Oct 22, 5:30 pm PST – Kat is co-hosting the Women Speakers Association LIVE Meetup in Sacramento for the first of what will be monthly events in the area. This month’s meeting will be held at the Momo Lounge on J St.; there will be a no host bar and everyone will be able to purchase food too. The goal of this event is to support local speakers and budding speakers with resources, networking, connections and more locally and internationally via the WSA website and benefits. Boy am I glad my whirlwind of trips is over (for pictures check out my Facebook). Can you believe I did nothing but sit on my couch with my honey this last Sunday ALL DAY watching TV, movies and recorded shows we wanted to catch up on? I know, I don’t do that very often but it was soooooo nice to unplug like that and just veg. Can you relate?
Then of course, it was time to hit the ground running with FOLLOW UP this week and the implementing of everything I want to change and do from all the events I went to or spoke at. In fact I blocked 3 separate times on my calendar to do just these things. Do you do that? I recommend you try…
This week’s video tip is all about Getting More Time Back or technically….clearing space. One of the main things I work with my coaching clients on is their time management, what to focus on, how to manage their time, etc. BECAUSE….if you don’t create more space or time for yourself you won’t have the time to do the additional marketing strategies that you desperately need to do to grow your business! I know you’re already wayyyyy tooooooo busy right? Of course you are, there isn’t any entrepreneur that isn’t too busy already.
BUT….ARE YOU BUSY WITH THE RIGHT ACTIVITIES AND TASKS? Probably not always.

As a seasoned networker who built my multiple six figure coaching business initially by networking and follow up, I had to learn how to meet as many people as possible in order to have more leads to develop each month. Ten years ago when I started my business I attended an average of 14 networking events every month.
While the follow up of all the leads you get at such events is a crucial component of making this work, without enough leads to follow up on, you’ll basically get nowhere fast.
Therefore, here are a few key tips on how to make the most of your time at your next networking event – Working the Room!
1. Be Prepared: Go with a goal of how many connections you want to make for leads and referral sources. Carry enough business cards. Have an enticing special offer or freebie someone can agree to receive from you when they agree to be signed up for your email list. You don’t need to have the free gifts on hand as long as you can email it later. If you do carry a free gift with you, you may get more leads however. I like to give out audio recordings on CD’s, free checklists for marketing strategies or little promotional products that people will use, not boring ones like pens and paper.
2. Work It Baby: Try not to spend more than five minutes with any one person. If you get someone who goes on and on and on you want to break in and interrupt them and ask them what types of people they wanted to meet here tonight. When they indicate who they would like to meet, glance around the room to find someone to introduce them to and pass them off. The goal is to get other people’s business cards. Giving out yours is not as important because you can always follow up and send them one. Plus when you ask for others’ cards and you ask more questions of them, they tend to like, trust and connect with you better. Don’t talk a lot about yourself.
3. Get Results: Always keep in mind who you’re looking to meet and when you run into them, ask if they’d like to talk with you later and get to know each other. Set an appointment right then, grab their card and move on. Don’t try to have a long-winded or in-depth “get-to-know-you” conversation in the middle of a networking event. Schedlue those for later and make as many as you can. In addition to booking follow up appointments whenever possible, you want to get verbal agreements to add people to your email list so that you can continue to market and follow up with them after the event.
