Talking About Money

When I’m talking about money, a catchy song from the 70s immediately comes to mind.
OMG do you remember that song….For the Love of Money? I had to ask Google… who sings the song with money, money, money, money…. MONEY in it… It was the OJays by the way! I didn’t even know the actual name of the song much less who sung it, fascinating… yet we can all sing along to that part, right!?

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what message you all could use today, what would serve you, what is top of mind with my clients right now and people I’ve met out networking, and they’re all talking about money in one way or another.

Hear me out…

You’ve heard the phrase: “Money is energy”, right? 

I also like:

I was just thinking that a lot of people I meet are fearful a bit about talking about money, about asking for money, about mentioning their pricing, about charging more.

Let’s face it, as an entrepreneur – you can’t be this way at all. You have to find a way to get beyond your fears and potentially get outside your comfort zone so you can talk about money and actually MAKE more money!!

This week alone, money has come up in many ways:

  • I spoke with two money coaches this week who serve women
  • I spoke with 3 new clients about their money goals
  • I spoke with about 8 clients or members of my Int’l Entrepreneur Network and my Int’l Speaker Network who need to make more money and get clients pretty darn quickly and we gave them tips
  • I’ve had discussions with financial planners myself and a real estate investor about how they want to help others build wealth
  • I’ve heard from a couple clients who had great money-making weeks!

So much of what I do and speak about is about money.

You might not have this much talk about money in your day-to-day lives and it occurred to me that this is why I’m sooooo comfortable talking about my pricing, programs, asking for people to attend my events and buy my stuff… is that I’m always in the conversation.

How can you get more in the conversation around money on a more consistent basis too?

I swear on my life that this will be so helpful for you to do, I promise over time, you too will get so much more comfortable with the money conversation that you won’t feel sleezy or salesy anymore.

You have to sell though. You have to market. You have to make offers. You have to have sales conversations. You can’t hide from this or you aren’t going to be successful.

One of the things I’m SUPER GREAT AT is talking through the sales conversation with someone, one-on-one or in a group and giving you THE WORDS to use in YOUR conversations so you feel empowered, confident and assertive enough to enroll more clients into YOUR AMAZING PROGRAMS!

I want to help you make more sales easily and authentically so you can impact so many more with your gifts…

Let me give you an example from one of my live events:

One time I had a pet psychic attend my event and she was an extreme introvert (maybe some of you can relate). I love getting my hands on introverts, it’s so fun! So part of what we do at my events is CREATE & SELL what I call, Easy Yes Offers. We do this in the room and I help you do this so that everyone literally has something to sell (to the room). Then people stand up and give us their pitches, right on the spot and then I say, “ok who wants that offer?” and people raise their hands, the one who made the offer goes around and either collects the CASH or a credit card, they make the transaction ON THE SPOT mind you, and the person is usually FLOORED with the fact that they just made $300 or sometimes even $1,000!!

Yes so the pet psychic gal, wasn’t really participating, she was just listening and watching, and I was watching her. Then once a bunch of people had shared their offers and money was flying around, I asked her to stand up and share hers. She said a polite “no thanks, I don’t have one”. And I said “oh yes you do… I’ll bet over half the room has pets here and you can work virtually as well as in person right?”. She said “yes”. I said “Okay, stand up and let’s see, what could you offer…”, we brainstormed it out right there on the spot, she was happy with it and spit out the offer (reluctantly) and boy if like 5 or 6 people didn’t raise their hands immediately to buy it!! I bought it too!! From stage I handed her my credit card!!

Did she get outside her comfort zone? YES

Was it worth it? I’d say so, it paid for her ticket and travel to the event!

What was the REAL lesson here?

  • That you have to SHOW UP IN PERSON sometimes, you can’t always just sit behind your computer.
  • You don’t know what you don’t know… well, until someone shoves you outside your comfort zone or teaches you.
  • You have to just ACT. If she had said an absolute no to me and not stood up, she wouldn’t have learned that she had a great offer for ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at any event she ever goes to. She can make money daily after this experience. She wouldn’t have made a dime. She may have regretted it later too, kicking herself wondering why she just couldn’t take the leap in faith and let herself experience this.

What are YOU doing when it comes to experiences like this?

Do you sit and wait it out?

Do you say, well maybe later, not now?

Do you think, oh I can’t do that?

STOP IT! You’re slowing down and even sabotaging your own success. You deserve more and you deserve it now, not someday.

It’s Official!! My hubby, Jason quit his job this week. He gave his JOB notice and his last day is in September! Granted, it’s about 4 months sooner than I was thinking he would and probably a year sooner than HE thought he would but living with an entrepreneur, the entrepreneur mindset kinda rubs off I guess! LOL (Isn’t he cute? What a ham, huh?)

He sees me working from home when he’s been out in this 105-degree weather for weeks now… that’s just ONE reason it’s sooner than later I’m sure… it’s really HOT. And working inside the air-conditioned house is very appealing.

Frustration Leads to an Entrepreneur Mindset

Over the last month, Jason has been getting more and more frustrated with his job – have you ever felt this way too? That frustration is key to shifting from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset. I know I have with a couple of my past JOBs. The lack of systems, support and leadership as well as the physical taxing work to his body. SOOOOOO, with my 1000% support of course, he gave his notice the other day.

“Yay!” I said, knowing that will greatly reduce some of his stress and anxiety and be a much better life choice for him. He deserves to be happy doing what he wants.

“I’m scared and excited” he said (something that everyone I know leaving their job or that jumps into a new business says). These feelings are so normal when shifting from having an employee mindset to and entrepreneur’s mindset.

It Always Works Out

Financial reasons are one of the main reasons people don’t leave their jobs sooner. For us, (and my main motto) is: it will all work out in the end. I also say, “no one is going to die if you quit, we’re not going to be homeless, there’s always a way to make it work”.

PLUS… There’s always a way to make more money!

That’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur. Problem is… some of you DON’T BELIEVE IT. You could create a new a program, product, event or service and sell it to make money right now. Yes, you could!!

And so that is what I just did too! See the Technology Training Workshop Series below (or here) for more info! I also had 4 new authors join the Jumpstart Your _____, Volume II compilation book in the last couple weeks. And I could even offer some additional 1on1 calls right now too… SO CAN YOU!

There’s always a way for me and for YOU to make more money you know. You are NOT stuck with what is currently coming in for you if you’re running your own business.

You are definitely not stuck with just what’s in your bank account today.

Shift Your Mindset

You want to STOP THAT LIMITED THINKING and get creative and GET BUSY PROMOTING IT and talking to more people! You just may have to step up with MORE marketing, networking, follow up and sales is all but it’s totally possible no matter WHAT business you have.

After all, those are the foundational activities that keep your business a smooth-running, moneymaking machine!

Jason too, will hit the ground running once he finishes his last day mid-September. He’s locked and loaded and knows exactly what to do to start getting paid as a Voice Over Artist because he’s been doing a coaching program to teach him over the last 6 months. (Of course, he’s got me too which is very helpful.)

Crisis or Opportunity

Life Transitions however, can put a strain on any family or person if they are unexpected. (Even if they are somewhat expected too!)

So, what do you do to stay afloat and sane through it all?

What do you do to stay focused, clear-headed and motivated to see results quickly?

Whether it’s to find another job quickly, ramp up a business, get support for your health if it’s a health crisis, borrow money if it’s a financial crisis… you can choose to look at these things as a crisis OR opportunities. An entrepreneur mindset focuses on the OPPORTUNITY!

What do you do when life hits you? You know the type of hit I’m talking about…

  • An illness with you or a loved one
  • A defeat or failure in your career or business
  • A huge relationship break-up
  • Job loss for yourself or spouse
  • Death or loss of a person or pet
  • Big, unplanned move or home catastrophe

Of course we never expect or want these things to happen but most of them will happen, it’s just a matter of when and with who.

Do you just simply get back up and keep moving forward?

Does it shake you for a few days, a week, longer?

Do you get scared and go “hide”? (metaphorically or literally speaking)

Don’t get me wrong. Even with an entrepreneur mindset, you may still do those things from time to time, just not consistently.

Entrepreneur Mindset = Shift, Pivot and Grow

There’s a saying “how you do anything is how you do everything” in case you haven’t heard.

What’s going to help you shift your mindset from “EEEEK and OMG” to “It’s all going to work out in the end, let’s just see what we need to do.”?

I help clients with this stuff all the time you know… I’m not just about helping you with jumpstarting your business, marketing, website, sales, etc. I’m about helping you REDESIGNING YOUR BUSINESS TO FIT THE TYPE OF LIFESTYLE THAT YOU REALLY WANT.

Michele PW effective emailsI thought you might enjoy this Guest blog post about creating effective email that is by my friend Michele PW, who is a copywriting expert and author:

In today’s world—the world of building businesses online—most entrepreneurs understand that building an email list is extremely important.  An email list is one of the best ways to build your business because it gives you the opportunity to connect with potential buyers on a personal, authentic level.

Done right, an email list can supercharge your business results.

But (you knew that was coming, right?) an effective email is only as effective as your open and click-through rates.

If nobody’s opening your emails, and nobody’s clicking on the links you put in them, then your email list is not actually working to build your business.

And that can be discouraging.

It takes lots of time, energy, mental power, and money to build a list and to write content regularly.

So today, I’m going to share six of my favorite tips for writing an effective email that connects and converts.

Tip 1. Make Sure Your Emails Are Mobile-Friendly.

I know. It sounds pretty obvious. Also, emails not being mobile-friendly doesn’t really sound like a deal-breaker, right? Wrong.

Here’s the thing: an increasing number of studies and statistics show that a growing number of people use phones and tablets to shop (not computers). In fact, one of the reports I read said that up to 70% of sales happen on phones or tablets.

If your emails look “off” or load improperly and aren’t easy to read, your readers are going to click “delete,” period.

So here are some mobile-friendly-related considerations to make as you create and compose your emails:

Whether to use a banner. Recently, I’ve noticed that entrepreneurs see better conversion rates when they do not use a banner.

The user experience: technically. People reading on teeny tiny mobile devices are more likely to skim than people who read on computers. Make it easy for people to consume your emails by incorporating white space, shorter paragraphs, and shorter sentences.

The user experience: emotionally. Be sure to think about how your subscribers feel when they get your email. They’re living, breathing, busy people, so give them something worthwhile.

Tip 2. Make Your Emails Easy-to-Read and Understand.

As I mentioned above, your ideal prospects are likely skimming your email. That being said, is it easy for them to follow what you’re saying? Are you using words they quickly and easily understand?

Are you making them think too hard?

Of course, I’m not saying you should “dumb down” your message. But you should also be sure to use language that your ideal prospects use (not jargon from your industry).

On another note, be crystal clear about which action you want your readers to take. Set links apart so readers know exactly where to click. If it’s not crystal clear, your readers likely won’t take action at all.

One of my favorite tips for creating a crystal clear call to action is to start with the end in mind. Before you even start writing the email, be clear in your own mind about which action you want readers to take—whether it’s to enroll in your new course, buy your book, or read your newest blog post.

Building your email that call to action is a great way to make sure you’ve just created an effective email. And don’t forget to keep it simple!

Tip 3. Connect with Your Ideal Prospects.

Your community is unique. It’s important to ensure you are connecting with the members of your community on a personal level.

Here are a couple of examples:

I’m on a list where the business owner writes very long emails a few times each week. To be honest, although I’m seeing better conversion rates with shorter emails, this entrepreneur’s emails are entertaining—a great mix of content and stories from his life.

And, they always include some kind of offer at the end.

I’d typically caution entrepreneurs against sending out too many sales emails, but this particular business owner has it nailed: I am certain he gets a lot of email opens and a lot of click-throughs because his emails are informative and entertaining!

One of my clients has had a great response from shorter, punchier emails that have a kind of “hook.” She’s often directing people to read her blog posts, and she makes her emails short and sweet and to the point. Although this effort is the opposite of the one I explained in the first example, it works!

It’s all about knowing what your ideal prospects want from you.

Tip 4. Make Your Emails Personal.

The reason email works so well is that it is personal by nature. Your communication is like a letter to each of your community members. So when you’re writing an email, pretend you’re writing a letter to one specific person. When you master this, each of your ideal prospects will feel like you’ve written specifically to him or her.

When they get the sense that you’ve taken the time and energy to focus on them and write something that matters to them, they’ll reward you by opening and reading your emails.

Tip 5. Write Great Subject Lines.

Think about it: when you’re looking at that long list of emails in your inbox, you’re filtering: deciding which ones you’ll trash immediately, which ones you’ll read later, and which ones you’ll read right away. How do you make those decisions? You look at the subject lines. So, what makes subject lines great, or effective?

Being specific. If you have a deadline coming up, or a webinar showing on a certain date, include that in your subject line.

Being a little “off-the-wall” or invoking curiosity. Some examples are, “Winter is coming,” or, “It worked … kind of.”

Mixing it up. If, in most cases, you write straightforward subject lines, try throwing in a few “off-the-wall” subject lines every few emails. Or, if you typically write mysterious subject lines, throw in a few straightforward subject lines here and there. This may help you cut through the email clutter.

Tip 6. Write Powerful PS’s.

Did you know that it’s extremely common for a reader to skip from the top of an email straight to the PS? In fact, the PS is known to be the second-most-commonly-read element in an email (behind the subject line). So this is “hot real estate” in your emails! There are several different ways to write a powerful PS — to get you started, I’ve included a few email writing tips below:

Address an objection. The most common objections people have when buying your product or service are time and money. They’re not sure whether they can afford the time or financial investment. So, think about what you can say to overcome those objections.

Share one of your clients’ real-life success stories. Whether you summarize the story in your own words, or insert a quote from one of your clients, this is a powerful way to illustrate that you’re helping people get great results.

Position the reader’s choice about whether to invest with you as a choice to remain in their current situation, or to move forward and get the results you can provide them.

Recap a juicy benefit of the product or service you’re selling. For example, set it up as an “imagine” statement: “Imagine finally knowing exactly what to do when it comes to your marketing, rather than feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of what to do, when.”

In Conclusion …

I think the best part about writing effective emails is that it’s fun! It’s fun to be yourself, share with your community, and build relationships that thrive as your business does.

Is your Funnel working as it should?  Is it generating enough interest to generate the leads you need?  If you are struggling to create an effective sales funnel because you don’t know how to start constructing it, this post and video are definitely for you!

This post and the video are designed for entrepreneurs, small business owners, independent contractors and anyone who needs to meet a lot of people and build relationships in order to promote and increase your business. Because marketing these days is useless without working at building the relationships with your clients, prospects, referral sources and contacts. Making offers is a key component to building those relationships. You can do this if you’re a speaker or doing a speaking presentation or not.

So What’s in your funnel? What are YOU Selling?

Here are 5 Levels of What (could and should be) in Your Marketing or Product Funnel Plus What IS a Funnel?

1. The “Freebie” – what are you giving away on your website or in person so you can capture people’s contact information so that you can continue to market to them? You’ve GOT to do this one for sure and it doesn’t have to be a FREE consultation! Try to give something away that your target market will definitely want but it doesn’t have to take your time, make it more automated instead.

2. The “Easy Yes Offer” or “Try Me Out” Offer – This is your low-level offering. Can you record a free CD, write an ebook, offer a webinar, prepare an ecourse? These are all lower level products or programs that you can create once then sell over and over again taking no more time (time being the key word on a low-level offering). Easy Yes Offers can also be your time if the goal is to have conversations with prospects in order to have them connect and trust you to enroll in higher end programs. You can give and receive a lot of value in consults where you charge a small introductory fee.

3. The “Do-It-Yourself” – This is the larger, more beefy product offering that people can buy and work through at their own pace. It could be your signature service packaged into a home study kit for example like I plan on doing with my Love and Money Business Summit and that I’ve already done with my JumpStart Your Marketing(TM) System.

4. The “I’m All In” – This is for very interested and committed prospects who want more of YOU. They want to get your advice personally maybe or work with you 1on1, come to an event or even pay you for your high end programs or services. There are fewer people who will commit to these types of offerings however if priced right, you don’t need that many, nor can you usually handle that many.

5. The “Whole Enchilada” – This is for the type of customer who simply LOVES YOU and loves what you do, teach or sell and will buy anything and everything you offer or promote. They are your ‘ideal client’, I’d imagine.

Finally you have to practice, test and practice and test, over and over again and different audiences might require different easy yes offers. You may have to alter them, change them and revise them along the way. You’ll know when you have that easy yes offer, people will be throwing cash or their credit cards in your face or orders will come in like crazy online!

What I’ve found over the last 15 years of business coaching with thousands of entrepreneurs is that most of us have invested in the WRONG thing every once in a while and don’t get what we need.

Unfortunately that’s pretty normal. It sucks but it happens!

The key is to pick yourself back up from that, don’t get jaded and go invest in the NEXT THING!  Hopefully this time, the thing that will really help you with what you need to do NEXT, RIGHT NOW.

One of the things I’m really good at is helping entrepreneurs like YOU determine what IS your next move. What you DO NEED to do next to grow your business.

They don’t just call me the Jumpstart Your Biz Coach for nothing you know… I know how to laser in and focus on what is the single most important for YOU to be spending your time on right now to get you to create a smooth-running, moneymaking business. Plain and simple.

I don’t recommend any ONE thing to all however, it’s not a cookie cutter approach. I’m not going to tell everyone to do THIS xyz thing, because that doesn’t work.

You NEED A CUSTOM APPROACH and plan.

I can help you with that but you have to get over the fact that you need to yet again… invest in yourself and your business.

You have to know that you will ALWAYS have to continue investing in yourself and your business. There is no way to do and learn all there is to do and learn on your own for free; it’s not possible, even with youtube. 😉

I recently shared this broadcast on Facebook Live about Pricing for Profits. The intent of this broadcast was to share some great content about Pricing your Products, Services, and Programs with my guest, Carrie Greene of Carrie Greene Coaching. Carrie was ready to join us but, due to technical difficulties on my part, was unable to log into the broadcast. We’ll try to reschedule soon, hopefully April.

And yes, you’ll quickly notice that I’m sick when you start viewing this video but I’m sharing a lot of valuable tips and strategies here about Pricing your Products, Services and Programs. So I’m encouraging you to stay tuned!

Let’s dive right into Strategy!

First, I recommend you offer a variety of products or services with different levels of pricing.

Let me explain:

You should have a “low-end”, Easy YES offer. This is something that is so good that people say YES & pay you on the spot! Your offer must be crystal clear and it’s best if it’s priced under $100. Depending on the what you are offering, the price could be under $200.   The point of the Easy YES offer is to give prospects a way to try you out, to try out what you are offering and to see what it’s like to work with you.

You should have additional offerings (products, programs, or services) with price points higher than your Easy YES offer and lower than your “high-end” Program or Services.

You also need to create a Signature Product, Program, or Service if you don’t already have one. This is something you’ve created and it’s easily relatable to your Brand.

So are you charging what you are WORTH? Is there a Mindset issue that blocking you from raising your rates so you can continue to offer value to your clients while charging what you are really worth? You can structure your programs, services and your prices – It’s Your Business.

To recap, there are several steps that go into Pricing your Products,, Programs, and Services so YOU can make a profit. From brainstorming about ways to deliver the program or product you’re creating, and what is included in the offer to determining the value, what you will charge and how you will sell it.

And finally, there are Sales Conversations that you’ll need to have and Sales Conversations is a topic that I LOVE to coach my clients on for example, what to do, what to say, and navigating objections that WILL come up.

I recently had a discussion with The Vibrant Visionary, Audra Grady, about Hosting Your Own Live Events and what it really takes to create, host and lead successful events in your business!

As many of you know, I love hosting the smaller live events where I can really connect with my audience. My audience gets to see more of me and get more from me. Audra also shared what she sees as benefits for this style of events too.

There are a couple of really great business reasons to host your own events and we discuss them in this broadcast. There’s a common misconception that you can make a lot of money off of the ticket sales, which is not the norm. Audra and I discuss what you need to do to make your live event a success without losing money.

This can be a lucrative business model, if you already have your programs in place. But I’ve find that many entrepreneurs really need some training before they start the process of planning their events.

There are many moving parts when you decide you are going to host live events. Tune into the broadcast to learn:

    • The single most important thing you want to do BEFORE you plan your event.
    • What’s possible but also what’s probable for the number of people you may attract.

Do you have a passion and you just can’t seem to make sense of it or get any traction developing it into a business so you can impact a lot more people?

I have a HUGE PASSION that I would bet many of you weren’t even aware of…

It’s to get everyone I know into LOVING RELATIONSHIPS with themselves and their significant others (or find them one). Honestly, no joke.

You see, it’s NOT just about business for me, not at all…and if you have read my book (Love Yourself Successful) you of course know that but if you haven’t…

I’m all about LOVE. I want everyone on this planet to have so much love for themselves that they can literally go after what they really want without hesitation.

I want everyone on this planet to be fully in love with their perfect scenario of a significant other – someone that over the top supports, loves and cherishes them.

You know why?

Because I know that when that happens… what will this world look like?

Yep… a much better place to live, work, raise our children, and because LOVE is what really matters.

I can’t stand to see people who are longing for love. I just want to help them find someone and help them see how amazing THEY are too!

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that LOVE inspires ATTRACTION. Which means that when you have more love in your life… the money follows, the clients follow, the ideas and collaborations follow, doors open up, the Universe acts. It’s amazing….

Now originally I was writing this email to share about another online show that I’m a guest on and I want to do that with you but I’m at a 3-day conference right now in San Diego as I write this and something has shifted for me (in me)… I had this thought that “wow, my followers, subscribers, friends and some of my actual clients just may not be that aware of how important it is for me to see you/them in love and embracing LOVE in your life and your business too.”

So I felt compelled to throw out the “swipe copy” from the gal running this online show to share this with you instead, I hope it’s helpful.

This is me sharing what I totally believe to be true for running and growing a business and life of your dreams in this day and age.

A business that is a smooth-running, consistent, revenue generating machine that is… what other kind of business would you want to spend your time creating anyway?

In order to do this, there are a few MUSTS it has got to revolve around:

  1. Your PASSION for one
  2. Your BIG VISION for what you really want to create/do/be
  3. LOVE for yourself to know you deserve that
  4. DETERMINATION to not stop yourself from doing whatever it takes to get it
  5. An OPEN MIND to be able to see course corrections along the way
  6. A LEARNER’S HEART to be open to learning the things you don’t know or can’t see
  7. And finally ACCOUNTABILITY… if you don’t have someone (or multiple someones) in your corner cheering you on, giving you advice and showing you how…. it may not work.
