Technology – How it Affects Business Efficiency Increasing Cash Flow

As business owners we all know that marketing and sales are what we need to do to create or increase cash flow, right? It’s pretty common sense stuff when you think about it, but actually DOING it is a whole other story.  We’re all pressed for time, doing a million things and everything seems to come at us at a fast pace. Technology was supposed to HELP us get more done, and in most cases it does. But, it also complicates things, too.

I just did a presentation the other day about marketing… but it was more than just marketing, I started out talking about WHY we need to do a lot more marketing first and it all came down to……… TECHNOLOGY!

Technology is part of business and business efficiency increases cash flow.

Follow with me here for a minute….

With more forms of technology being used (email, SMS texting, video marketing, social media, robo-calling, etc…) information is hitting us from all directions at lightning speed. It turns into a vicious cycle. This huge increase in amount and speed of information is making it harder to get people to pay attention which means we (you and me) just have to do MORE marketing.

The days of just sending one email out to our list or doing one post or even a Facebook Live to generate leads is GONE. Plain gone. These activities are no where near enough to get anyone to pay attention to you or your message, much less take action to purchase our products or sign up for our course and events.

That means we have to do more.  If we don’t DO MORE…our sales will fall off and that cuts our cash flow.

But to do more it takes more time right?

Well, it definitely could… IF you’re not being efficient.

Systems Increase Efficiency and Efficiency Increases Cash Flow

This is one reason I focus so much on teaching you systems. Systems for lead generation, marketing, follow up, sales and even systems to manage clients, your business, your team and so much more.

It takes a little bit of effort and time to LEARN what systems you need, what software perhaps, or technology and then learn HOW to implement those systems so that your business efficiency increases cash flow.

FOR EXAMPLE:

For a great lead generation system online, you want to have:

  • A well written landing page with a good call to action, what will you give away for free? Something that your ideal client really wants (not just what you think they need).
  • An opt in box, some way to collect their email and name on that page is critical. Ideally, a form NOT generated from a plugin on your WordPress either because that isn’t hooked up to a system that can send auto replies. You want an email marketing software that makes you compliant and will send an auto email reply (we call that an autoresponder).
  • The autoresponder set up, maybe more than just one email in that series too, it can be multiple emails set to send by day – day 0, the day they opt in, possibly day 2 to make sure they went and listened or downloaded your freebie, day 5 to ask them to come to a call with you perhaps or take a next step, day 10 with a good piece of other content for education along with call to action, etc.
  • This system would also hopefully include a prompt for YOU to call them to follow up, a prompt for you to MAIL THEM something in the mail if you can get their phone number and email address either at the time of opt in OR in subsequent emails when you get them to sign up for a call or other fun thing… ask for MORE contact info at that time.
  • All of this almost can be automated. And there could be more to it… but we’d have to look at your whole business model and your goals to determine what else.

The subject of what to delegate to an Assistant or Virtual Assistant was a topic that several members of my Live Big Mastermind wanted to discuss with me recently.  The topic came up again during our bi-weekly group call in my Mastermind this week.

It appears to be a HOT topic, so I thought I should be sharing some tips about it with you today!   I’m also including a juicy FREE resource at this end of this video so make sure you pick that up while you are here.  And now, here are my Tips:

What Types of Tasks Should You Delegate to an Assistant

when & how to delegate to an assistant or VAYou have to figure out the types of tasks you need to delegate first.  For example, do you need someone to do technology-type tasks?  If you do, they will need to have experience doing those types of tasks which is very different from someone you might hire to make phone calls for you to generate leads, follow up with leads, book speaking gigs and things like that.   Once you’ve determined your types of tasks, you may find that you need more than just one person – you may need multiple people who can perform different types of tasks.

Most people need at least two people when they start out.  You don’t pay more, you just split the time that you are paying for between the two people.  You also have to find out what types of tasks the person is experienced doing and what they love to do before hiring them.  Interviewing prospective virtual assistants is KEY to making sure you get someone who is really good at the type of task you need them to do.

Why do I delegate in the first place?  Because I love taking a three day weekend with my family, going to events, and I like not having to worry about what’s been done when I’m away at speaking events.  My team takes care of those things for me.  Wouldn’t you like this kind of freedom?  Delegating allows me to take a real vacation where I’m not working while on the beach.  It also allows me to do more to reach more people so I can make more money!!!  And You Can Too!

This year I plan on doing the opposite of what a lot of business owners are doing. I plan on simplifying my business. 

You see, a couple years ago I was trying to grow my business and a mentor told me to create this new product and this new program and this new service. And after a year or so of doing all of that and pretty much launching something new every other month or so, what do you think happened?

You’d think I would have made oodles and oodles more money, but sadly, that did not happen. The revenue came in small chunks and because I had so many different ways to buy or different ways to learn (i.e.: products, programs, services) my customers and prospects were confused and never knew which thing to sign up for so attendance in many of these new programs was not as high as I’d hoped.

 

Then what do you suppose happened? Yep, I got tired. Tired of working so hard to sell The Next Big Thing. Tired of constantly trying to reinvent a new thing that I thought people would want to buy.

When times were tough and the market was down, it seemed like this was the right thing to do; keep trying to find the thing that people would buy. But it wasn’t.

The best thing I could have done is to simplify what I offer.  Simplifying is my focus this year. 

I’m super clear on what I’m offering. how to buy it or sign up for it AND I don’t have to kill myself in the process. You see, what matters most to your prospects and customers is not that you have huge amounts of things to offer them but you have the “right” thing that they “need & want”. what is going to make them want to buy from you.

Here are a few tips on how to simplify in YOUR business:

  1. First off, figure out what your ideal clients and customers really want. Learn what matters most to them about what you offer rather than what you think they need or should buy. They will only invest in what they see they need and want, not necessarily what you think they need.
  1. Next, determine all the different ways you could offer those things to them. Could you develop a live workshop or virtual group training rather than deliver the information one-on-one? Could you design or develop a product, program or something that they could buy without any involvement of you at all after it’s completed? Figure out how your ideal client or customer wants the information, training or how they need your product delivered and make sure you offer it to them in their preferred manner, not necessarily the way you want to deliver it. I talk to prospects a lot initially about their learning styles and suggest products and services that I have to them based on how they want to learn or digest the information.
  2. Choose price points that are realistically in the range your ideal clients and customers would typically invest in with a little bit of stretching beyond that if you want so you have room to negotiate or offer special deals. Just make sure you also take a look at your overall product/program mix so that you do have some lower level offerings as well as some higher level offerings. If you desire to make a certain level in revenue this year then you want to make sure you have enough opportunity to sell enough things so crunch the numbers on what you’re selling verses how many you potentially think you could sell to make sure you can hit your goals.
  3. Finally, you won’t make anywhere near the amount of sales that you want if you don’t do enough marketing. Marketing is a huge term, it encompasses so many things and not all marketing strategies are good for all types of business owners so you do have to be careful which you embrace and implement. You want to give each strategy a fair trial period before you decide it doesn’t work but first you need to start out with a very smart, effective and consistent marketing plan. Your marketing could be simplified as well. There are so many ways to automate, systematize and delegate your lead generation, marketing and follow up tasks; this is something to really focus on if you want better results but you want to stop working so hard!
