One of the biggest things I see with entrepreneurs in February is that they typically get into a funk.
They set lofty goals maybe in January that still aren’t really coming to fruition or they’ve already backed out of the resolutions they’ve set and for whatever reason get into a funk about business stuff or personal (which in turn affects their business too).
Some of the things that can put us into that funk include:
Realizing that what we’re doing to grow our business isn’t working
Having negative people around you and saying unsupportive things
Not having the funds to invest in or do the things you KNOW you need to do
Just plain NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO
I did a little poll on Facebook recently along with asked some friends, peers and clients:
“What do you do when you get in a funk?”
“And what do you do to snap yourself out of it?”
Here are 20 ways I found or that came up in that poll that could help you when that FUNK hits you too:
Say some positive affirmations
Read a chapter in an inspirational book
Get out into nature
Pamper yourself with a massage or pedicure
Call a supportive friend, peer or mentor
Read thank you notes, letters and cards
Review the testimonials of your clients on your website
Watch an inspirational video on YouTube
Shift your plans or appointments for the day and go do something fun or play instead
Get to a networking event to socialize and brainstorm with others
Set a NEW goal and take some action towards it
Nurture yourself on the inside
Take a nap
Wallow in it all for a little bit – set a timer for just how long and feel it
Get a caffeine fix
Straighten your office, get organized
Watch a funny movie

It’s becoming very common, I see, for entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, to focus solely on their business and/or their career, yet forget one of the most important things they really should focus on. You need to focus on yourself, ladies. It’s time to stop just doing things for everyone else, and it’s time to start focusing on yourself.
I promise you that when you do this, you will attract more clients. You will make more money. And you will become more successful. However, I also guarantee that if you do not place a certain level of importance on yourself”?your health, your well-being, your love life, your environment, your support system, your time with your family, and your time for self care”?if you don’t focus on these things more, you won’t make the kind of money you really want to make in your business.
It’s just not possible. Instead of focusing on everyone else and everything else to ‘busy up’ your day, thinking that’s what you need to do in order to build your business, have a great life, and make more money, you need to fit in some self-help. Self-help can include many different things to many different women. Here are a few things that my clients, as well as myself, are trying to implement more of in our day-to-day lives so that we can be the most successful businesswomen possible.
Exercise and nutrition. It’s important to eat right and put the right things in your body, to get moving so you’re not stagnant, and to take the time for this. It’s not that difficult to make sure you have healthy chicken, seafood, or vegetables in your refrigerator that you can access every day. If you work from home it’s much easier to eat healthier. If you’re on the go, you need to prep food so you can take it with you, possibly in a container or ice chest. You also need to drink lots of water. You have to pay attention to these things or before you know it you’ll be 50 pounds overweight and unhappy with your body, and that all directly reflects how much money you’re going to make, I promise you.
Time alone / Self-care. So many of us wish we could get a massage, stop to read a book for an hour a day, do our meditation or yoga, take a walk, go for a swim, get to the gym, play with the kids. Whatever your self-care requirements and desires are, why aren’t you making time for them? It can be done in as little as one to two hours a day. Maybe you block out time in the early morning hours, and you block out time before bed to unwind. This is vital to your success because it will feed your soul; therefore, your attraction factor will increase tremendously for clients who see that you are the ideal person to work with or buy from.
Learning and self-development. This is one of the biggest things I think we all do in certain respects. You may listen to a speaker at a luncheon or a teleclass on the phone once or twice a month. Maybe you do read a book pretty often. However, how much are you really investing to implement the things you’re learning, the “aha’s” you’re having? Are you putting those ideas and thoughts into action in your life? Or, are they just motivating you for minutes and then leaving your mind?
These three are areas that I see 90% of my female clients and women entrepreneurs avoiding or ignoring in their day to day. I hate to see that because these are the areas that could ultimately double the revenues in your business if you paid more attention to them. It’s not always about doing more marketing, promotion, or sales. Sometimes it’s about being the best person you can be and being kind to yourself along the way.

I’m writing this article on What To Do When You’re Down to Your Last Few Hundred Bucks because it’s been a common theme lately with some of the small business owners I’ve met, and even some of my own clients when they first start working with me.
None of us want to get in business to fail. We certainly don’t want to go back and get a J.O.B. either. So what do you do when your business just hasn’t produced a lot of revenue yet or you started out and maybe invested the money you did have in some of the wrong places?
No one likes to talk about this either, like it’s not happening or something. Don’t be embarrassed if this is you because it’s pretty common. Entrepreneurs are starting businesses with less and less money all the time. And while building your business on “a shoestring budget” is totally possible, it’s not necessarily a good plan.
So, what do you do when you’re down to your last few hundred or thousand dollars? I know it’s scary, I’ve been there a few times during my stint as an entrepreneur.
Do you quit the business and go back and get a J.O.B. quickly to make some steady income? Maybe but from what I’ve seen it can take just as much time to find a good new job as it is to seriously do what it takes to ramp up a business for positive cash flow.
Do you sell stuff in your house, garage or storage unit? Maybe if you can, I have!
Do you ask relatives or friends to borrow some cash to get you by? Maybe if you can, I have done that too a couple times throughout my eleven years in business so far.
Do you contemplate bankruptcy or which bills NOT to pay? I’ve been there too…
Do you stress out, stop taking care of yourself and argue with your loved ones? Hopefully not, as that won’t really help the situation. It’s hard not to though I know.
I suggest you do some or all of the following (and possibly some of the above as well):
First, you want to have faith. Have faith that you’re meant to do what it is that you’re doing, that the clients and money will come, that you will be able to pay the bills and have faith in yourself to be shown what to do to make it happen.
Second, you want to take advantage of whatever is right in front of your face for fast cash or savings. What can you sell? How can you reduce expenses in your business or your household? Cancel a few things for example.
Third, I’d recommend you dial for dollars…meaning call everyone you know, business or otherwise and initiate some sales, offer special deals to buy this week, ask for referrals and more. Remember these are WARM calls, not cold calls when you already know the person or are in the same organization, etc. This includes calls to your social media “friends” as appropriate; don’t just send a message when you need to create cash though, pick up the phone.
Next and actually concurrently, I’d recommend getting out networking. When you meet or see people in person, those who could potentially become a customer or client, the relationship building process goes much faster and you can usually get clients pretty quickly if you meet enough people each week. Make sure you have something they can buy today when you find a hot prospect.
Finally, it truly may serve you best to spend a few of your last dollars on the right training you need to learn how to do all this if you’re not sure how or what to say or sell. Free stuff will only get you so far. Having a real business and marketing plan that you can follow and focus on week after week will ultimately lead you to a much more successful business. There are affordable options, you just have to look for them.
Of course there a couple dozen other marketing strategies you can try as well but these are the fastest path to cash in my opinion. Then once you do all of this, you can add other lead generation, marketing and sales strategies to the mix for long term business sustainability and profitability.

One of the main things that stops a lot of entrepreneurs from moving forward in their business or holds them back from reaching the 6-figure mark is being in overwhelm.
Overwhelm can cripple a business owner. It sometimes gets so bad you may do nothing at all! And that’s not going to help you make more money or get more clients….you want to stay in constant action to see the best results. BUT those actions should be very strategic, planned and targeted to what you need to do to start, grow or market your business.
Many small business owners focus on the wrong things first in their business therefore sometimes filling their schedule with unnecessary tasks rather than revenue generating tasks.
So how can you overcome overwhelm?
Here are 3 ways that could help you get out of overwhelm faster or help you become more focused in the first place.
1:Clear Space: One of the first things I do sometimes with clients who are in overwhelm when they come to me is figure out where they’re spending time every week in their life and their business. This is one activity you can do to evaluate if you are spending your valuable time on unnecessary tasks or actual revenue generating actions. Keep track of ALL your activities for 7 full days, whether you’re working or not. Write them all down, everything you do plus how much time you’re spending on each task. Yes, down to doing the laundry and especially time on social media and email. Try to determine if you are doing things that will lead to a sale or talking with a prospect one way or another. If not, take note. After that week, review what you’ve been spending time doing and think of how you can shift time spent.
2: Hire Team: For many small business owners who are in the first 3-5 years of first starting your business you typically don’t believe you can afford to hire anyone just yet; usually because you’re still not making the amount of money that YOU want to make. But if you think differently about this; that by hiring one or two people to help you get more revenue generating activities done every month you could actually be in a place to talk with and sell more prospects into your programs, products and services. If you already have the beginning of a team, then evaluate your team. Are they doing the right things? Are you delegating the right tasks? What else is missing? More Marketing, more follow up, more connecting online, more touches with your database, more phone calls? These are the main revenue generating tasks that a team could be doing for you so you can reach more people every month.
3:Evaluate Options: This is the most important of all. As entrepreneurs we typically have no shortage of ideas. Ideas though, sometimes are what overwhelms us. We want to develop this new product, that new program, send this email, hold a special sale, plan a big event or write that book. I could go on and on of course as these are all ideas I’ve had as well. Then there’s the outside influencers who give us more ideas and share things we “should be” doing in our business or our marketing. Just be careful who you listen to and how you prioritize what you do and keep a list or journal of ALL your ideas for the future. You don’t want to implement them all at once and there are certain things you want to do depending on how long you’ve been in business so also be careful about doing which things too early on in your business or you may not see the results from them that you want.
Hopefully that helps you with a few ways to get out of the overwhelm you could be in. Take it slow and get help if you need it. This is why having a strategic business coach can really help you; we don’t let you go crazy implementing the wrong things first, we help you get focused.
