Do you have a strategy or do you just send emails out hap-hazardly?

Most entrepreneurs I see in my coaching business or who attend my live events are doing the latter. Of course what you want to do is have a big picture strategy first, then the actual getting it done becomes a lot easier.

Now, email marketing is just ONE piece of the overall pie that your business would want to be focusing on for marketing but you want to maximize your time with it so it doesn’t take up too much time either. There is more to do than just this one marketing and follow up strategy…

In order to have a good, efficient and results-oriented email marketing strategy you want to consider and/or implement the following things:

  1. Have an approved list – make sure the people you are sending emails to regularly via your email marketing system or service have agreed either in person, verbally or opted in on your website to receive your emails. Otherwise if they have not, you are spamming, plain and simple. (See my Ultimate Marketing Follow Up System though to know what to do with those non-opted-in people however because you can entice them to want to get your emails but it’s very strategic messaging you’ll want to use.)
  2. Plan out your content – using a Content Marketing Calendar is best when you’re not as accustomed to delivering regular emails to your list. This way you have special themes or promotions planned out and it’s easier to figure out what to write or talk about each month in your emails.
  3. Make sure you do use an actual email marketing program such as either a shopping cart such as Jumpstart Shopping Cart or a service that just sends approved emails for you such as Constant Contact, Aweber or MailChimp.
  4. Develop some templates for you to use for emailing. I always recommend having a newsletter looking template with sections and header and then also more of a casual template or announcement template with little branding and structure.
  5. Set a schedule for when you’ll send what and stick to it. You really need to touch your subscribers more than just once a month so a newsletter every other week is recommended to start. You can do weekly with less content if you’d like but it’s not necessary.
  6. Delegate whatever you don’t like to do or want to do regarding sending out your emails. I do recommend you try to develop the content as much as you can especially if your business features you. Dealing with the technology however or putting the components of your email together to send out could be something someone else does.
  7. Always pay attention to creating really attention getting subject lines so your emails are more likely to get opened.
  8. Finally, check your statistics often and revise your approach and strategy as needed. You’ll see which topics your subscribers gravitate towards more plus other stats to help you develop more content or even paid programs and products.

The top questions from entrepreneurs are “How do I find clients” and “How can I make more money?” 

So how do you do it?  How do you continuously attract and find new clients, build the business that excites you and make more money … all at the same time?

Entrepreneurs get distracted with so many ideas and options that you either do nothing or you do too many things at once but none of them very well. This presentation will teach you ONLY what you need to know NOW to start attracting clients and making money.

Then once you’ve got your business into a smooth-running, consistent income-generating machine you can implement additional strategies.   • Do you have the approval to email and follow up with hundreds or thousands of prospects and people but you’re not sending much out or even promoting your products and services when you do?

These are some of the biggest reasons that you may be making it HARD for people to buy or even get more information from you!

These are some of the best tips I teach my business coaching clients. We all need to do these things for cash flow, and consistent revenue generating, myself included. You are no different I’m sure so if you need that jumpstart….you’ve got to take a little initiative to:

  • Make your business more systematized
  • Get your mindset to shift so that you do think to do these things regularly or

Do you need to jumpstart your business in a hurry to finish off strong or reach your goals for this year? How about a plan for next year or plan for what you’re going to do to get your business up and running if you’re just starting?

Regardless if you’re just starting out in business or a seasoned professional…there are a few things you could do to Jumpstart where you are in your business right now and get a big CASH FLOW PUSH.

Don’t forget however, you always want to plan at the very minimum once a year.   Most business owners choose December or January to start planning but it really can be done anytime throughout the year and you can be checking in and tweaking your plan all year long as well.

For immediate cash flow, I recommend trying any or all of the following:

  • Send an email to your current clients, previous clients and everyone in your database (that you have permission to email)
      • Offer for a complimentary check up call or session. This can be a shortened version of what you normally get paid to do or it can be in the format of an audit of sorts – for their business, their health or some other part of whatever you help them with.
      • Offer a paid special package, deal or offer. This should be something that you don’t normally sell or at a price that’s much lower to get them to “try you out” or you can keep the regular price possibly and throw in a lot of valuable bonuses.
      • Offer a paid group webinar or teleseminar (or a series) that starts soon. I’m sure you can teach something or offer something or do open coaching or Q&A about some topic that you have expertise in, that they want to hear about. Keep this at a very low price so you can pack the calls or lines. Then from there, make sure you have a sell up to a higher priced offering since you will most likely have people who want to take it further.
      • Offer a live workshop if you have a lot of local contacts. This can be a couple hours or half or full day. I don’t recommend adding a longer event quickly and without a lot more marketing time but a shorter, less expensive workshop could be a good option. Then make sure you have a more expensive sell up offering to offer those people that day.
  • Call through your database to everyone you have a phone number for (this is why it’s so important to collect phone numbers too because email is definitely NOT the most reliable way to connect with your customers.) and offer the same sorts of things as listed above.
  • Get Networking! A week or two ago I wrote an article on the 6 Steps to Effective Networking, you can read it here if you missed it but networking and meeting and talking with people face to face is the fastest path to cash. BUT you do have to listen for what people need and then make an offer to help them with one of your programs, products or services. Don’t rely on follow up, try to make the sale or close an appointment that day. Follow up for sure, but definitely ask in person.
  • Follow up with the dozens or hundreds of people you already made a new connection with from a recent event or with your friends and followers on social media. There’s nothing like getting a phone call to strengthen that relationship whether it started online or off. Leave detailed messages so people call you back and then take it to a phone call to see if or how you can help each other.

These are some of the best tips I teach my business coaching clients. We all need to do these things for cash flow, myself included. You are no different I’m sure so if you need that jumpstart….you’ve got to take a little initiative.

One of the biggest things I see with entrepreneurs in February is that they typically get into a funk.

They set lofty goals maybe in January that still aren’t really coming to fruition or they’ve already backed out of the resolutions they’ve set and for whatever reason get into a funk about business stuff or personal (which in turn affects their business too).

 

Some of the things that can put us into that funk include:

  • Realizing that what we’re doing to grow our business isn’t working
  • Having negative people around you and saying unsupportive things
  • Not having the funds to invest in or do the things you KNOW you need to do
  • Just plain NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO

I did a little poll on Facebook recently along with asked some friends, peers and clients:

“What do you do when you get in a funk?”

“And what do you do to snap yourself out of it?”

 

Here are 20 ways I found or that came up in that poll that could help you when that FUNK hits you too:

  1. Pray
  2. Say some positive affirmations
  3. Read a chapter in an inspirational book
  4. Get out into nature
  5. Pamper yourself with a massage or pedicure
  6. Call a supportive friend, peer or mentor
  7. Read thank you notes, letters and cards
  8. Review the testimonials of your clients on your website
  9. Watch an inspirational video on YouTube
  10. Shift your plans or appointments for the day and go do something fun or play instead
  11. Get to a networking event to socialize and brainstorm with others
  12. Set a NEW goal and take some action towards it
  13. Get hugs
  14. Exercise
  15. Nurture yourself on the inside
  16. Take a nap
  17. Wallow in it all for a little bit – set a timer for just how long and feel it
  18. Get a caffeine fix
  19. Straighten your office, get organized
  20. Watch a funny movie

It’s becoming very common, I see, for entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, to focus solely on their business and/or their career, yet forget one of the most important things they really should focus on. You need to focus on yourself, ladies. It’s time to stop just doing things for everyone else, and it’s time to start focusing on yourself. 

I promise you that when you do this, you will attract more clients. You will make more money. And you will become more successful. However, I also guarantee that if you do not place a certain level of importance on yourself”?your health, your well-being, your love life, your environment, your support system, your time with your family, and your time for self care”?if you don’t focus on these things more, you won’t make the kind of money you really want to make in your business.

It’s just not possible. Instead of focusing on everyone else and everything else to ‘busy up’ your day, thinking that’s what you need to do in order to build your business, have a great life, and make more money, you need to fit in some self-help. Self-help can include many different things to many different women. Here are a few things that my clients, as well as myself, are trying to implement more of in our day-to-day lives so that we can be the most successful businesswomen possible.

  1. Exercise and nutrition. It’s important to eat right and put the right things in your body, to get moving so you’re not stagnant, and to take the time for this. It’s not that difficult to make sure you have healthy chicken, seafood, or vegetables in your refrigerator that you can access every day. If you work from home it’s much easier to eat healthier. If you’re on the go, you need to prep food so you can take it with you, possibly in a container or ice chest. You also need to drink lots of water. You have to pay attention to these things or before you know it you’ll be 50 pounds overweight and unhappy with your body, and that all directly reflects how much money you’re going to make, I promise you.
  2. Time alone / Self-care. So many of us wish we could get a massage, stop to read a book for an hour a day, do our meditation or yoga, take a walk, go for a swim, get to the gym, play with the kids. Whatever your self-care requirements and desires are, why aren’t you making time for them? It can be done in as little as one to two hours a day. Maybe you block out time in the early morning hours, and you block out time before bed to unwind. This is vital to your success because it will feed your soul; therefore, your attraction factor will increase tremendously for clients who see that you are the ideal person to work with or buy from.
  3. Learning and self-development. This is one of the biggest things I think we all do in certain respects. You may listen to a speaker at a luncheon or a teleclass on the phone once or twice a month. Maybe you do read a book pretty often. However, how much are you really investing to implement the things you’re learning, the “aha’s” you’re having? Are you putting those ideas and thoughts into action in your life? Or, are they just motivating you for minutes and then leaving your mind?

These three are areas that I see 90% of my female clients and women entrepreneurs avoiding or ignoring in their day to day. I hate to see that because these are the areas that could ultimately double the revenues in your business if you paid more attention to them. It’s not always about doing more marketing, promotion, or sales. Sometimes it’s about being the best person you can be and being kind to yourself along the way.

I’m writing this article on What To Do When You’re Down to Your Last Few Hundred Bucks because it’s been a common theme lately with some of the small business owners I’ve met, and even some of my own clients when they first start working with me.

None of us want to get in business to fail. We certainly don’t want to go back and get a J.O.B. either. So what do you do when your business just hasn’t produced a lot of revenue yet or you started out and maybe invested the money you did have in some of the wrong places?

No one likes to talk about this either, like it’s not happening or something. Don’t be embarrassed if this is you because it’s pretty common. Entrepreneurs are starting businesses with less and less money all the time. And while building your business on “a shoestring budget” is totally possible, it’s not necessarily a good plan.

So, what do you do when you’re down to your last few hundred or thousand dollars? I know it’s scary, I’ve been there a few times during my stint as an entrepreneur. 

  • Do you quit the business and go back and get a J.O.B. quickly to make some steady income? Maybe but from what I’ve seen it can take just as much time to find a good new job as it is to seriously do what it takes to ramp up a business for positive cash flow.
  • Do you sell stuff in your house, garage or storage unit? Maybe if you can, I have!
  • Do you ask relatives or friends to borrow some cash to get you by? Maybe if you can, I have done that too a couple times throughout my eleven years in business so far.
  • Do you contemplate bankruptcy or which bills NOT to pay? I’ve been there too…
  • Do you stress out, stop taking care of yourself and argue with your loved ones? Hopefully not, as that won’t really help the situation. It’s hard not to though I know.

I suggest you do some or all of the following (and possibly some of the above as well):

  • First, you want to have faith. Have faith that you’re meant to do what it is that you’re doing, that the clients and money will come, that you will be able to pay the bills and have faith in yourself to be shown what to do to make it happen.
  • Second, you want to take advantage of whatever is right in front of your face for fast cash or savings. What can you sell? How can you reduce expenses in your business or your household? Cancel a few things for example.
  • Third, I’d recommend you dial for dollars…meaning call everyone you know, business or otherwise and initiate some sales, offer special deals to buy this week, ask for referrals and more. Remember these are WARM calls, not cold calls when you already know the person or are in the same organization, etc. This includes calls to your social media “friends” as appropriate; don’t just send a message when you need to create cash though, pick up the phone.
  • Next and actually concurrently, I’d recommend getting out networking. When you meet or see people in person, those who could potentially become a customer or client, the relationship building process goes much faster and you can usually get clients pretty quickly if you meet enough people each week. Make sure you have something they can buy today when you find a hot prospect.
  • Finally, it truly may serve you best to spend a few of your last dollars on the right training you need to learn how to do all this if you’re not sure how or what to say or sell. Free stuff will only get you so far. Having a real business and marketing plan that you can follow and focus on week after week will ultimately lead you to a much more successful business. There are affordable options, you just have to look for them.

Of course there a couple dozen other marketing strategies you can try as well but these are the fastest path to cash in my opinion. Then once you do all of this, you can add other lead generation, marketing and sales strategies to the mix for long term business sustainability and profitability.
