Hi everyone,

Boy am I glad my whirlwind of trips is over (for pictures check out my Facebook). Can you believe I did nothing but sit on my couch with my honey this last Sunday ALL DAY watching TV, movies and recorded shows we wanted to catch up on? I know, I don’t do that very often but it was soooooo nice to unplug like that and just veg. Can you relate?

Then of course, it was time to hit the ground running with FOLLOW UP this week and the implementing of everything I want to change and do from all the events I went to or spoke at. In fact I blocked 3 separate times on my calendar to do just these things. Do you do that? I recommend you try…

This week’s video tip is all about Getting More Time Back or technically….clearing space. One of the main things I work with my coaching clients on is their time management, what to focus on, how to manage their time, etc. BECAUSE….if you don’t create more space or time for yourself you won’t have the time to do the additional marketing strategies that you desperately need to do to grow your business! I know you’re already wayyyyy tooooooo busy right? Of course you are, there isn’t any entrepreneur that isn’t too busy already.

BUT….ARE YOU BUSY WITH THE RIGHT ACTIVITIES AND TASKS? Probably not always.

With the half way mark of 2013 just a few weeks away, I know that many of you are looking at ways to finally jumpstart your business into high gear.

Speaking in front of an audience is often intimidating or scary. Some of us are more comfortable with it than others.

Selling from the stage or in front of a room to a group is a different story though. You may be comfortable speaking and giving great content but are you making an offer or leading the audience to buy something or take an action of any kind?

Often times we don’t do these things during our talks because we aren’t allowed to of course depending on the venue and type of event. But other times we are allowed to sell but still don’t or we just don’t do a very good job at it for one reason or another.

Typically people who try to sell from the stage but aren’t quite sure what to do will:

  • Fumble over the closing not knowing how to incorporate what they’re selling into what they spoke about.
  • Not leave enough time at the end, not having practiced their talk to make sure they had time to close at the end effectively.
  • Just mention the thing they wanted to sell but not really encourage or ask the audience to take action and come to the back of the room to sign up now.
  • Or they’ll do all of the above. You’ve seen it happen I’m sure even if you haven’t done it before….

Here are 3 super easy sales strategies that you can use in your next presentation that don’t even sound or look that salesy to do:

  1. Seeding: This means to weave in wording around what it is you’re going to sell throughout your talk so they know it’s something that you do have to offer.
  2. Telling: Tell people up front that you’ll give them as much as you can around the topic today but then you’ll share more on how they can take it farther at the end of your talk. This way they expect you to share an offer with them.
  3. Storytelling: Share stories of clients and their successes or results throughout your talk too, preferably to enhance your points that you’re discussing. Make sure to share not just a customer testimonial but share their problem, why they came to you, briefly what you did with them and then what the result was that the client achieved from doing that.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to incorporate into your own presentations and makes it more comfortable for you to make an offer. There are a lot more ways to enhance your presentations of course for better deliverability, better results and more engagement with your audience, but this will get you started.

Do you ever wonder how so many people go to an event and go home with dozens of business cards or contact information and you manage to just end up with a couple business cards to follow up on?

There are a few ways to gather more people’s contact information at live events without being cheesy or salesy in the process which is what I know most of you are worried about coming off as. This applies to you if you’re just an attendee at an event or if you’re the speaker or exhibitor.

3 Ways to Capture Contact Info at Live Events:

  1. Hold a free drawing and tell people about it either from the stage or in casual conversation. Make whatever it is that you’re giving away a digital product that you can easily email later so you don’t have to carry around a big gift basket if you don’t have a display table. Remember to tell them that everyone who enters will receive your free email newsletter.
  2. Give a free gift in person such as a free tip sheet of valuable advice on how to do something, one of your products if it doesn’t cost you a lot or a free recording on CD of you teaching or explaining something most people want to know. In exchange, remember to tell them they will receive your free email newsletter.
  3. Run a text message marketing campaign giving something of value when they go opt in via text and their phone. Then you can continue to capture more and more information from there plus give them other tips in a subscription manner via text as well.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to go get more networking contacts this week. Remember, gathering more contact information allows you more people to follow up with and more potential prospects to have in your funnel that lead to eventually more sales.

Have you noticed how some small businesses say they get a ton of referrals or they work by referral only?

Ever wonder why the referrals aren’t pouring in from your happy clients and customers like that too?

After all, you are the best-kept secret in your industry right? Well, let’s not stay that way at least…let’s get you in front of more prospects and referral sources every month.

3 things I’ve seen, one or more of which that could be the reason that you’re not receiving more referrals in your small business are:

 

  1. You’re not ASKING for them. You do need to actively ask your current clients and vendors or people who love you and your work even to give you referrals. They could just be too busy to think about giving them freely but would if you just stopped to ask.
  2. You’re not making it very EASY for them to give you a referral. You’d think that they would just call you, email you or connect you in some way with people they know could use your products or services if in fact they loved working with you. BUT that doesn’t happen usually because they may not know what to say or HOW to best introduce you. Make it easy for them to refer you by writing something they can forward in an email or something they can read on a voice mail to someone. Try giving them a printed handout, flyer or letter that they can give out on your behalf. I even go to the extent of creating special web pages on my website just for referrals from specific people.
  3. You don’t have enough referral source prospects. Make a list. Think about all the types of businesses, professionals, industries and associations in addition to individuals you know that would be a good fit to refer business to you. Those can be people or companies you already know or ones you don’t know. For the ones you don’t know you want to build a marketing campaign to reach out to them, build a relationship with them to see how you can support each other. This list then becomes your referral source prospect list for direct mail, phone calls, social media connecting and in some cases emailing.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to go get more referrals this week.

Remember though, referral source marketing is one of the three types of marketing. Generally you need to do marketing activities within each category to maximize your potential: Referral Source Marketing, New Business Marketing and Database Marketing.

I haven’t written much yet on my blog about my personal life and what’s going on with me. Unless you’re subscribed to my weekly ezine “JumpStart Your Biz Tips” (which you can sign up for to the right I might add –>) or watching me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/katrinasawa) then you may not know that recently the love of my life decided to end our relationship, and pretty abruptly I might add.

It was a huge shock for me as I did believe everything was ‘all good’. Thank goodness I had a couple assistants working with me and many systems in my business that kept the business going like nothing happened or it would have taken a little halt due to me being emotionally upset for a few weeks.

This is the main reason why your personal life can affect your business – due to if you become sad, have an illness, endure a tragedy or even go on vacation; you need to make sure your business can literally run without you (at least for the basics, marketing, follow up, and sales).
