This was me about 9 years ago…

I was all “DOING”. That’s all I focused on in my life, my business, etc., it was whatever I could DO to get to the next level, be happy, to get clients, get myself out there more…. DOING, DOING, DOING….  what could I DO to get to the 6-figure mark in my business was my biggest goal in 2008 and it had been for a couple years but I was stuck, I couldn’t get beyond the plateau I was at financially. It was driving me crazy and it was very frustrating too because I was literally DOING everything everyone told me to do to market myself, follow up; more than probably many of you are doing now even.

It wasn’t until I hired this one business, money, mindset coach… I had hired him because he was emphatically confident that he could help me make more money, he could help me reach to and exceed the 6-figure mark. Ok, so I invested $25,000 that year with him and his mastermind and I went to every call, live event, and meeting; I was “all in”.

Funny thing though is that what we worked on all that year was not the marketing, sales or business tactics that I thought we would. Instead, it was the mindset, limiting beliefs, confidence, blocks, fears and frustrations that came up that all of us had to tackle, including me.

I went to my meetings hopeful and was left distraught, angry, defeated.  I didn’t understand what my coach and everyone in the group was trying to tell me back then. When I asked “what do I need to DO to get more clients and build my business to 6-figures”? They would simply answer, “Just BE Katrina”, “Just BE LOVE”.

“WHAT?????” I would remark back with utter frustration and disbelief, crying at the thought that I still had no idea HOW I would get there, what I needed to DO.

Being a good student, I did “try” to go to events and “just BE”. I tried to wrap my “doing brain” around what that meant and what I needed to DO to just BE (LOL). Somehow, some way, I started making strides towards this and I almost didn’t recognize it when things shifted for me. It basically happened on a subconscious level, I would go to conferences and other meetings or events that year or even get on calls with prospects and I would prepare myself right before with the words such as: “Ok Katrina, just BE who these people need you to be, be open, be willing to speak to them, be willing to share, be love energy” and then I would walk in. I wouldn’t use my normal “marketing talk or commercial”, I would ask more questions and just listen. WHOA! What a difference it started to make!

When I did this, the perfect prospects started coming up to me and sitting next to me at lunch. They would remark how easy it was to talk with me and how I made them feel safe and heard. I even had some sign up for my high-end programs at other people’s live events – to the tune of $40,000 for one client! I was shocked this was working and frankly looking back on it now, I didn’t know at the time that it was working. It wasn’t until the year ended and I went to go pull my sales revenue for the year and I had hit $110,000!!

Not only that but I had found a new love interest too after being divorced and single again for 3 years. I had found LOVE & MONEY at the end of that torturous year I call it. This was the key to my success!

Now, keeping this up over the years was a practice of course as you can imagine. It can be easy to revert back to the DOING from the BEING, especially if you’re in fight or flight mode with too many bills, or difficult situations. It was a constant struggle and still to this day I often have to give myself that “PEP TALK” before walking into an event or a phone call. But it is easier and I’ve been able to maintain and grow my revenues every year since then.

This year is where the concepts of my book, Love Yourself Successful, and my events with the Love & Money  theme came from. THIS stuff is the key to many of my clients’ success stories because I saw in them, what I was doing and now knew how to help them make the shift or get more balance between the DOING and the BEING.

There is no magic pill or ONE thing that you can do to jump from $30K per year to a $Million, I don’t care who tells you there is, there isn’t. This is why I do what I do. This is why I hold amazing, transformational and informative live events, online trainings, coaching and why I share so much on social media, record video tips, write articles in my newsletter and on my blog…. It’s to educate, motivate and inspire more people who need this message, more people who want to make a bigger impact but aren’t sure how to do that, more people who want to make a great living doing what they love but aren’t sure how. I teach massive amounts of the DOING along with a side of BEING.

I am so passionate about this topic: scheduling time off in your business…. you want to know why?

haleakala-katandjasonBecause I didn’t do this for the longest time. I didn’t take a real vacation for years in my starter marriage or in my business….is that ridiculous or what?

Hopefully you don’t need this reminder but I’ll bet there are many more of you like me than not. And vacations don’t mean you have to spend a ton of cash. If you’re on a limited budget or you don’t even have a budget for “fun or vacations” just yet that doesn’t mean you can’t make more money to PUT them into the budget.

Don’t limit yourself. Give yourself something to look forward to for all the hard work you’re putting in. Don’t get burned out or ignore your loved ones. You can do it!!!

My big goals are usually my big money goals for the year – and they are all calculated. What do I mean by that? I determine how many speaking gigs I want for the year, how many people I want at my programs and live events and so on. Think about your BIG GOALS as the number of people you want to serve for the year – then you can easily break those down to monthly goals, weekly goals, and so on.

The thing I love most about Vision Boards is that they are so inspiring! I keep mine where I see it most every day along with pictures of my events, my mastermind group, and other important things going on in my life. I love mentoring and training people so I use those things to inspire me. The point is for you to use things, graphics, pictures of the things you love and love to do to inspire YOU!

Also, a great source of inspiration is your office space. You need a nurturing office space that reminds you daily of what you LOVE. I encourage you to do what you can to configure your office space to INSPIRE YOU! My office design is structured to best inspire me. One of the biggest things I see with entrepreneurs soon after the first of the year is that they typically get into a business funk. They set lofty goals maybe in January that still aren’t really coming to fruition or they’ve already backed out of the resolutions they’ve set and for whatever reason get into a funk about business stuff or personal (which in turn affects their business too).

Some of the things that can put us into that funk include:

  • Realizing that what we’re doing to grow our business isn’t working
  • Having negative people around you and saying unsupportive things
  • Not having the funds to invest in or do the things you KNOW you need to do
  • Just plain NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO

I did a little poll on Facebook recently along with asked some friends, peers and clients: “What do you do when you get in a funk?”

“And what do you do to snap yourself out of it?”

Here are 20 ways I found or that came up in that poll that could help you when that FUNK hits you too:

  1. Pray
  2. Say some positive affirmations
  3. Read a chapter in an inspirational book
  4. Get out into nature
  5. Pamper yourself with a massage or pedicure
  6. Call a supportive friend, peer or mentor
  7. Read thank you notes, letters and cards
  8. Review the testimonials of your clients on your website
  9. Watch an inspirational video on YouTube
  10. Shift your plans or appointments for the day and go do something fun or play instead
  11. Get to a networking event to socialize and brainstorm with others
  12. Set a NEW goal and take some action towards it
  13. Get hugs
  14. Exercise
  15. Nurture yourself on the inside
  16. Take a nap
  17. Wallow in it all for a little bit – set a timer for just how long and feel it
  18. Get a caffeine fix
  19. Straighten your office, get organized
  20. Watch a funny movie

Do you like making resolutions every year? What about money goals – do you make them? Hit them?

I personally am not a big fan of resolutions. Every time in the past where I’ve set them, I’ve never seemed to actually accomplish them, especially when they had to do with dieting or weight loss. I do however, see results from and accomplish most of my goals that I set every year (personal or business).

So instead of resolutions if you’ve not had that much luck with them in the past either, let’s set some clear, actionable and realistic goals (especially MONEY GOALS!) for yourself and your business?

 

I believe in optimistic, stretch goals but also realistic goals. I’ve had a few mentors in the past suggest I set these huge lofty revenue goals for my business, I’m talking a million dollars or more, when I wasn’t even yet making one hundred thousand. Now that’s ridiculous in my mind. It’s not that a million dollar business isn’t doable but when you aren’t even to the first biggest milestone yet of $100,000, it’s so far from realistic that of course 99.9% of people would fail.

One thing you can do to help you figure out just how much money you could potentially make or bring in this coming year is to crunch the numbers. This is one of the FIRST THINGS I do with a new coaching client. We figure out what they want to or are selling and for how much, then we forecast so-to-speak how many of each they can potentially sell, etc. to see what “number” could be at the end of the year IF they do all the right marketing, sales conversations and other things that will be necessary for them to get there. (That stuff is the hard part.)

What I mean by crunching the numbers is that you start out by identifying all the different things you sell and for how much. For example, do you sell a $47 ebook, a 6 week group program for $297 and one-on-one coaching for $400/month, a $497 live event? That’s just an example of a coaching business with a few various options of products and services.

Another example is say of a professional organizer or other service professional who sells monthly services on retainer say for $200/month for 1-3 hours or a VIP Day or weekend for say $2000. Or percentage of book of business, whatever it is that you sell, you should be able to somewhat plot out what you could make.

Take a look at realistically how many of each of these you could sell each month based on what you sell now plus what you could sell if you marketed yourself a whole lot more and much more consistently. Could you double the number of sales every month? Plus could you raise your rates on what you’re already doing? Many business owners could. If so, add all those sales up, raise your rates, crunch the numbers and see what you get?

There’s a little more to this of course because you could be adding a new service or product this year and you aren’t sure how it will sell yet. You could be writing a book and expect to receive a lot more opportunities to get in front of audiences while speaking about it which you know will lead to sales. There are so many opportunities for increased revenues that could be right in front of your face but because you’re so close to your business it’s just hard to see.

When it comes to setting your BIG Money Goals for the year, here are 9 questions to ask yourself first:

  1. Crunch the numbers – what can you sell and how many each month?
  2. What else will you be adding to your product line / sales funnel to factor in for revenue?
  3. Where will you have some huge opportunities for huge exposure to factor in for lead generation?
  4. What did you do last year in revenue and was that working at 100% capacity?
  5. Is there room for growth and much more marketing to bring in massive amounts of more leads (if you knew how and what exactly to do?)?
  6. Could you revise some of your offerings so you are bringing in revenue in multiple ways?
  7. Can you stretch a little farther than your original goals to get yourself a little outside your comfort zone?
  8. Can you raise your rates or stop offering discounts and offer bonuses instead to keep more of the revenue?
  9. Are your goals realistic yet stretched and optimistic?

Finally, one of the things I always like to remind my clients when they get a little depressed about not reaching ALL their goals all the time…. You want to celebrate your accomplishments always. Every milestone you reach or goal you achieve is cause for celebration and reward. Make sure you keep track of what you DO accomplish, you’ll be surprised!
