Technology – How it Affects Business Efficiency Increasing Cash Flow

As business owners we all know that marketing and sales are what we need to do to create or increase cash flow, right? It’s pretty common sense stuff when you think about it, but actually DOING it is a whole other story.  We’re all pressed for time, doing a million things and everything seems to come at us at a fast pace. Technology was supposed to HELP us get more done, and in most cases it does. But, it also complicates things, too.

I just did a presentation the other day about marketing… but it was more than just marketing, I started out talking about WHY we need to do a lot more marketing first and it all came down to……… TECHNOLOGY!

Technology is part of business and business efficiency increases cash flow.

Follow with me here for a minute….

With more forms of technology being used (email, SMS texting, video marketing, social media, robo-calling, etc…) information is hitting us from all directions at lightning speed. It turns into a vicious cycle. This huge increase in amount and speed of information is making it harder to get people to pay attention which means we (you and me) just have to do MORE marketing.

The days of just sending one email out to our list or doing one post or even a Facebook Live to generate leads is GONE. Plain gone. These activities are no where near enough to get anyone to pay attention to you or your message, much less take action to purchase our products or sign up for our course and events.

That means we have to do more.  If we don’t DO MORE…our sales will fall off and that cuts our cash flow.

But to do more it takes more time right?

Well, it definitely could… IF you’re not being efficient.

Systems Increase Efficiency and Efficiency Increases Cash Flow

This is one reason I focus so much on teaching you systems. Systems for lead generation, marketing, follow up, sales and even systems to manage clients, your business, your team and so much more.

It takes a little bit of effort and time to LEARN what systems you need, what software perhaps, or technology and then learn HOW to implement those systems so that your business efficiency increases cash flow.


For a great lead generation system online, you want to have:

  • A well written landing page with a good call to action, what will you give away for free? Something that your ideal client really wants (not just what you think they need).
  • An opt in box, some way to collect their email and name on that page is critical. Ideally, a form NOT generated from a plugin on your WordPress either because that isn’t hooked up to a system that can send auto replies. You want an email marketing software that makes you compliant and will send an auto email reply (we call that an autoresponder).
  • The autoresponder set up, maybe more than just one email in that series too, it can be multiple emails set to send by day – day 0, the day they opt in, possibly day 2 to make sure they went and listened or downloaded your freebie, day 5 to ask them to come to a call with you perhaps or take a next step, day 10 with a good piece of other content for education along with call to action, etc.
  • This system would also hopefully include a prompt for YOU to call them to follow up, a prompt for you to MAIL THEM something in the mail if you can get their phone number and email address either at the time of opt in OR in subsequent emails when you get them to sign up for a call or other fun thing… ask for MORE contact info at that time.
  • All of this almost can be automated. And there could be more to it… but we’d have to look at your whole business model and your goals to determine what else.

I can’t tell you how many entrepreneurs (or those who want to start up their own business) I see or speak to every week who don’t know enough about TECHNOLOGY.

The technology in your biz is what I’m referring to. Of course you may know how to use your cell phone, apps, ipad or computer…. But do you really know the best software for your business?

We need software and certain systems to support us, help us to be more efficient, help our customers and prospects get information from us while we’re sleeping and just overall make our life easier.

My goal though is always to find the most affordable solutions for you – not show you the next trendy gadget or software! It may not be what you need.
Besides when you switch from one system to another often you take time away from really building your business. I don’t always recommend getting in on the “newest fad” of a system! I personally like to wait to make sure it sticks around (because many don’t).

Technology is something that is a very specific thing I would need to discuss with you privately about however because there are literally TOO MANY OPTIONS to choose from. And boy oh boy can you definitely choose the WRONG ONE if you’re not careful.

I hate to see that happen to people. I want your systems and software (if you need it) to be simple to use, learn, update, and delegate frankly.

There are so many choices for systems out there and sometimes it can be hard to choose one.

Bottom Line: You can get by with very little cost if you are just starting out, as little as less than $50 per month.

Are there systems that make your life easier? Of course there are, but they usually have a cost that comes with that convenience.

Kathy and I LOVE our tech. We love checking out new tools and systems and see if they are as good as they claim themselves to be.

One of the most recent ones we have looked at is ClickFunnels (CFs). What I will say is, if you just want a simple page builder solution, there are cheaper ones out there.

What is CFs good for then? It does simplify creating a sales funnel and taking payments. If you don’t mind paying $97 a month for that, then CFs is good for you.

Be aware though, that at the $97 plan you are limited to 20 funnels and 100 pages (funnel steps).

They claim to be an all-in-one solution and they are definitely NOT!

If you have the full Etison Suite at $297 per month, you also get access to Actionetics for email and Backpack to create your affiliate program as well as unlimited funnels and pages.

Sounds like an all-in-one solution, doesn’t it? However, what they don’t tell you:

  • You need an SMTP service to deliver emails (paid service)
  • If you want to do SMS, you have to purchase Twilio (paid service)
  • If you want to be notified when someone opts in or buys – good luck cause the in funnel system doesn’t work properly

Those are just a small example of the issues with CF.

There is no live support to call.

There is no communication with their clients (YOU) when known issues come about that have a direct effect on YOUR business.

I could go on and on but I think you get the idea.

Do we still recommend CFs? Sometimes we do. We do not recommend the full suite to anyone unless they have a big budget, simply because it allows for unlimited funnels.

It is also a good solution for a page builder for those who have ZERO tech skills.

I can say it IS the best page design solution I have seen. You can easily create, edit and use beautiful sales pages.

What it IS NOT is an all-in-one solution.

Is there such a thing, you may be asking? Maybe. We are looking into a few other tools out there and will let you know what we find.

Ready to get back to business?

Our kiddo is back in school and things seem to be chugging along again… got to finally go camping WITH Jason and Riley last weekend in Yosemite rather than just seeing photos of their nature excursions. That was nice…. although I was reminded of how nice hotels are. LOL (that’s me in the very background relaxing… our dog Willow and Riley), what a great spot right?

So yes, I have been traveling quite a bit this year and sometimes I get FOMO, do you?
FOMO = Fear of Missing Out
I get that when I’m not home and missing my family and other get-togethers and I get it when there’s a fun event that I didn’t get to attend too, both give me FOMO. But you can’t be everywhere all the time right?
I’m trying to get back on an emailing schedule though, I dropped back a little bit because I’ve been switching shopping carts, email marketing systems and entire backend database systems in my company. When you switch these kind of systems though there can always be some tech issues which I’ve had plenty of. But thankfully I have AN AWESOME techy team!!
Most issues have now been resolved and I’m grateful for having the technology and Internet access to HAVE issues with! Can you imagine what it would be like without these things now that we’re so used to having them?

I’m back from my five day speaking tour in Dallas, and today, I want to share some ideas with you about creating content.  Generating content is a topic that is many of my clients and a few in my Mastermind Group are currently struggling with.  I’ve gotten many questions about creating content in the past week.

First, you HAVE to do MORE content marketing.  Some common objections I hear about generating content are:

  • There is a lot of content in the world already.
  • Someone may have already written something on a topic that you want to write about.
  • You may have concerns that people may not care to hear what you have to say on the subject.
  • Someone else knows more about the topic than you do.

 Creating Content in Your MarketingHere are my Tips to Create More Content

  • Overcome Your Objections: Don’t let fear that your content isn’t good enough hold you back from generating more content. Remember, there are billions of people on the planet and you only have to attract a small portion of that entire population to have them hear your message and buy from you.  Some people don’t realize that they can find content on the Internet, YouTube, Facebook, blogs, etc.  And some people may like your content more than others.  There will be enough people who will like what you have to say.
  • RePurpose Your Content – everywhere and in many different ways. If you write an article, post it on your website’s blog and have it scheduled to post on your social media sites, post it on LinkedIn Pulse,  create a video about it – just like I’m doing here.   You can also post your video to your blog on your website and on your social media sites.  There are many ways to have just one piece of content touch many in a variety of different ways.

Video Biz Tip: Ideas for Creating Content in Your Marketing!

If you are struggling to come up with content topics, I recommend you develop a list with the top 12 topics that would make sense for you to talk about. For example, if you are in the Beauty Industry, your topics might include: skincare, chemicals in products, hairstyles, etc.   Got it?  Now take each of your top 12 topics and break down each topic into 3-5 sub-topics because your main topic might be too broad to use. Sometimes you’ll be able to break down your sub-topics include 3-5 additional sub-topics.  This method will give you more options to create content about.

You don’t have to write all of your content.  You can record yourself talking about it and have it transcribed.  Once you edit the transcription, it becomes a form of written content.  I hope this gets your juices flowing and get your content ideas going.

In my quick video tip today, I want to share with you my Secrets to Creating Virtual Programs That Sell ~ hosting your own virtual programs.  These are Group programs, they can be done via phone, video or webinar.

secrets to create your virtual programsThis was a big topic of interest with many of the members of my Live Big Mastermind group at our retreat a couple of weeks ago. Many of the questions were around converting one-on-one programs and local programs to a virtual program so they can reach more people globally.  They wanted to know how to change from trading dollars for hours and move beyond just serving people locally.

So here are my tips to creating those Virtual Programs:

  1. MindsetGet Over Your Over- Thinking – you may think that what you have to offer is just not good enough or compelling enough.  Or you may be thinking it won’t serve the needs of people when created virtually. Get Over It.  Unless you are a hands on practitioner, you CAN do create a great virtual program.  Case in point, I have a client who is a piano teacher and they produce learning videos.  You don’t have to necessarily provide services in person these days.  You just have to get comfortable creating virtual programs.  It will save you time and freedom in your schedule and allow you more leverage in paid opportunities.  Simply stated – make more money in a shorter amount of time!
  2. Technology – don’t let the fear of learning a new technology hold you back.  Figure out what you need to learn.  Technology has advanced and is more user friendly.
  3. Knowledge of How to Create your Program – start with your Signature System.  Do you take people through a process or modules that you use to teach or coach people?  You may need some help brainstorming with someone to pull out the information to create your Signature System.  Then you design the Program around it.

The bottom line is this – You can make more money in a different way in a different business model if you’ll just start.  Don’t make excuses – forget “it’s just not the right time”, don’t wait until next year.
