You can’t back down just because YOU are uncomfortable. Often times we do have to push people out of their comfort zone so they can start believing in themselves.

In addition, you also often have to help your potential clients “find money” to hire you or buy from you. That means, asking about their finances and giving them ideas for ways they CAN invest with you rather than letting them get off with saying “I can’t afford it”. Many people use that as an excuse to get you off the phone when they just don’t see the VALUE yet, don’t TRUST you yet or haven’t felt like you can truly solve their problem yet.

Getting really good at the “SALES CONVERSATION” is a critical skill that all entrepreneurs must learn, I don’t care what business or industry you are in. There is NO way around learning this and becoming better at sales.

Just like it’s easy for you to see exactly what YOUR ideal clients need, I’m extremely good at helping you figure out:

CREATE BULLET LISTS:

  • Your exact next steps
  • Your blocks
  • Solutions to your challenges
  • The WORDS you can use to do better in sales conversations, marketing and more

This is why one of the best things I’ve found over the last 6 or so years that you can do to attract and connect with more of your ideal clients is to have an option for them to “TRY YOU OUT”.

Some people are skeptical and want to make sure first a few things about you such as:

  • What you say is true
  • You do deliver
  • You walk your talk
  • You’ll “get them”
  • They can trust you
  • Do you have a “TRY ME OUT” option? Is it working? If you don’t have one or you do and it’s not working, it might need a little tweaking to be more of what your people want. OH, and your “TRY ME OUT” option is not always a call with you by the way… some people consider that way too much (on a first date).

A little tweaking can make a big difference. You may have to test a few approaches out. But I’m going to caution you here because when I was in advertising sales for the local newspaper, a business couldn’t just run an ad one day or one week and get massive results. They needed more frequency. And even now, you can’t just NOT DO a marketing strategy because YOU don’t like it, you have to do what works.

For example, if you don’t like it when people call you, email you or send you stuff in the mail, that doesn’t mean you can decide NOT to do those things when marketing your business. In fact, all of these three strategies are pretty critical still. You just have to do them in a way that works for you and your ideal clients.
