Today’s tip is in response to many questions I’ve received from my coaching clients and Live Big Mastermind clients that can be best handled with a direct marketing approach.

If you want to target prospects who you don’t know or those in industries that are different from your own, these tips are for you!

No one “likes” to cold call, I get that. But direct marketing to a prospect list will work if you are creative and memorable – you have to Stand Out!

First of all, don’t send an email to someone you don’t know or who doesn’t know you. This is a huge mistake that many people make. You email will likely not be opened; most people will delete it without opening it. I use a different approach because it takes multiple touches to attract the attention of the prospect, referral sources, someone who books speakers, etc. My marketing and sales experience began in offline marketing, so this is one area that I learned to do quite well.

Networking and speaking in my business are two of the most important and revenue producing activities that I do. BUT it’s because of my extensive follow up system and engagement before, during and after an event that makes it more profitable.

One thing I see with other speakers and entrepreneurs is they collect a TON of business cards at events or fill in forms, contact info, etc. however they RARELY do anything with them. (At least not enough with them.)

On this video I share a few tips on what YOU CAN DO with those new contacts and business cards that you collect so you know how to better maximize your time and investment in attending events.

Because there are some very important NO-NO’s that you want to be aware of and believe it or not, this doesn’t necessarily come natural to most people.

Now, one of the most important things to do with those cards is sort them.

  • By where you met them
  • Maybe by whether they are Hot, Warm or Cold leads OR if they’re JV (joint venture/referral) type sources
  • Whether they are Auto Adds or Not Auto Adds – meaning if you have their approval to add them to your database/email newsletter or not. Just because they actually give you their card does not mean they give you permission to email them, you must get a Verbal Opt In from them. (I explain all of this in depth in my Jumpstart Your Marketing® Follow Up System)

Then of course you have to do something with them – you want to follow up in 4 different ways with ALL contacts:

  • call,
  • email,
  • mail and
  • connect with them on social media too!

The other, second most important thing to do with those business cards, is to actually get them entered into your database (email marketing system or shopping cart) – DATA ENTRY is the top reason why most entrepreneurs do not do enough follow up because they don’t delegate this step. You think you’re going to get around to doing this yourself but let’s face it, most of you are not nor should you!

The top questions from entrepreneurs are “How do I find clients” and “How can I make more money?” 

So how do you do it?  How do you continuously attract and find new clients, build the business that excites you and make more money … all at the same time?

Entrepreneurs get distracted with so many ideas and options that you either do nothing or you do too many things at once but none of them very well. This presentation will teach you ONLY what you need to know NOW to start attracting clients and making money.

Do you need to jumpstart your business and finally get a plan in place that can allow you consistent leads, clients and cash flow? How about a plan for next year or plan for what you’re going to do to get your business up and running if you’re just starting?

Regardless if you’re just starting out in business or a seasoned professional…there are a few things you could do to Jumpstart where you are in your business right now and get more clients and make more money.

BUT…You may be making it really hard for people and prospects to BUY from you! (and you may not even know it)

Think about it this way…

  • Could there be people and prospects going to your website but leaving right away BECAUSE you aren’t giving them an opportunity to buy right away or better yet, get something for FREE to try you out?
  • Are you meeting people in person at events yet you’re not asking for the sale at all or you’re not even attempting to get them on your list to find out more?
  • Do you have a few (or many) social media profiles on the internet but no full contact information on your about pages or the contact fields aren’t filled out?
  • Do you have really great products or services on your website but you don’t have BUY NOW buttons or ways to take their credit card if they want to invest today (without calling you first or emailing you – because they won’t)?
  • Do you meet people at events that want to sign up with you or buy your products or services today but you tell them you’ll email them later to manage that somehow or will send them a link to your PayPal to pay?
  • Do you have the approval to email and follow up with hundreds or thousands of prospects and people but you’re not sending much out or even promoting your products and services when you do?

These are some of the biggest reasons that you may be making it HARD for people to buy or even get more information from you!

These are some of the best tips I teach my business coaching clients. We all need to do these things for cash flow, and consistent revenue generating, myself included. You are no different I’m sure so if you need that jumpstart….you’ve got to take a little initiative to:

  • Make your business more systematized
  • Get your mindset to shift so that you do think to do these things regularly or
  • Fix your website so it will really work for you instead of just sit there and more

Do you need to jumpstart your business in a hurry to finish off strong or reach your goals for this year? How about a plan for next year or plan for what you’re going to do to get your business up and running if you’re just starting?

Regardless if you’re just starting out in business or a seasoned professional…there are a few things you could do to Jumpstart where you are in your business right now and get a big CASH FLOW PUSH.

Don’t forget however, you always want to plan at the very minimum once a year.   Most business owners choose December or January to start planning but it really can be done anytime throughout the year and you can be checking in and tweaking your plan all year long as well.

For immediate cash flow, I recommend trying any or all of the following:

  • Send an email to your current clients, previous clients and everyone in your database (that you have permission to email)
      • Offer for a complimentary check up call or session. This can be a shortened version of what you normally get paid to do or it can be in the format of an audit of sorts – for their business, their health or some other part of whatever you help them with.
      • Offer a paid special package, deal or offer. This should be something that you don’t normally sell or at a price that’s much lower to get them to “try you out” or you can keep the regular price possibly and throw in a lot of valuable bonuses.
      • Offer a paid group webinar or teleseminar (or a series) that starts soon. I’m sure you can teach something or offer something or do open coaching or Q&A about some topic that you have expertise in, that they want to hear about. Keep this at a very low price so you can pack the calls or lines. Then from there, make sure you have a sell up to a higher priced offering since you will most likely have people who want to take it further.
      • Offer a live workshop if you have a lot of local contacts. This can be a couple hours or half or full day. I don’t recommend adding a longer event quickly and without a lot more marketing time but a shorter, less expensive workshop could be a good option. Then make sure you have a more expensive sell up offering to offer those people that day.
  • Call through your database to everyone you have a phone number for (this is why it’s so important to collect phone numbers too because email is definitely NOT the most reliable way to connect with your customers.) and offer the same sorts of things as listed above.
  • Get Networking! A week or two ago I wrote an article on the 6 Steps to Effective Networking, you can read it here if you missed it but networking and meeting and talking with people face to face is the fastest path to cash. BUT you do have to listen for what people need and then make an offer to help them with one of your programs, products or services. Don’t rely on follow up, try to make the sale or close an appointment that day. Follow up for sure, but definitely ask in person.
  • Follow up with the dozens or hundreds of people you already made a new connection with from a recent event or with your friends and followers on social media. There’s nothing like getting a phone call to strengthen that relationship whether it started online or off. Leave detailed messages so people call you back and then take it to a phone call to see if or how you can help each other.

These are some of the best tips I teach my business coaching clients. We all need to do these things for cash flow, myself included. You are no different I’m sure so if you need that jumpstart….you’ve got to take a little initiative.
