I know lots of people suggest you should be blogging if you’re not already, right? They also say you should post something on your blog at least 3 times a week, right?

blog bloggingIt is a really great strategy to use in your marketing but it’s ONLY ONE of the tens of strategies you really SHOULD be doing every month. You just need to find the easiest way to do more of them faster or in more of an automated way.

So here are some things you’ll want to know about blogging whether you’re doing it or not and then I’m happy to share with you too later on how to automate it more so it’s not taking too much of your time. Because the reality is that just the act of blogging alone won’t really bring in a lot of clients.

You have to have your blogging woven in and out of multiple marketing strategies, your website, follow up, social media and more in order for it to work as an income generator.

It does do many things for you however regardless, such as:

  • #1. You will engage your readers and prospects into conversations and action.
  • #2. You will build a community of followers, fans and supporters.
  • #3. You will be in more places at one time expanding your reach globally.
  • #4. You will prove yourself as an expert.
  • #5. You will reach people who don’t want to receive your emails perhaps; some people don’t want to read emails and newsletters, they prefer to read quick blog posts.
  • #6. You will increase your sales as more people read your articles and learn to like and trust you.
  • #7. You can manage it easily and quickly if you have the right systems in place!

What do you need to do though ON your blog to make sure it’s successful?

  • You must have an opt in box in addition to blog subscription option;
  • You should allow comments to encourage reader interaction;
  • You should have videos of yourself for more interaction;
  • You could highlight one of your products or services to get them to click over to your site and for more info;
  • You can put all kinds of ‘widgets’ on your blog to attract more attention, provide more interaction and even build a revenue stream.

How to know what to post and say on your blog to keep the content fresh?

In the meantime, this is just ONE of the hundreds of things you could be doing to attract more clients and generate more income for yourself so don’t get too caught up with the management of it on a day to day basis, just get something going for now and be relatively active to start.

One of the biggest challenges for small business owners when it comes to their website is writing the content for it all. 

This is why sometimes it takes you months and months to get your website up or why your site doesn’t do much for you when it is live.

The content for your website is such a critical part yet you spend so little time on it usually because you don’t know what to do.

I want to give you a quick guide on how to write better content for your website and basically for many of your marketing materials as well.

First of all, it’s important to remember that YOUR WEBSITE IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MATRKETNG TOOL. You need to treat it as such.

When done right, your website can bring you more leads than you could ever generate yourself any other way. The key is to develop a strategy for your website and how it will fit in with all the other marketing and sales processes that you have (or need to have) in place. Then when you have the strategy, you add details that allow for more interaction, personality and functionality for you and your visitors including forms, opt in boxes, videos, links and more.

Here’s a quick 3 step process for writing content for your website including your home page, about page, all your services or sales pages and even your contact page or other pages.

First of all, you have to capture the visitor’s attention with a big bold headline on the top of EVERY page. Think about what the visitor is doing on the page you’re writing, be it the home page or the about page, etc. What is their question or concern in their mind when they click on it? Address that question or concern (in their words) on the very top in big, bold colored font. That big bold headline has to entice them enough to keep on reading. If it doesn’t, they could leave your page or your site all together right then without reading another word.

Secondly, the copy you write under the big bold headline still has to talk to the visitor’s hot buttons, what matters most to them and why they’re on your site. That means you want to still write about their concerns and questions, agitating their possible situation in regards to what you do. This is NOT yet where you talk about what you offer, do or what you sell. You still have to get them to engage in the copy more with the first few paragraphs of each page so they do feel confident that they’re in the right place, on the right site and that you could have the solution to what their need is or what they were searching for.

Finally, after you’ve interacted more, engaged more with the visitor in your copy and what matters most to them, now you can let them know that you have the solution they’ve been searching for. This is where you share more possibly about your expertise, your services/products or you take them to the next step of where you want them to go on your site. Sometimes the next step (for example on your home page) should be to just recommend they get on your email list and get your freebie up in the opt in box on the top of the page. On the home page especially is NOT normally where you want to try to sell them. The goal of your home page is to get them on your email list so you can continue to market to them in case they leave your site after that.

There’s a lot more to know about writing good content for your website but if you keep this formula in mind when doing so then you should see a much better response on your website than if you didn’t do this.

I’m so excited to be home from my travels….I have a few more in Sept – I’ll be in Monterey, then LA twice. This is a pic of the four of us from the eWomenNetwork Conference where I did a booth – remember that $11,000 big prize drawing I was doing? It was with these gals. Go read my conference recap.

My life is crazy busy right now with speaking gigs, interviews, telesummits and my own events and calls thank goodness I have a few assistants who manage some of this and a very sweet boyfriend who puts up with my craziness….it’s good but when you’ve got a lot of balls in the air, organization becomes critical.

That’s one of the challenges and the blessings when you become more known as an expert in your industry, get out more and have a bigger follwoing.

I’m not trying to brag here. What I’m trying to express is that it’s not always easier when you get bigger or make more money. In fact, you want to learn how to delegate, automate and systematize the things you’re doing every month as soon as you can so that when the time comes for YOU to be swamped with fun, exciting opportunities, you’re prepared.

There is NO better time than NOW to get yourself and your business PREPARED for what’s to come. Because when you get there and try to ‘do this then’, trust me, you won’t have time and you’ll do it all haphazzardly.

As an entrepreneur or small business owner you probably already know you need to be blogging but you may not know what to blog about. At least that’s the #1 question I get asked about when this topic comes up in my trainings.

Blogging is one of the necessary marketing strategies you really should be doing these days and it can be easy to accomplish with the right action plan. Let me explain. 

First of all, why do we want to blog? Here are the Top 7 Reasons to Blog:

  1. To establish ourselves as experts and get more exposure online
  2. To educate our prospects and followers about things we do or have expertise in
  3. To create a constant flow of relavent content on our websites or online in order to drive more free traffic to our sites
  4. To offer opportunities for prospects and customers to take advantage of our programs, products and services
  5. It’s another way for prospects to find us, follow us and find out more about us
  6. To reach prospects and become known globally
  7. To engage readers into conversations or to take action

What you need to do though ON your blog to make sure it’s successful?

How to know what to post and say on your blog to keep the content fresh?

Try making a list of all the big topics you could write about. Anything you have expertise in that relates to what you do or even complimentary type content that your ideal target market would want to hear about that would make sense to include along with what you primarily cover. For example if you speak or coach clients on finding their life purpose, then expand that to other things they need once they find their purpose. Do they need a business plan? Do they need help in their relationships to support them on fulfilling their life purpose?

Either develop content yourself in those other areas or invite other business owners who focus in those areas in their businesses to be guest bloggers on your blog. Obviously ask them to do the same for you and you both then get exposure to new groups of people plus you each populate your own blog with more relevant content. It’s a win-win for both of you. I call this doing a blog swap. It’s a great (and FREE) marketing strategy!

We’re almost to the half way mark for the year and boy is it flying by!

I wanted to let you in on a little secret that I’m doing right now in my business and it’s about getting back to the basics.

Yes, you heard it here first….the queen of doing all kinds of stuff in her biz is still doing the basics!

Why? Because that what works! (in any economy)

You see, while the leveraged business models are still working, there are some business models that you want to spend your time on and some you ABSOLUTELY DON’T right now….

It’s time to ‘Get Back to the Basics’ of what works in your business, the types of things you’re selling, your marketing, your follow up and your overall effective work habits.

In the last few months every business owner I’ve spoken to has all had the same questions:

“What can I do that will bring me more business, nothing is working?”

“Where should I be focusing in my business, I feel like I’m spinning my wheels?”

“How do I get out of overwhelm? There’s so much to do!”

Well, you’re not alone. However there’s a lot of hypy sales stuff out there that sounds great and sounds like it could help you make millions of dollars but will it really work for YOUR type of business and YOU?

Can you risk it financially right now to ‘try it out’?

Most of you I know cannot; neither do I want to take some of those risks so I’m with you here.

What I’m suggesting is getting back to the basics, getting back to building and cultivating relationships with everyone you know. I know you know this, but I’ll bet you’re NOT REALLY DOING THIS?

No entrepreneur I see is doing enough personal connecting, following up, promotion and marketing and most of this little to no money.

You need the RIGHT PLAN of action to show you which steps to take so you can get moving – you need to do BOTH offline and online marketing activities these days to really get where you need to go. That plan needs to consist of many basics – its the marketing basics that will pull you through this tough time. It’s the marketing basics that I’ve been doing since day one in my business and will continue to do every year….because they work.

  • Networking
  • Speaking
  • Drop-bys
  • Direct Mail
  • Phone calls
  • Advertising
  • Referral rewards
  • In store Promotions
  • Publicity
  • Live Events / Tradeshows
Basics of Online Marketing Could Include:
  • Social Media
  • Websites – professionally built and copywritten
  • Opt-in boxes, online offers
  • Shopping Carts, Email Marketing Programs
  • Blogging
  • Video Marketing – youtube
  • Article Marketing
  • Webinars / Teleclasses
  • eBooks and info-products
  • Search engine optimization
  • Web directories
And more on each really….there is so much one small business can do these days but how do you know what to implement FIRST!?
If you implement the above strategies OUT OF ORDER in your business then you may waste a lot of time and money without seeing RESULTS. I want to prevent that from happening to you….

I was interviewed on The Entrepreneur Blog.  A blog created by Evan Carmichael to help give practical advice to entrepreneurs who are trying to build and grow their companies online.

I was asked by The Entrepreneur Blog how I made my first sale – here’s what I said:

What’s your #1 tip for entrepreneurs?

While there are so many tips I want to share, the big one that comes to mind that affects most small business owners I see from reaching their full potential is to stop trying to do everything yourself.

Stop trying to figure everything out.

Stop trying to learn how to do everything in your business yourself such as:

  • designing a website
  • writing a press release
  • designing your logo and marketing materials
  • writing your own contracts
  • doing your own bookkeeping
  • and so much more

It’s crazy how many hats we have to wear as business owners but you’ll get no where fast if you try to literally wear them all yourself.

You also won’t see the amount of revenue you dream about seeing if you do this either. It’s just not physically possible to do EVERYTHING that has to be done to start, grow, run and market a successful, smooth-running, moneymaking business.

Instead, surround yourself with people who can support you in areas that are not your expertise. Hire professionals to make you look good. Rely on individuals who are smarter and faster at doing things you aren’t so good or efficient at doing.

The sooner you stop being a control freak in your business or being scared that you can’t afford such help, the sooner you’ll see bigger monetary results.

Here are a few tips to get you started on who to hire or what to outsource:

  1. The first thing a business owner usually needs is at least a business card and a website. Other marketing materials can typically wait. You can generate leads offline and online when you have both of these things professionally designed.
  2. The second thing a business owner typically needs is a second set of hands. That could mean a set of hands to help you with home help if you work from home; maybe a nanny, housekeeper or landscaper to start? If you’re fine at home so far then usually its someone to help you manage your paperwork, administrative work, organizing your office or implementing marketing strategies from your marketing plan. All of these could be crucial to your success but if you need to make money now, I recommend getting the marketing plan and person to implement it in place first.
  3. Thirdly, a business owner may need legal matters in place or financial documents in order and these are areas you definitely don’t want to mess up with mistakes that you could make.

Networking is the least expensive, most effective form of marketing that any small business owner can do. Nowadays you can do it online and offline but there are some keys to doing this that are crucial so you’re not being too salesy, pushy or annoying AND you’re still building great relationships with qualified prospects!
