Many entrepreneurs have a tendency to “get into our own heads” a little too much or sometimes we let things negatively affect us. This is something I call “getting into a funk”. We sometimes get discouraged or frustrated or unhappy, hurt, or sad. Maybe it was something someone said, did, or didn’t do that put you in a funk for a while, a day, or even longer.
If you had your entire day planned and you let something get to you, it could affect your productivity. Getting into a funk could result in your not getting the things done that you needed to do. One thing I recommend is to have someone to talk to. And if you are in a funk and you can’t shake it, contact them. If you don’t have a coach like me yet, try a buddy. Your buddy should be an entrepreneur as well and be someone who understands your pain and frustration. I don’t recommend calling someone who is working in a job because they won’t understand the challenge you are dealing with. Talk to someone who gets you; someone who can be your cheerleader.
So here’s what you should do. If you are in a funk for 5 minutes and haven’t pulled yourself out of it, I want you to call your buddy – someone you can trust, someone who loves and supports you and let them help you pull out of that funk.

Do you have a story, message or content inside of you that you want to get out? You want to make an impact with for others?
Well this is a trick title really because frankly I don’t believe there are any cons to being an author, only pros. Let me share a few with you in case you don’t realize how cool it can be to be an author and also how much more money you can make in your business by being an author as well!
And as a quick note before I do that, I’m talking about a print author, not an ebook author, there is a big difference although you do not have to be published by a big name publishing house these days, you can self-publish to get the same results in my opinion.
And there is nothing wrong with publishing ebooks, however in my opinion it’s not as powerful as publishing a hard copy book.
6 Big Pros to Being an Author:
Credibility – Yes, as you would imagine, being an author does give you more credibility with your topic or expertise. It’s amazing though how much people really admire and look up to you, like WOW, she’s a published author!
Publicity – Getting featured on your local TV show, radio shows (regular and online) and even getting featured in print magazines or newspapers is really pretty easy if you make this a focus. You have to do the work though, to have them notice you and to entice them to want to bring you on as a guest. As for national exposure and PR, you could go after that yourself if you know what you’re doing but it’s best to hire an expert for that part, a Publicist.
Respect – Whether you feel more important or not, you will when people see that you’re a published author. Don’t let it go to your head but enjoy the heightened state of expert status!
Speaking Gigs – If you go after them, it won’t be hard to get speaking gigs where you can talk about your book. But again, you do have to do the work to find the right opportunities, contact them in the right way and to make sure first that you present yourself on your website especially as the expert, author who can rock a room!
Money – Many people who want to become an author believe they’ll make money on the sales of their book but typically that’s not where you make your money. You usually make your money in the back end with the other business models you want to have to compliment your book. These could be revenue streams such as but not limited to audio compliments, home study courses, group programs, webinars, live events, coaching/consulting, membership program and many more. This is where you’ll make your money so make sure you don’t go out promoting your book until you’ve figured out at least one or two additional business models that you can funnel people into from your book.
Impact – And lastly, many of us who write books simply want to make an impact with it. We want to serve or help others with our message. The more hands you get your book into, the more impact you can make so don’t forget that you need a good marketing plan when you become an author whether you plan to be in business or not with it. It won’t get into that many hands unless you market it effectively.

It’s becoming very common, I see, for entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, to focus solely on their business and/or their career, yet forget one of the most important things they really should focus on. You need to focus on yourself, ladies. It’s time to stop just doing things for everyone else, and it’s time to start focusing on yourself.
I promise you that when you do this, you will attract more clients. You will make more money. And you will become more successful. However, I also guarantee that if you do not place a certain level of importance on yourself”?your health, your well-being, your love life, your environment, your support system, your time with your family, and your time for self care”?if you don’t focus on these things more, you won’t make the kind of money you really want to make in your business.
It’s just not possible. Instead of focusing on everyone else and everything else to ‘busy up’ your day, thinking that’s what you need to do in order to build your business, have a great life, and make more money, you need to fit in some self-help. Self-help can include many different things to many different women. Here are a few things that my clients, as well as myself, are trying to implement more of in our day-to-day lives so that we can be the most successful businesswomen possible.
Exercise and nutrition. It’s important to eat right and put the right things in your body, to get moving so you’re not stagnant, and to take the time for this. It’s not that difficult to make sure you have healthy chicken, seafood, or vegetables in your refrigerator that you can access every day. If you work from home it’s much easier to eat healthier. If you’re on the go, you need to prep food so you can take it with you, possibly in a container or ice chest. You also need to drink lots of water. You have to pay attention to these things or before you know it you’ll be 50 pounds overweight and unhappy with your body, and that all directly reflects how much money you’re going to make, I promise you.
Time alone / Self-care. So many of us wish we could get a massage, stop to read a book for an hour a day, do our meditation or yoga, take a walk, go for a swim, get to the gym, play with the kids. Whatever your self-care requirements and desires are, why aren’t you making time for them? It can be done in as little as one to two hours a day. Maybe you block out time in the early morning hours, and you block out time before bed to unwind. This is vital to your success because it will feed your soul; therefore, your attraction factor will increase tremendously for clients who see that you are the ideal person to work with or buy from.
Learning and self-development. This is one of the biggest things I think we all do in certain respects. You may listen to a speaker at a luncheon or a teleclass on the phone once or twice a month. Maybe you do read a book pretty often. However, how much are you really investing to implement the things you’re learning, the “aha’s” you’re having? Are you putting those ideas and thoughts into action in your life? Or, are they just motivating you for minutes and then leaving your mind?
These three are areas that I see 90% of my female clients and women entrepreneurs avoiding or ignoring in their day to day. I hate to see that because these are the areas that could ultimately double the revenues in your business if you paid more attention to them. It’s not always about doing more marketing, promotion, or sales. Sometimes it’s about being the best person you can be and being kind to yourself along the way.

There has been a lot of confusing marketing going on about niching recently in the coaching community, which might have gotten you a bit befuddled.
I want to put the record straight, and give you a few tips too!
Ultimately what any coach or healer wants, and I hope I’m speaking for you, is to help as many clients as possible and have a thriving practice. Am I right?
Here is the truth: whether you call it target market, niche or ideal client – the reality is that you need a focus coaching a group of people with specific challenges in common, all wanting the same thing. And if you’re aligned with their values, spirituality or political persuasion well that is just peachy.
Ok I’m being a bit irreverent but I’m a bit ticked off with all this double speak confusing the life out of coaches when it comes to creating a niche. When in fact it’s pivotal to your success.
One of the cornerstones to building a successful practice is to choose that special group of people you want to work with.
Why? Because when you focus on them and their specific challenges and you start speaking directly to them in language that they can understand, they will without hesitation raise their hand and say ‘Jane/John knows exactly what I’m going through, and she /he is the person to help me’.
Here are some examples:
‘I’m a coach working with women going through divorce , wanting to get through the rollercoaster ride in one piece with the possibility of happiness again.
I’m a corporate coach working with middle managers who are new to management and making a hash of it – helping them to communicate effectively with their team, earn their respect, and produce great results.
I’m a birthing hypnotherapist and I help pregnant women prepare for giving birth confidently without meds, pain or fear.
I’m a relationship coach helping men in mid-life build their confidence and find their 2nd time round soulmate.
I’m a nutritionist helping Moms deal with children who have severe allergies, and finding solutions through food and ditching prescription meds.
It’s a little different to ‘I’m a coach, and I help women move from where they are now to where they want to be’.Or ‘I’m a hypnotherapist and I help people deal with stress, smoking cessation, weight-loss, phobias and on and on.’
The more general and unspecific you are about the group of people you’re focusing on, their challenges and the solution they want, the less likely people will work with you. You’ll be seen as a ‘Jack of all Trades, Master of None’. It’s really as simple as that. Because you’re not connecting or creating trust.
Here are a couple tips to help you decide who your ideal client is (your niche) and start seeing some results.
1) Think of a time that was pivotal to your growth, and how you might be able to support people going through the same thing. This could be a huge challenge, change, illness or shift.
2) Think about something you’re extremely passionate about or get on your soap-box about…where you want to make difference.
The truth is that often our ideal clients reflect who we once were. Eg: struggled conceive or couldn’t find a job, or went broke, or got divorced. Remember a turning point in your life.
They could be people we have a deep connection to because of something we’ve experienced with someone close to us eg: parent with cancer, or sister being bullied.
Or they could be people we’re able support because of expertise we acquired along the way whether formally through school, or through the ‘school of hard-knocks’.
Ironically, the narrower your focus, the more success is likely. For a lot of coaches and healers, letting go of a more general focus or multiple groups, is difficult. Many have been where you may be. But it’s not forever, put one on the backburner, and focus on that one focus that has more of a calling to you now. Give it your all and see what happens.
And remember, whatever those marketing ‘gurus’ are calling it, just know that having that focus will help you do more of what you’re meant to do in the world and help more people.
