The number of people you have in your database is the number of people you have access to market to on a regular basis so your #1 goal in your business should be to build your database and set up a consistent, frequent system for marketing and following up with them.

If this isn’t your #1 goal, you’re missing out on a ton of sales.

If you’re not networking (online and in person in some way), you’re missing out on a ton of sales.

Here is a quick networking and follow up worksheet and guide for you:

1. Have you defined your target market? Are you sure? Who is your ideal client? Describe them.

2. How many people are in your current database (everyone you know)?

3. How many people do you want to add to that this year? Do you want to double it? What’s your goal?

4. Where can you go to build your list where your ideal client is hanging out (brainstorm)?

a. women’s organizations
b. chamber of commerce events
c. industry association meetings
d. membership functions
e. local or national conferences and workshops
f. online social networking websites, blogs and forums

5. How to best prepare yourself for networking:

a. research events and block them on your calendar every month (make sure you’re consistent and go back often to ones that are good)
b. practice your 10-30-60 second commercials
c. bring marketing materials, always have them in your car and on hand so you never run out.
d. arrive on time and allow enough time after for continued networking – don’t rush your stay.
e. be prepared to give to others, ask questions of others and not just talk about yourself.

6. Develop an easy follow up system you can follow each week or delegate it to an assistant so it gets done!

As a small business owner you’re probably doing a ton of things yourself in your business – some you need to do but some also that maybe you shouldn’t be doing, right?

computerIn talking with hundreds of entrepreneurs every month I find that the majority of them (you/us) struggle with our email inboxes…they’re overflowing right?

You’re either:

  • Overwhelmed with email and your inbox
  • Feeling like you’re tied to it or it follows you around (on your smart phone)
  • Confused on how to organize it better – the flow, the emails you need, the spam, etc.
  • Ignoring it all together
  • Wondering how you can ever take a vacation (or a couple days off) and NOT check in
  • Or you’ve got it down and thoroughly organized like a well-oiled machine

Well, if you’re NOT in the situation of the very last point then you may be interested to know a few things you can do to better manage your emails and inbox.  After all, you’re wasting hours a month deleting and sorting through emails you don’t even need to show up in the first place.

The following are 4 tips I suggest to better manage your emails:

  1. Sort and organize your emails – Use the rules option in your mailbox feature to send specific emails into their own folders in your inbox to start.
    • I send all the emails from my team (various VAs) to one folder so I can hammer out responses all at one time every hour or couple hours or so as it fits my time schedule.
    • I send all my email newsletters (the ones I do want to keep) to a newsletter folder in my inbox to read when I have time.  Guess what?  Rarely do I ever have time nor do I miss them!
    • I send all emails from particular people like my own coach, my mastermind or other group I may be a part of to their own respective folders to keep them organized and my main inbox less cluttered.

I wanted to give a quick tip this week about thinking bigger.…I’ve talked with at least 3 entrepreneurs just this week who I gave some ideas to that were way outside their current thinking or scope of what they believed was possible yet all 3 ideas are totally doable.

It’s amazing to me how much is out there on the internet these days and how some small business owners still have no real idea what is totally possible in their business or how much they could really make if they restructured their business or their programs and pricing just even a little.

Did you see what I announced last month?
