One of the many marketing and lead generation strategies I learned along the way that I still do today, 8 years later is to hold teleclasses & webinars live just about every single month.

I hope you realize how important speaking can be to YOUR business too. And speaking in this way can catapult your business tremendously in many ways. Let me share how… 

  • First of all, holding your own teleclasses & webinars gets you in front of dozens if not hundreds of potential prospects all at one time therefore extremely leveraging your time
  • It allows you the opportunity in many cases to make an offer from the platform you’re on due to the increased like-trust-connect factor of your participants
  • When you market these types of calls and presentations you have the opportunity to reach potential prospects around the world, not just in your local area
  • Teleclasses & webinars (if done well and include the right content) can increase your visibility and exposure on your online platforms and social media as well as position you more as an expert in your field

Why the majority of entrepreneurs DO NOT HOLD THEIR OWN Teleclasses & Webinars:

  • Fear of the unknown
  • Not sure what to say or how to present in that manner or any manner if they’re not speaking much already
  • Apprehensive of the technology needs required to hold such presentations
  • Not sure how to get people to attend (hence market the presentation)
  • Lack of confidence that anyone would want to listen to you anyway

How can you get over these issues and challenges if this is you?

  • You have to ask for support and guidance first of all, this type of marketing strategy is SIMPLE for those of us who do it and can show anyone HOW pretty quickly IF YOU ASK
  • You commit to doing it and just push through
  • You get some support around what to say during your presentation and how to present in a way that makes people want to stick around the listen in the whole time
  • You get some support and guidance around how to present an offer, even if it’s a free offer or call you want participants to take care of
  • You realize quickly how much this could grow your business if you just start doing it

Speaking in your business through these online portholes so to speak can work if you do a few things right:

  • First, plot out the topics you could cover in such a manner
  • Make sure those topics are what your target prospects want to hear more about by possibly surveying them or asking
  • Next, plot out the dates and times you will hold your events and choose which options are right for you – teleclasses, webinars, Google Hangouts, other?
  • Write out the topic description and come up with a hooky title (DO NOT DEVELOP THE ENTIRE PRESENTATION AT THIS TIME!)
  • Thirdly, learn a little about the technology and what you’ll need to effectively host your own teleclass or webinar and how you will present it online for prospects to enroll in your class and get on your email list in the process
  • Next, get up a registration page and process in place to take registrations, getting people on your list
  • Fourth, start marketing the event anywhere and everywhere you can think of – online and offline (see me for a full marketing plan if you aren’t sure!)
  • And finally, now you build out your content, once you know people are coming and you need to deliver – there is a specific way to lay out your content, putting certain things in the intro, the middle and the close or you may not see people stick around until the end or take the action you want them to take.
  • Oh and don’t forget to REMIND attendees to come to the call! People always forget that step!

Do you like making resolutions every year? What about money goals – do you make them? Hit them?

I personally am not a big fan of resolutions. Every time in the past where I’ve set them, I’ve never seemed to actually accomplish them, especially when they had to do with dieting or weight loss. I do however, see results from and accomplish most of my goals that I set every year (personal or business).

So instead of resolutions if you’ve not had that much luck with them in the past either, let’s set some clear, actionable and realistic goals (especially MONEY GOALS!) for yourself and your business?

 

I believe in optimistic, stretch goals but also realistic goals. I’ve had a few mentors in the past suggest I set these huge lofty revenue goals for my business, I’m talking a million dollars or more, when I wasn’t even yet making one hundred thousand. Now that’s ridiculous in my mind. It’s not that a million dollar business isn’t doable but when you aren’t even to the first biggest milestone yet of $100,000, it’s so far from realistic that of course 99.9% of people would fail.

One thing you can do to help you figure out just how much money you could potentially make or bring in this coming year is to crunch the numbers. This is one of the FIRST THINGS I do with a new coaching client. We figure out what they want to or are selling and for how much, then we forecast so-to-speak how many of each they can potentially sell, etc. to see what “number” could be at the end of the year IF they do all the right marketing, sales conversations and other things that will be necessary for them to get there. (That stuff is the hard part.)

What I mean by crunching the numbers is that you start out by identifying all the different things you sell and for how much. For example, do you sell a $47 ebook, a 6 week group program for $297 and one-on-one coaching for $400/month, a $497 live event? That’s just an example of a coaching business with a few various options of products and services.

Another example is say of a professional organizer or other service professional who sells monthly services on retainer say for $200/month for 1-3 hours or a VIP Day or weekend for say $2000. Or percentage of book of business, whatever it is that you sell, you should be able to somewhat plot out what you could make.

Take a look at realistically how many of each of these you could sell each month based on what you sell now plus what you could sell if you marketed yourself a whole lot more and much more consistently. Could you double the number of sales every month? Plus could you raise your rates on what you’re already doing? Many business owners could. If so, add all those sales up, raise your rates, crunch the numbers and see what you get?

There’s a little more to this of course because you could be adding a new service or product this year and you aren’t sure how it will sell yet. You could be writing a book and expect to receive a lot more opportunities to get in front of audiences while speaking about it which you know will lead to sales. There are so many opportunities for increased revenues that could be right in front of your face but because you’re so close to your business it’s just hard to see.

When it comes to setting your BIG Money Goals for the year, here are 9 questions to ask yourself first:

  1. Crunch the numbers – what can you sell and how many each month?
  2. What else will you be adding to your product line / sales funnel to factor in for revenue?
  3. Where will you have some huge opportunities for huge exposure to factor in for lead generation?
  4. What did you do last year in revenue and was that working at 100% capacity?
  5. Is there room for growth and much more marketing to bring in massive amounts of more leads (if you knew how and what exactly to do?)?
  6. Could you revise some of your offerings so you are bringing in revenue in multiple ways?
  7. Can you stretch a little farther than your original goals to get yourself a little outside your comfort zone?
  8. Can you raise your rates or stop offering discounts and offer bonuses instead to keep more of the revenue?
  9. Are your goals realistic yet stretched and optimistic?

Finally, one of the things I always like to remind my clients when they get a little depressed about not reaching ALL their goals all the time…. You want to celebrate your accomplishments always. Every milestone you reach or goal you achieve is cause for celebration and reward. Make sure you keep track of what you DO accomplish, you’ll be surprised!

–>> Without a clear focus on what you’re selling, how you’re marketing and to whom you’re marketing how do you expect to really become more successful?

This is one of the most difficult things for small business owners that I see which holds them back.

There is so much you need to do these days in your business just to even keep it afloat much less make a ton of money. Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed in this new year?

If your goal isn’t to make a ton of money that’s ok but either way, you need to market more and be very focused in what you’re offering online and in person or people will find it hard to understand why or how you can help them or why they should buy your stuff.

So where do you start to create YOUR Big Picture Plan?

Here are some key elements that your plan might consist of:

 

  • How much money you need to make this coming year?
  • – Break down your annual revenue goal into monthly increments so you can then determine how many clients/customers you need to get to reach that goal.
  • What new programs, products or services do you want to launch and when?
  • – What needs to be in place to make sure that happens efficiently
  • What personal goals do you have (vacations, time off with family each week, relationship focus, self care, etc)
  • What marketing will you tweak or add this year to reach more of your ideal target market
  • How many clients will you need in order to reach those money goals? Figure it out.

Now, what are the steps you need to take to reach those goals? Do you know?

Do you have those plotted out as well? This part is crucial. Some people just write down the goal but then stop there. You want to break each goal into bite size pieces or tasks that you can then do or accomplish every week, month or quarter to reach those goals and make them manageable. Hence, being focused.


Sometimes you will need to focus more on the inner workings of your business and the systems it takes to serve more customers or sell or follow up with more prospects to turn them into customers.


Other times its about focusing more on the marketing and lead generation (once you have those systems in place).

Here are my top 11 Marketing Strategies that you probably want to make sure you are focusing on this year.

  • Networking in person
  • Speaking in person or online/phone/radio
  • Social Media marketing and networking (using my messaging system is preferred in order for this to really work for you!)
  • Being a vendor/exhibitor/sponsor at live events (I teach this in my Tradeshow Networking Tool Kit)
  • Co-promoting with other complimentary business owners (there’s a whole bunch of things you can do for free with others to promote each other)
  • Phone calls (soooo important!)
  • Video marketing – create tips, a video channel and more
  • Blogging – good, consistent, keyword rich content drives traffic
  • Offer freebies/bonuses/gifts, etc. for promos for others, launches and more
  • Testimonial marketing
  • Publicity (missed opportunity for most small business owners)

Go to conferences and workshops and read more about new technology, marketing and industry strategies and lead-generating concepts.

8. Form strategic alliances.
Develop ways to co-promote with professionals in newsletters, articles, ezines, workshops, teleseminars, mailings and more.

9. Expand.
Open another location, target another market, franchise yourself or merge with another complementary business.

You’ve built a successful business, you have an established customer base and you’re well-known in your geographical area, your industry or both – so now what do you do to stay ahead of the pack? How do you take your business to the next level?
Here are five of the nine ways to grow your business. I will share the other four in my next blog post.
1. Delegate.
Stop doing things that don’t directly make you money.
Delegate them to an assistant or other professional so you can work on your business instead of in it at least 80 percent of the time.
2. Develop new products or services.
Develop monthly continuity programs and coaching or informational products such as e-books, home study programs, books, live workshops and teleseminars. Combine your current products or services into packages, or record presentations and sell them.
3. Increase repeat business.
Keep yourself on top of your customers’ minds by consistently sending out postcards; thank you, birthday or holiday gifts and cards; and monthly, bimonthly or weekly newsletters. Introduce promotions, discounts, affiliate programs and referral rewards.
4. Update your website.
Add monthly specials, discounts or promotions to attract attention. Make it so people have to sign up in order to receive anything so you can add them to your funnel. Add a shopping cart selling your informational products or services. Fine-tune your sales messages, keywords, headings, call to action and content so your site is appealing and makes people want to buy now and come back often.
5. Maximize online potential.
Find ways to be found online more often through article marketing, blogs, webinars, discussion boards, search engine optimization, pay-per-click ads and reciprocal links.

Feature Article – Let’s not forget about the print media. With the fast-moving and interactive internet let’s face it; many local and large print newspapers are having a hard time. Did you know that most reporters are LOOKING AND WAITING for good stories to come their way? They’re always on deadline though so they can’t always notice the good things that all entrepreneurs are doing – so guess what? You have to keep telling them, eventually something will spark their interest and especially if you’re giving them the ideas they want. So build your media contact list (locally or globally), find out what they want and how they want it and get and stay on their radar.

Write a Book – Do you have a story to tell? Always wanted to write a book? Great! It’s a great way to get publicity for you and your business. It isn’t that easy to write a book however like you might think and most likely you won’t make millions off the sales of your book – it’s good to do it for promotion, publicity and expert status however! I can help you figure out if this is the right option for you or if there is something easier to start with; this takes time and money.

Then of course you need the typical media information available such as a media kit or at least a one-sheet with your bio, topics, testimonials, picture, etc. You want to make sure it’s all easily available on your website so if your site isn’t up to ‘media par’ quite yet then contact me and we’ll get it there; I can work with your designer or bring in my own who can help but it’s all about how you position and promote yourself.

When you GET the publicity of course you will need to put it on your website and all over the internet again announcing it like in social networking sites, forums, blogs, etc. which also leads to higher expert status and added credibility so don’t forget the “marketing of the publicity”!

Don’t be wishy washy either, if you want something then don’t stop until you get it. People like persistency, not pushiness so don’t forget to keep going until you get at least 4-5 no’s but be nice and helpful about it and you will succeed!

Today I was at one of my monthly networking events like usual and I had the pleasure of listening to a speaker, this gal I really like because she’s got spunk and personality to the Nth degree.

She was talking about how to really get yourself out there, getting more publicity for yourself, how easy it really can be and what kind of amazing results you could really get from just a simple article, mention or interview.

She reminded me to not only finish my own PR push for my Oprah deal coming up of course, but to really put someone on this stuff. Meaning it’s time to hire someone to do some of this publicity pushing for me because we all know it isn’t happening on our own – right? Do you know what I mean?

I know you’re in the same boat. I bet nearly 98% of you out there reading this right now can’t remember the last time you got some good PR for yourself or your business?

I’ll bet that most of you don’t do it because you have no idea where to start or what to say or who to say it to, am I right?

Well you’re not alone; I’m telling you, there’s hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs just like you who keep thinking they need to do something to get some publicity too.

So, what can you do?

There’s actually a bunch of things; let’s get a list going and then if you can’t figure out how to accomplish some of them or want to know more you can contact me for more info and I’d be glad to either help you myself if I can or refer you to a PR consultant I know who can.

Here are 6 Easy Ways to get you started (Most are relatively F.R.E.E. but they all take TIME):

Article Marketing – Write articles and get them out on your ezine, blog, other people’s blogs, forums and social networking sites as well as article posting sites where the media and other businesses pick them up and use them. This ultimately gives you better search engine ranking, it helps build your list and it launches you into expert status right away. Television Interviews – Again, watch your local market first for shows that talk about things you could comment on and contact them to be their ‘expert’ on the show next time talking about “x,y,z”. You’d be surprised how many of them are constantly searching for interesting guests to have on their shows. Remember TV is a visual medium however to purely talking isn’t always going to get you the gig; try working in some sort of visual example or presentation too.

Teleclass/Podcast/Webinar Guest – Do a search or find people in your circle of influence already doing teleclasses, find businesses on social networking sites advertising teleclasses, go to teleclass marketing sites and find people doing teleclasses and then make a list of the ones that target your unique audience and topics and then send them a pitch! Make sure you offer an affiliate program and some kind of product or service that you can promote during the call so they see it as a win-win for them too. (If you aren’t sure what I meant by that last sentence, then it’s time for a 1on1 with me!)
