I was at a women’s conference a couple years ago and one of the main things that stuck with me from that particular conference was that we don’t have just ONE purpose in life or in business, but we have three.

It made sense and maybe you’ll agree.

It always felt hard for me to answer that question when my coaches and mentors or even my clients asked me, “What is your purpose?”.

But this makes it simple I think, see what you think and comment below!

You May Have 3 Purposes:

  1. Professional Purpose – this is why you do what you do from an expertise standpoint. What is the transformation you provide? What are the resources or the trainings you provide? And whom or how many is it for?
  2. Global Purpose – this is the bigger purpose that that for the planet and why you’re here on earth. What kind of legacy or impact do you want to make on a global basis?
  3. Personal Purpose – this is YOUR big why and why you do what you do from a personal standpoint. What you really want for yourself and those you love and how will you make an impact this way?
What do you think? Do you have more than one purpose? I do.
  • My Professional Purpose is to help entrepreneurs jumpstart their businesses and themselves by implementing profitable business systems, models, and marketing so they can create a smooth-running, moneymaking business they love.
  • My Global Purpose is to heal the hearts of women on this planet and teach them (men too) that they don’t have to settle for relationships that don’t serve them or jobs they hate. They can take charge of their life and go after anything they want or need.

One of the biggest things I see with entrepreneurs in February is that they typically get into a funk.

They set lofty goals maybe in January that still aren’t really coming to fruition or they’ve already backed out of the resolutions they’ve set and for whatever reason get into a funk about business stuff or personal (which in turn affects their business too).

 

Some of the things that can put us into that funk include:

  • Realizing that what we’re doing to grow our business isn’t working
  • Having negative people around you and saying unsupportive things
  • Not having the funds to invest in or do the things you KNOW you need to do
  • Just plain NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO

I did a little poll on Facebook recently along with asked some friends, peers and clients:

“What do you do when you get in a funk?”

“And what do you do to snap yourself out of it?”

 

Here are 20 ways I found or that came up in that poll that could help you when that FUNK hits you too:

  1. Pray
  2. Say some positive affirmations
  3. Read a chapter in an inspirational book
  4. Get out into nature
  5. Pamper yourself with a massage or pedicure
  6. Call a supportive friend, peer or mentor
  7. Read thank you notes, letters and cards
  8. Review the testimonials of your clients on your website
  9. Watch an inspirational video on YouTube
  10. Shift your plans or appointments for the day and go do something fun or play instead
  11. Get to a networking event to socialize and brainstorm with others
  12. Set a NEW goal and take some action towards it
  13. Get hugs
  14. Exercise
  15. Nurture yourself on the inside
  16. Take a nap
  17. Wallow in it all for a little bit – set a timer for just how long and feel it

It’s becoming very common, I see, for entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, to focus solely on their business and/or their career, yet forget one of the most important things they really should focus on. You need to focus on yourself, ladies. It’s time to stop just doing things for everyone else, and it’s time to start focusing on yourself. 

I promise you that when you do this, you will attract more clients. You will make more money. And you will become more successful. However, I also guarantee that if you do not place a certain level of importance on yourself”?your health, your well-being, your love life, your environment, your support system, your time with your family, and your time for self care”?if you don’t focus on these things more, you won’t make the kind of money you really want to make in your business.

It’s just not possible. Instead of focusing on everyone else and everything else to ‘busy up’ your day, thinking that’s what you need to do in order to build your business, have a great life, and make more money, you need to fit in some self-help. Self-help can include many different things to many different women. Here are a few things that my clients, as well as myself, are trying to implement more of in our day-to-day lives so that we can be the most successful businesswomen possible.

  1. Exercise and nutrition. It’s important to eat right and put the right things in your body, to get moving so you’re not stagnant, and to take the time for this. It’s not that difficult to make sure you have healthy chicken, seafood, or vegetables in your refrigerator that you can access every day. If you work from home it’s much easier to eat healthier. If you’re on the go, you need to prep food so you can take it with you, possibly in a container or ice chest. You also need to drink lots of water. You have to pay attention to these things or before you know it you’ll be 50 pounds overweight and unhappy with your body, and that all directly reflects how much money you’re going to make, I promise you.
  2. Time alone / Self-care. So many of us wish we could get a massage, stop to read a book for an hour a day, do our meditation or yoga, take a walk, go for a swim, get to the gym, play with the kids. Whatever your self-care requirements and desires are, why aren’t you making time for them? It can be done in as little as one to two hours a day. Maybe you block out time in the early morning hours, and you block out time before bed to unwind. This is vital to your success because it will feed your soul; therefore, your attraction factor will increase tremendously for clients who see that you are the ideal person to work with or buy from.
  3. Learning and self-development. This is one of the biggest things I think we all do in certain respects. You may listen to a speaker at a luncheon or a teleclass on the phone once or twice a month. Maybe you do read a book pretty often. However, how much are you really investing to implement the things you’re learning, the “aha’s” you’re having? Are you putting those ideas and thoughts into action in your life? Or, are they just motivating you for minutes and then leaving your mind?

These three are areas that I see 90% of my female clients and women entrepreneurs avoiding or ignoring in their day to day. I hate to see that because these are the areas that could ultimately double the revenues in your business if you paid more attention to them. It’s not always about doing more marketing, promotion, or sales. Sometimes it’s about being the best person you can be and being kind to yourself along the way.

Working the Room

As a seasoned networker who built my multiple six figure coaching business initially by networking and follow up, I had to learn how to meet as many people as possible in order to have more leads to develop each month. Ten years ago when I started my business I attended an average of 14 networking events every month.

While the follow up of all the leads you get at such events is a crucial component of making this work, without enough leads to follow up on, you’ll basically get nowhere fast.

Therefore, here are a few key tips on how to make the most of your time at your next networking event – Working the Room!

1. Be Prepared:  Go with a goal of how many connections you want to make for leads and referral sources. Carry enough business cards. Have an enticing special offer or freebie someone can agree to receive from you when they agree to be signed up for your email list. You don’t need to have the free gifts on hand as long as you can email it later. If you do carry a free gift with you, you may get more leads however. I like to give out audio recordings on CD’s, free checklists for marketing strategies or little promotional products that people will use, not boring ones like pens and paper.

2.  Work It Baby:  Try not to spend more than five minutes with any one person. If you get someone who goes on and on and on you want to break in and interrupt them and ask them what types of people they wanted to meet here tonight. When they indicate who they would like to meet, glance around the room to find someone to introduce them to and pass them off. The goal is to get other people’s business cards. Giving out yours is not as important because you can always follow up and send them one. Plus when you ask for others’ cards and you ask more questions of them, they tend to like, trust and connect with you better. Don’t talk a lot about yourself.

3.  Get Results:  Always keep in mind who you’re looking to meet and when you run into them, ask if they’d like to talk with you later and get to know each other. Set an appointment right then, grab their card and move on. Don’t try to have a long-winded or in-depth “get-to-know-you” conversation in the middle of a networking event. Schedlue those for later and make as many as you can. In addition to booking follow up appointments whenever possible, you want to get verbal agreements to add people to your email list so that you can continue to market and follow up with them after the event.

The top questions from entrepreneurs are “How do I find clients” and “How can I make more money?” 

So how do you do it?  How do you continuously attract and find new clients, build the business that excites you and make more money … all at the same time?

Entrepreneurs get distracted with so many ideas and options that you either do nothing or you do too many things at once but none of them very well.

Don’t be fooled by all the tricks in the internet marketing world out there….if you’re in business and NOT seeing the kind of income you want to make then this is the perfect strategy for you to hone your skills in. I KNOW you’re not doing enough networking, relationship marketing or maximizing it when you do network. No one does….

Networking is STILL THE FASTEST PATH TO CASH for myself and any of my clients who need to generate business quickly.

So what is the fastest way to cash, and what about building relationships?

You need to meet as many people as you can and then keep in touch with them consistently and persistently in order to stay on top of their minds at all times. So, networking is the fastest way to build your list of customers and prospects and even referral sources. There are online networking strategies these days as well as offline, on this webinar we will touch on both.

Where can you start?

1:  Find More Places to Network:  More local events, luncheons, meetings, conferences plus national or regional ones too. I recommend making a habit of attending one larger conference or 2-4 day event every quarter at least. Then monthly locally you can attend anywhere from 1-4 per week in most areas if you look hard enough. All the people you meet may not be exact prospects but you could find a lot of prospects, referral sources, opportunities to be a speaker and many other opportunities you wouldn’t have with less networking. One tip on where to find more networking groups or meetings is to search beyond your local chambers, go to meetup.com and do a search for the keywords that would be of interest to your target market, do a search on Google for groups with your specific focus or even search on Facebook or LInkedin.

2:  Have a Clear Strategy For Working the Room:  To just attend is not good enough, you want to go with a goal of how many people you want to meet, what other goals you can achieve, like how many potential referral sources you want to meet too. Sometimes you also want to become an exhibitor or sponsor of an event, not just an attendee for added exposure and added opportunity to showcase yourself and what you do. One tip for working the room is to ask lots of questions of everyone else and talk more about them than yourself. Asking for everyone’s cards so you can follow up later but even suggesting to them then that you’d love to set up a follow up, get-to-know-ya type of a call.

3:  Make Sure You Always Follow Up Like Crazy: This is where most business owners fall down and don’t actually maximize their time networking in the first place. Most sales will be made on the follow up. Most opportunities for speaking gigs or joint ventures will be made on the follow up. Calling to follow up is the best strategy but you also want to follow up via email and direct mail too. If you really want to make a big impression or get to someone quickly and they’re not responding then go search them out on Facebook or your favorite social media site and send them a message there too. One tip about follow up is to NOT add everyone you meet to your email newsletters or a subscription via email however, that is spamming and not good etiquette. If someone asks for you to send them your info or be added to your list then of course you can oblige. Finally, you want to follow up more than one time in each way, minimum of 2 direct mail attempts, emails and phone calls for best response.

Hopefully that helps you figure out how to fit more networking into your schedule and how to maximize your time too.  Remember, if you’re not that busy in your business and you need clients; your time spent networking could be the biggest bang for your buck and time to build your business quickly.
